Outrageous Gousto

Mmmm I have been a Gousto customer for over a year now and have really enjoyed the meals. Unfortunately yesterday they left my box in the rain. I collected it and it has dyed my light grey jumper. I’ve tried all sorts to get it out and it won’t budge. I contacted them hoping for a discount off my next box. But they stated it was water soluble dye and they could only suggest having it dry cleaned. I am actually pretty pissed off. It wasn’t an expensive jumper but it is going to be binned. I wasn’t expecting much but even a token amount would have been a nice gesture. Now I am cross! Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Gousto?

Love Gousto and in their defence, the delivery company texts you and you can select an alternative delivery place. Mine was damp too but colour didn't come off.

Hello fresh isn't as good

NewOrder · 14/02/2024 15:40

I liked Hello Fresh BUT their asian inspired meals are far too sweet, alot of it can get samey and if you forget you preorder the menu, the default ones are always the crappest.

Crunchymum · 14/02/2024 15:44

I'm still reeling from the washable paints the kids used on that 40c day in July 2022 whilst at school.

Obviously too hot to wear an apron so not the schools fault but I tried everything to get the paint out. I mean everything

Washable paint, my arse.

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 16:25

@Crunchymum I ordered washable paints for my class one year. After painting the sea, I stressed at the blue paint on white shirts. No parents ever mentioned it but I could see the blue hue on shirt sleeves for ages!

Hello fresh is shit compared to Gusto, it's all mince unless you pay extra.

Weightwatcher2 · 14/02/2024 16:52

Simply Cook is great if you like shopping for your own fresh ingredients. Saves a tonne not having to buy various spices and herbs which I find inevitably waste when it comes to the lesser used ones.

No idea how you manage that... pick a better week- mine this week are mainly chicken based because I hate mince and have not paid extra

Korean style gochujang chicken Tacos
Honey mustard chicken thighs
Red wine chicken and mushroom stew
Crispy skinned Sea bass
Chicken in peppercorn sauce

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 17:37

My HelloFresh trial order has no mince, plus I have fruit and cheese board added.

I’ve used both HF and Gousto weekly for years.

Personally I found the quality and taste of the meals better with HF. But the choice and ease of meals much better with Gousto.

I still order from both but mainly from HF. I have sometimes been sent slightly questionable veg though.

Dottina · 14/02/2024 17:51

Agree with @Anjea! Hello Fresh is all defrosted mince. It's boak. Not a fan at all

Mynewnameis · 14/02/2024 17:55

Hate vacuum packed mince.

My main reason for leaving hello fresh was a week where I got the default recipes. Mostly vegetarian so I assume the cheapest!

BreakfastAtMimis · 14/02/2024 14:52

Have you actually checked what colour Hello Fresh's boxes are? I don't want to see you back on here complaining about a bright green jumper in a week's time.

🤣

Gousto is far superior to Hello F

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 18:16

Sounds like HF isn’t getting rave reviews here. I am still going to do the trial and see, although I do like Cook too.

Definitely worth a try and for a few weeks it's okay but long term too samey samey

Hoisin, teriyaki, mince, repeat.

It's cheaper than Guosto though so that's a bonus.

I'd be fucked off about my jumper too btw.

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 18:28

@Anjea Thank you for my jumper condolences 😆although I have managed to get over excited and spend over £100 on 6 meals and extras!

Dump Gousto and don't bother with the others. I'm sure they are much more expensive than doing a supermarket online shop.

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 18:40

I like the non thinking aspect and am not bothered about the cost @Orangestheonlyfruit

Hello Fresh or Mindful Chef. I really like both. The latter generally seemed less processed, more healthy and it’s diary free I think. Both are very nice but if you’re not careful with Hello Fresh you can choose some meals that will pack on pounds. I actually prefer both to Gousto. I’m vegetarian though.

MCOut · 14/02/2024 19:15

Actually why not try both? I used to have all three on the go and skipped weeks depending on the menu I preferred each week. I still retained the discounts when skipping.

Curtainpoles · 14/02/2024 19:26

I have read the thread and not seen anyone recommend Cherrypick yet.
It's slightly different in that you go through and select the recipes you want and it adds the ingredients to a Sainsbury's or Asda shop for you. You can also then add other groceries / household items etc to your shop. You can pick either delivery or click and collect. A feature I really like is being able to choose how many portions you want to make and it will automatically adjust your ingredients list.
I really like it, it's simple to use and means I can get all my fruit, milk etc in the same shop.
(I promise I don't work for them!)

ForeverTeach · 14/02/2024 19:28

That sounds interesting actually @Curtainpoles I might take a look, thank you.

I did look (quickly) at Mindful chef but it appeared to have a very limited selection @MCOut.

Hello Fresh is utter shite compared to Gousto

FETFirstTimer · 14/02/2024 20:00

I love Green Chef and I think it’s the premium arm of Hello Fresh.

Although, I don’t think Gousto are at fault either. Sorry 😬

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 14/02/2024 21:06

In my experience Hello Fresh, Goodbye Fresh
