Did you get/want anything 'special' for your 30th birthday?

I'll be turning 30 in 3 weeks
DP has asked me what I want and so has my mum.

Mum has asked if I'd like a piece of jewellery as that's been what I've had before for big birthdays (16/18/21) but I don't wear jewellery anymore since having ds so I'm not sure. I hate money being wasted

Any inspiration from your 30th gifts?

I got a Hermès watch from DH. I'm 37 now and I still wear it and love it.

Also a very fun trip to Vegas to celebrate. I think of it fondly now I have 2 kids under 5 😂

I asked for a big bottle of a Chanel Les Exclusifs perfume I love but refuse to pay £350 for!

Hoglet70 · 14/02/2024 07:41

I don't remember celebrating 30 at all. It isn't a significant birthday. I'm sure I wouldn't have said no to a big present though if someone had offered!

I had a 2 month old baby so could do a fun trip like had for DH so I got a puppy. We already had 1 dog and had talked about a second. She’s nearly 9 now and the best present ever.

A relaxing holiday.

Sallysoup · 14/02/2024 07:49

I got tickets to a show that rarely comes to the UK, went with my mum and sisters which was lovely.

DP paid for a trip to Europe for us too.

Vouchers for an airline or travel company so you can plan a nice trip? Or a restaurant you wouldn't normally pay for?

DrunkenElephant · 14/02/2024 07:54

I was very heavily pregnant on my 30th so we didn’t do much.

DH gave me an eternity ring and my parents bought me a watch. I don’t wear either now but I’ll keep them forever.

What do you like? Any hobbies?

CJ4713 · 14/02/2024 07:57

I went to Prague.

Could you spent a few nights away, spa experience, nice restaurant?

ViciousCurrentBun · 14/02/2024 08:13

I was single at the time, I went after work to the pub opposite my dept and then for a curry, there was about 20 of us. I also got 30 cards that year which seemed significant and was the most I have ever received. I have a photo taken at the table, this was pre camera phone so photos on nights out were rare, unbeknown to me my future DH is sat one person away from me at the table and we started dating a couple of months after.

It’s always about the company you keep op, whether it’s a big party or just snuggling up on the sofa with someone you love. Actual items to me mean a lot less, though I do like something thoughtful. DH bought me a Swiss Army knife one year, a really good one and as an avid hiker I was delighted. The best surprise birthday gift I ever had was a ticket to America to visit my brother for my 40th.

Klingfilm · 14/02/2024 08:16

It was lockdown so I asked for a Fortnum and Mason hamper. Gave me a whole hour of unwrapping entertainment! And the food made the next couple of weeks more fun.

Will be making up for the non even of a day with a large party on my 35th I think!

ifonly4 · 14/02/2024 08:19

Sounds silly, but somewhere along the lines I'd told my boyfriend (now DH) that I wanted to go to a tea dance at the Waldorf Hotel in London. He arranged for us to do it on my birthday and bought me a dress for the occasion. I can still remember the day.

FranksInvisibleLlama · 14/02/2024 08:22

I am now in my 40s and don’t remember what I got for my 30th birthday. I had a 6 month old so probably nothing big. I remember going out for dinner with DH and leaving DC with my in-laws for the first time.

TheMoonstone · 14/02/2024 08:26

I saved up and got my exH a trip abroad for four days to see his favourite musician in the world, this at a time when we had very young children and it meant I was completely on my own with them…he got me absolutely nothing and didn’t even tell the children it was my birthday to give me a cuddle. It woke me up to how unequal our relationship was and whilst it limped along for a while longer it didn’t survive and the children (now adult) don’t see him.

What I would have liked is a good watch or ring.

Beezknees · 14/02/2024 08:26

I got tickets to a festival I'd been wanting to go to.

barkymcbark · 14/02/2024 08:27

I don't class 30 as a significant birthday, but I do 40 & 50 so no idea why 30 isn't. Bit like any zero birthday it's nice to get spoilt so make the most of it. Doesn't have to be expensive, just thoughtful

WhichIsItWendy · 14/02/2024 08:28

My husband took me on a road trip in Scotland. We were childfree and it was amazing and definitely a holiday I'll remember forever. I can't remember what I got in terms of gifts for any of my birthdays! (Late 30s now).

toomuchicecream · 14/02/2024 08:40

I had to do the weekly food shop that day so I treated myself and did it in Waitrose rather than Asda…

OrangeSlices998 · 14/02/2024 08:47

I got engaged! Also got a watch

New2024 · 14/02/2024 08:53

We were childfree at the time, it was before we were even trying. I worked in a large university department and had lots of lovely friends there. We organised a long lunch with picnic as it is a summer birthday. Simple and memorable event, one of my friends from this period sent me copies of photos she took that day and enclosed them in my 60th birthday card.

The DH bought me jewellery and we had a nice meal out. I think we saw 30 as a significant birthday as I recall I bought him an expensive tie on his 30th. It’s memorable because we were on holiday with his parents and had booked a restaurant. He came down wearing the tie and his father hadn’t bought a tie with him, so he had to take it off 😂

Borracha · 14/02/2024 08:53

DH bought me an Omega watch I had been coveting for years. I also had a tiny newborn baby (my first), so the day felt really special although I don't think we went further than the local cafe for lunch.

BananaHammock23 · 14/02/2024 08:54

DP got me a beautiful pink sapphire and diamond ring for my 30th - I love it

cariadlet · 14/02/2024 08:58

I got drunk.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 14/02/2024 09:10

What about a nice weekend away? Uk or Europe?

Or a nice handbag?

Esgaroth · 14/02/2024 09:11

My brother got me a Toblerone.

I think DH got me something better but I'll always remember that Toblerone. Hilarious choice.

Favouritefruits · 14/02/2024 09:26

My DH bought me an exercise bike for my 30th I used it for about two weeks then it became a place to hang clothes eventually we gave it away as it was just taking up space 😂
