Did you get/want anything 'special' for your 30th birthday?

I'll be turning 30 in 3 weeks
DP has asked me what I want and so has my mum.

Mum has asked if I'd like a piece of jewellery as that's been what I've had before for big birthdays (16/18/21) but I don't wear jewellery anymore since having ds so I'm not sure. I hate money being wasted

Any inspiration from your 30th gifts?

Always a memory creation now for me, rather than things.

Tickets to Queens or Wimbledon. A night away. Trip to a UK vineyard or short yoga retreat.

Although I'm pretty sure my last significant birthday was spent at London aquarium because we had two little people with us at that time Wink

I don't remember what presents I got for my 30th.

I do remember that I got pregnant the weekend of my birthday Grin

WhereIsMyLight · 14/02/2024 09:40

I asked for money towards a big holiday. Which then got cancelled due to covid. So we got new carpets and a new boiler.

My 30th birthday coincided with our house move, so the standing joke is I got a house for that birthday. Other than that, a coffee machine I'd had my eyes on for a while - 7 years later both the machine and the house are still going strong (and the money saved by making my own coffee goes back into the house...)

I’ve never done or received anything special for any birthday. DP always gets me a present though but prior to that I bought my own (and still do get myself something just incase). My advice would be if you want something specific or want a trip away then buy/organise it yourself. It saves any feelings of disappointment.

I got married on my 30th birthday. Best day ever!

Libertysparkle · 14/02/2024 11:44

I went to New York. Then got married the same year.
As I was getting married that year my parents bought my tiara as my 30th present.

I don't really remember what else I got.

I too didn't want jewelery as already had that for 18th and 21st.

Maybe think about somewhere you want to go or do? Somewhere you could go with your Mum or partner.

I got a Citizen solar powered watch, and a Magimix. I didn't want the full works Magimix but my DM got me that anyway.

20 years later I still wear the watch and use the Magimix :)

:D I was in hospital being told I was being induced on my 30th! Persuaded them to delay for a bit and discharge me.

Went home and had a mini colin caterpillar cake (had gestational diabetes). Rock and roll!

Attempts to re-celebrate ended in disaster due to lockdowns. Have just accepted it and will celebrate my 40th!

dontforgetme · 14/02/2024 12:58

I did get jewellery which I asked for. Flowers and champagne. My 30th was on a Friday, me oh and the kids went out for a meal. The Saturday the kids stayed at nanny's and I got absolutely twatted. Was a great weekend!

PossumintheHouse · 14/02/2024 13:17

I got engaged on my 30th, so it was a pretty decent day all round. It also involved a posh meal and a spa weekend.

scaredofff · 14/02/2024 15:11

We are going away to a cabin the day before my birthday so I wake up there, then spend another 3 days before driving home
DP was due to be out the country for work and wasn't going to be able to come so I booked it with birthday money from my gran and was going to go just with ds but now he's rearranged his schedule and moved some things around so he will be there with me.
It's actually my favourite place so being with the two of them will make my day more than any presents. But he is still insisting I've to choose a gift...

Aww @TheMoonstone!!! I got really sad reading that, I'm sorry. I hope all of the birthdays without him you sit up and realise you're worth so much and life is happier without that selfish man

DH took me to The Ritz - the one and only time I’ve been!

For DSis’ 30th I bought her 30 presents and the 30th present she opened was a Mulberry handbag. 10 years ago and she still remembers it fondly.

Tarkan · 14/02/2024 15:30

I had a big party at home and had a great time. I don't really remember any gifts (other than a lovely basket of wool and wine from some friends, I still have the basket over 12 years later).

I was still with my ex at the time and he wasn't a great one for gifts (unless it was for other women). My best (belated) 30th birthday gift was splitting up with him just over a year later and meeting my now-DH a few months after that. Grin

scaredofff · 14/02/2024 15:36

I would have liked mum and her dp to come on the little holiday too, but she's having chemo at the moment and is due treatment 3 days before my birthday so she will be too sick to come. That's what I really wanted tbh

It sounds so nice to think about waking up to a perfect cup of tea in bed and a big bunch of flowers (not from supermarket). I think I'll push dp towards this. I'd hate him to pick me a bit of jewellery or something just for the sake of gift giving and me not like it

I got a 1968 British Racing Green MGB Roadster. It was fab 😁

WhollyGlorious · 14/02/2024 15:42

We bought a puppy.

But I turned 30 in April 2020, so it was a weird time.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/02/2024 15:44

My best friend bought me a diamond ring I'd had my eye on for a while.

FlibbedyFlobbedyFloo · 14/02/2024 15:51

I went on a cruise with my sister and some friends and treated us to a ship to airport transfer by limo, with champagne, etc

FakeSucculent · 14/02/2024 15:54

My mum took me out for a nice lunch.

The only presents I remember was a packet of jaffa cakes and a £6 bottle of wine from (now ex) partner.

I hate jaffa cakes and I don't drink alcohol.

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2024 15:57

i don’t remember much in the way of physical presents but I had a party and then the following weekend dh took me to Florence for 5 days and the week after that I had a girly holiday to Lisbon - lovely! The memories are still strong, presents/things long forgotten.

bananamum13 · 14/02/2024 16:00

I got married shortly after my 30th so I got some beautiful diamond earrings to wear on the day. Other than that, we got money which we put towards buying our 1st house together.

Loubelle70 · 14/02/2024 16:00

I didn't get anything.
If i did want anything itd be some perfume as 30 isn't a big birthday

seaandsandals · 14/02/2024 16:05

My mum bought a family holiday abroad for my 30th and 40th birthday which was amazing as we'd only had staycation holidays in between.
Dh bought me an Apple Watch and some jewellery for my 40th but can't remember what he bought for my 30th.
