Rachel Reeves called it that in her press conference

Yeeeessss! That’ll be trotted out at every opportunity.

HS2 will run slower than existing trains by the time it gets to the North.

https://x.com/Samfr/status/1757785613548257454?s=20

The Public Accounts Committee report on HS2 is unreal.

"Crucially, the Department does not yet understand how HS2 will operate as a functioning railway following recent changes."

This is something that is costing us £67 billion even with the cancellation.

Sam Freedman's follow up tweet has made me sad & angry -

"We could have rebuilt every school that needs it in the country for that money. And had plenty left over for other infrastructure projects.

Just completely pissed away. "

Investment & improved infrastructure is exactly what we need.
We've ended up with a poorer service and more debt.
What a bloody waste.

I thought that under its editorial guidelines the BBC is committed to achieving due impartiality in all its output? Section 4 I think.
Maybe they have not quite got there yet?

IClaudine · 15/02/2024 14:44

Does anyone know if Labour has published/set out yet how it is going to fund its five missions? Someone has asked on another thread and I don't know the answer.

Notonthestairs · 15/02/2024 14:57

I doubt that they've published their costs breakdown as yet - presumably to protect ideas, hold off from the r/w media and adapt the figures depending on what they think they are likely to inherit (if they win).
Obviously they can't do that forever!
The sooner the election is called, the sooner we can see them.

DuncinToffee · 15/02/2024 15:01

I don't think Labour can do that without knowing the budget

Thanks! I thought maybe I was being thick not knowing.

DuncinToffee · 15/02/2024 15:13

I don't know exactly how it works either, just know that Labour is expected to account for every penny unlike the Tories.

Interesting - I like how the Netherlands manage the process.

DuncinToffee · 15/02/2024 16:33

The whataboutery on the recession thread is strong

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 15/02/2024 16:44

Let me guess - Germany? It's only a techno/shallow recession, blame benefits, blame immigrants, Labour there's no money letter, Rwanda is a deterrent despite no evidence of this, stick with the plan, etc, etc.

Never mind pissing away 100's of millions on Rwanda, poorly concieved transport plans, friends and family contracts, tax cuts and BREXIT.

Notonthestairs · 15/02/2024 16:45

Technical not techno Grin

Highly predictable.
Never take any responsibility.
Sunlit uplands just a whopping tax cut away.

BIossomtoes · 15/02/2024 16:54

Apparently processing asylum applications in a timely manner will just increase numbers. No, I can’t see the logic either. 🤷‍♀️

Well deliberately slowing the process has proved fabulously successful in reducing numbers.

Be a bit careful, we know there are lurkers who would love to get this thread pulled on TAAT grounds.

Interesting.
Legatum have their fingers in many pies.

And how lovely to earn £20k for 36 days work pa. Chicken feed to this lot though I suppose.

That is disgusting

MPs are quitting because of attacks - online and in person. They are facing real dangers and then this.

This just shows the Tories for the divisive party they are. No moral compass
