Was this person rude?

I made an offer for an item on vinted. I first saw it listen a month ago for 100, I made an offer for 70. They rejected and said they've just rejected an offer of 85. I said sure okay.

Recently i noticed they've put it down to 90. So I remade my offer of 70. They came back and told me they'd rather cut it up and use it to wash their car than sell it to me for that price. I was taken aback, not what I was expecting at all. Was this person rude?

HTH is also rude but you've said it on here! I think the seller's reply was kind of funny..

Offering the same twice is a bit irritating, I think I'd just read the response kind of tongue in cheek really. It's all anonymous, maybe they were having a bad day and you were one of many annoying things in it. You know they don't want to sell it for £70, they've said no, so asking again is kind of annoying.

I wouldn't have said what they said but I might have thought something similar!

My boss said HTH the other day to me in an email. After they had written me a long and helpful reply to an email. Anyway, it's very different than saying I'd rather cut it up and wash my car with it than sell it to you.

On mumsnet it's the height of cutting sarcasm Grin

Go back in with an offer of £71.50, you never know.. 😬

Idontjetwashthefucker · 12/02/2024 14:17

I offered £20 less than a listed price on Vinted as it had been up for 6 months, couldn't see any reductions in that time. Seller accepted straightaway.

You don't ask you don't get, and yes I think the seller was rude

Zebedee999 · 12/02/2024 14:23

OP you did nothing wrong and yes they were rude.

People selling things will of course always want as much as possible. But sometimes reality bites and they have to reduce the price. If they reduce the price again and time passes by they may become grateful for your offer.

They can ignore you without being sarcastic. At least you are a backstop for them if they get no better offers.

I would love to but shes blocked me. She said she doesn't need my money. I also don't want my vinted account shit down!

I think the seller was rude but I sell a lot on eBay and get so bored of people trying to chisel me on prices. I sell designer clothing in perfect condition , usually for around 25-30% of its retail price and get so fed up with the endless messages of ridiculous offers.

Some people definitely take Vinted too seriously!!

Would you like to share your store? I'd love to see! Also, it's eBay. It's like what they say about cars, the second the wheels hit the tarmac their worth plummets. I used to buy a lot of full-price expensive items until I realised this. I sold a lot of stuff for +70% off the price I paid. Now I only buy resale.

It's funny. A bit rude but you were rude to offer 70 twice, 75 would've been better. But it doesn't matter, she's a stranger, who cares?

SwirlyShirly · 12/02/2024 14:30

Ahaaa I said something similar to someone making a series of cheeky offers on fb marketplace last week. "I would literally rather burn the lot than sell it to you for that"

If that makes me rude, so be it 😂

OP wasn't rude, she offered what she thought the coat was worth, the seller didn't have to accept it but they also didn't have to be rude about it.

LaCouleurDeMonCiel · 12/02/2024 14:38

Offering the same low amount twice is rude. Simple as that.

TheThingIsYeah · 12/02/2024 14:43

I don't get the pile on, OP.

Item must be overpriced if it's been reduced from £100 to £90 and still not sold. I reckon also the supposed offer of £85 was just bollocks to see if you'd up your one.

Nothing wrong in offering £70 again a month down the line, although personally I'd have gone in with £75.

Eightfour · 12/02/2024 15:02

@TheThingIsYeah - The pile on happens on a lot of threads. People like to join the mob.

TheIceQween · 12/02/2024 15:09

I mean, I don’t think you were rude offering 70? Vinted doesn’t let you place an offer if its
a certain % below the asking anyway (just googled this and you can offer up to 40% lower than what the seller is asking) If they didn’t want any offers on what they were selling, they probably shouldn’t have advertised it on Vinted….

KreedKafer · 12/02/2024 15:51

I think you were rude to make the same offer that had already been rejected.

Fetaa · 12/02/2024 15:54

They were rude! It’s fine to offer low and have the offer rejected.

Neroli1970 · 12/02/2024 16:55

I can't believe you've had replies saying that you were the one being rude

I sell on vinted all the time. If you don't like getting offers, sell somewhere that doesn't allow it. It's a click of a button to decline someone, it wastes all of 1 second.

The seller was very rude and should be reported. They also sound like they've over priced their item. People forget the additional cost of p&p, buyer protection fee and the inability to return if it doesn't fit. All that needs to be taken into account when selling.

You've done nothing wrong OP, I hope it doesn't put you off using vinted.

Getthethrowonthesofa · 12/02/2024 16:57

Goodness if you’re that desperate for the coat pay for it. She rejected your offer once, dropping to 90 doesn’t mean she wants 70. If she did she’d have messaged you

OP wanted to pay for it, £70 as that's what she felt it was worth. There's absolutely nothing wrong with making a lower offer, the seller was rude

Nothing wrong with making it once, but the op needs to take no for an answer and either up,it or move on.

How is haggling on a platform designed for it desperate? Am I desperate to want the best price possible?

It's good to experience posters like you, it's helping me understand the seller. You can't be blamed I guess, it must be how your brain is wired.

Yes- I am being rude to you after you were rude to me. I just pity the people in your lives honestly. I can't imagine dealing with this level of passive aggressiveness constantly.

Then what’s your thread about? Rude or not, keep making the same offer and don’t get offended if they tell you to do one and block you.
