Was this person rude?

I made an offer for an item on vinted. I first saw it listen a month ago for 100, I made an offer for 70. They rejected and said they've just rejected an offer of 85. I said sure okay.

Recently i noticed they've put it down to 90. So I remade my offer of 70. They came back and told me they'd rather cut it up and use it to wash their car than sell it to me for that price. I was taken aback, not what I was expecting at all. Was this person rude?

I think some of the posters on here must not use Vinted. I think she was very rude. I have said to people before in response to an offer that I would like £X or I will just keep the item or something like that. The bit about cutting it up to wash the car is so unnecessary.

Although I am also guilty of just blocking people I just can’t be bothered to deal with, ones who are just taking up my time, so I do understand why she blocked you.

rainydaysandwednesdays · 12/02/2024 12:32

Hahaha I think this all the time when people come in with very cheeky offers.

I'd rather drive the item down to the tip.

Hereforthedramaz · 12/02/2024 12:34

I certainly wouldn't have snapped at you but tbh I'd be pissed off with a £70 offer on a £100 and then to do it again would annoy me too.

Op you keep saying it's haggling, an initial 30% reduction offer was a cheeky ( but not insane) offer but to keep offering the same isn't really haggling. There is an assumption of increasing/ decreasing offers with haggling.

The seller had come down by £10, personally I would have slightly increased my second offer. Or walked away if that wasn't possible.

Continually offering the same amount annoys people, especially if the other person is coming down in their offers

blooblom · 12/02/2024 12:38

Stupid offers, or people questioning why you naught want more than £1.50 for something, on Vinted make the whole experience unpleasant.

SherrieElmer · 12/02/2024 12:39

Of course he was bloody rude. No doubt about it.
But you need to grow a ticker skin, to be honest.

Wednesday6 · 12/02/2024 12:41

They were rude, Vinted is set up to accept offers within a %, they agreed to it when they listed an item.

Wednesday6 · 12/02/2024 12:42

Also if they can't sell it's absolutely reasonable you suggested you are still interested but will offer only £70

I wasn't really upset, just taken aback. Then I did wonder if I was in the wrong. I cant see how, its vinted...

I think this too but probably wouldn't say it unless someone really pissed me off.

I do find very cheeky offers annoying.

Yes! I didn't think of that. The website limits what you can offer, so she must have set her margins to go down to 70.

Mazuslongtoenail · 12/02/2024 12:48

Meh. You made an offer, they refused and it’s now still unsold. They may have been regretting not accepting it originally given they presumably no longer want the item and yet they still haven’t sold it. I see it that you gave them a second chance.

It’s a coat FFS, no need to get emotional about it. Just accept or decline the offer. I hope they never try free cycle, they’d be very upset by some of the responses you get on there.

Veronicaisaflower · 12/02/2024 12:58

Maybe Vinted isn't for you if you are easily upset?

LizFromMotherland · 12/02/2024 12:58

You are funny OP!

They came back and told me they'd rather cut it up and use it to wash their car than sell it to me for that price.

And you have to ask if that was rude? 🤣🤣

Moier · 12/02/2024 13:01

Yes they were very rude..
NOT you.. that is how vinted works. You offer a lower price.. if you go too low..vinted automatically tells you its too low and won't be accepted.. no need for the seller to be like that.
I've offered lower and 99% it's been accepted.. had the odd one saying. " Do you know how much it is brand new etc"..
No need for nasty comments all they need to do is decline.
I'm with you on this one OP.

Eightfour · 12/02/2024 13:03

I would suggest that the coat is not worth anywhere near £100 if they have reduced it to £90 and it’s still not sold. Bet they are kicking themselves for not accepting £85 now. Unrealistic sellers are as much of a problem as chancer buyers.

boonr · 12/02/2024 13:08

Yes, she was rude!

I don't know why everyone on here is pretending they wouldn't have an issue with being spoken to like this.

So what if it's a cheeky offer. You're allowed to offer and she can just politely decline. I have accepted offers a lot lower than I would have liked to because people just don't like spending a lot on Vinted.

Basically, yes, she's a cow.

AnImaginaryCat · 12/02/2024 13:14

Seems a bit daft preferring to cut it up than get some money it.

She's evidently having a big old tantrum over the fact it's not sold for what she wanted so has gone for the mature option of cutting her nose off to spite her face.

SheerLucks · 12/02/2024 13:15

They were very rude!!

But your offer was also darn cheeky.

I think you're confused. I came to ask if people thought I was in the wrong, not that I was upset.

You offered £75 they said no.

They reduced selling price.

You went back and offered £70.

You have annoyed them. As a seller I’d be annoyed too, I wouldn’t be annoyed if you re offered the £75.

The seller has decided you are someone who wants something good for nothing.

They have told you no to £75 so why would you think they’d accept £70. Strange.

I never offered 75. I offered 70 both times, with nearly a month between them. Sometimes people want to get rid of stuff, so they go back and accept offers they have said no to. I've done that, and I've had sellers re-offer amounts they said said no to.

I don't want something for nothing, I want it for 70 pounds- which is what I think its worth. HTH x

IncompleteSenten · 12/02/2024 14:00

Crikey yes they were very blunt I'd say that level of bluntness is rude yes, but they'd already said no so it was also rude of you to make the same offer again. They said no and that should have been the end of it. Only being willing to pay what you think something is worth does not compel the other person to sell it to you at that price.

User19798 · 12/02/2024 14:04

Low ball offers infuriate some people which is weird, they should just say no. If you're so fragile and touchy and odd about money you shouldn't be selling stuff on the internet.

Frizzyleaf · 12/02/2024 14:06

They were really rude!

OK so it’s less than they want but if someone makes a polite and sincere offer then even if it’s low you just say thanks but no thanks.

Equally we have no idea whether the OP’s offer is too low, or the seller’s price is too high a bit of both!

Eightfour · 12/02/2024 14:06

It’s not rude to make the same offer twice a month apart. The seller may want £90 but the market is telling them it’s not worth that. A month later some people may have come to this realisation.
