What do you think of when you hear the name Ralph? Was chatting with my partner today and i said that women of around my age (50) would probably answer with the name of a book. Just wondered if i was right!

I don't know which book the OP is referring to either.

happypillsareworking · 10/02/2024 22:04

I've forgotten the name of the book but was written by Judy Blume. I'm 50 and my mum got cross when she found I had read it!!!

Skintdancemum · 10/02/2024 22:04

Judy Blume!

KillingMeDeftIy · 10/02/2024 22:04

Pronounced as it’s spelled, the penis from Forever.

Pronounced Rafe, then Fiennes.

Skintdancemum · 10/02/2024 22:05

Forever!

Saw the title and knew exactly what it was about!

TaxiVan · 10/02/2024 22:05

Wiggum.
Clearly uncultured.

Lord of the Flies for me

Although I'm about to turn 40 rather than 50

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 10/02/2024 22:11

I think of Judy Blume 'Forever' too. The guy calls his penis Ralph. I have no recollection of the characters names but I'll never forget Ralph!!

Pashazade · 10/02/2024 22:12

Lol I'd forgotten that, probably read it a little early! One of the girls in primary school came back from America with a copy and we all read it age eleven!

twobluechickens · 10/02/2024 22:16

Katherine and Michael!

I read it early in secondary school (passed on by a friend) and my mum was furious. I don't know why - I actually think it's something every young person should be able to read, it taught me about respect in relationships.

Hurukan · 10/02/2024 22:25

Yip was just coming on to ask you to re think naming your child this in case that book makes a come back.

mimblewimble · 10/02/2024 22:28

Forever! I'm almost a decade younger than you, vividly remember one girl at school in about year 6 had a copy and we all took it in turns to secretly borrow it.

LauderSyme · 10/02/2024 22:33

I'm around OP's age and I've read Judy Blume but I don't remember Ralph the penis at all!

When I hear Ralph I think of Billy Connolly's sketch about chucking up, referencing Ralph and Huey 😄

LizFromMotherland · 10/02/2024 22:36

I'm 54 and think of Ralph Malph from the TV show 'Happy Days'.
