Does my child have red hair?

When my newborn was born 10 weeks ago they had dark hair, striking blue eyes and fair eyelashes/eyebrows. His skin is also fair.

His hair has fallen out in the usual pattern and I think it is red of some description but other people don't agree.

Last week a friend said it looked red when I held my baby up in the light at a certain angle. Maybe auburn colour.

It doesn't matter if the hair is red, I'm curious as I always felt my baby was going to be a red head lol

For reference my mum is a bit ginger, as she's Irish. My siblings and all the other grandchild have either blonde hair or boring brown lol. I've got light brown and lots of blonde.

I think if he was going to be brunette his eyebrows and eyelashes would be dark already.

Your babies hair looks like both my boys and they both went blonde as they got older- one a darker blonde and one platinum.
My daughter was born with lots of almost black hair, it never fell out but gradually changed to a warm strawberry blonde and has stayed that colour since.

Doesn't look like it to me. Ds2 is completely ginger, but his hair at birth was darker.

Crazy how the hair changes so much!

My dd had a full head of thick black hair when she was born. By the time she was 1 it was so white/blonde it was transparent and in photos she looked nearly bald 😂 /she's still blonde now 20 years later,

My ds had white blond hair until he was 6, he now 18 years later thick brown hair.

so no you can't tell, it could change completely.

Both mine had a gingery tinge in some lights, by 6 months they were both completely white blonde x

DS1 and DS3 were both born with dark hair that fell out and came back blond.

DS2 was bald as a coot at birth, his hair came through ginger. It was so cute. Not a surprise as there's lots of red hair in both sides of the family. However, it got darker as he grew up. It's now very dark brown, but still has copper highlights and his beard is reddish.

Blond DS3 is now dark haired. DS1 was light blond until his early teens, but is now light brown/dirty blond. A bit like me, only I highlight mine

Gingery babies tend to be very obviously red haired

My son has incredibly strong red hair but at birth he was white blonde and the red began to show about 6 months in so I think watch and wait!

my red head was red from birth, what hair he did have, he was fair and brown eyed but very much red haired was a bit of a shock (good) as his dad and I are very dark but his granny (dads mum) and all her siblings are redheads. My sons is a different shade to theirs but he’s now 23 and a lovely v handsome lad my other 3 are light brown or dark brown, youngest is curly.
