I don’t like David Tennant, can’t put my finger on why he just seems a bit creepy. I’m sure he’s not I just don’t like him.

Of course it's human nature to have likes and dislikes, but we will have to agree to disagree.

People are listing all sorts of reasons, some spurious, some personal. It's not an idle list of people you might have an aversion too, it's pointed and personal.

I also don't agree that just because the press are cruel it means we should be. That's another defence offered since I posted.

I probably, actually certainly, would have joined in once upon a time but as I've got older, I've less stomach for it.

But likes&dislikes are personal. Personal preferences are completely different to the press, the press are cruel and vile, but someone saying on an anonymous internet forum that they don't like someone because xyz reason, is not the same as the press hounding that same person and ruining their reputation and career.
Also I am no spring chicken myself, so I don't know what that has to do with anything, older peoples opinions are just as valid as younger peoples and age is no barrier to speaking your mind.

Fiona Bruce seems like she would be unpleasant in real life. She has a very cold vibe to her. And as someone else said, comes off as very smug and superior. Which is why she can’t be on my list as I know why I don’t like her ☺️

I’ve met her (Antiques Roadshow). She was lovely to everyone, walked around and chatted and generally pleasant and charming. The men were dropping in her wake.

SinnerBoy · 10/02/2024 19:04

I don't like Neil Oliver, either. I used to years ago, when he was on Coast, but I've gone right off him.

You're all reminding me of all the people I've blocked out because they make my teeth itch.

Mel C, makes me stabby. She gives me the rage. I just can't

Kira knightly I don't get why she's popular. She's not for me but I think she's probably a nice person..

Nick Knowles, there's something off with him. He seems a bit controlling and loves himself.

Russell Howard isn't funny

Keith Lemon is a character but the person who does him is apparently very shy and nice.

David Walliams, we don't see the real him again he plays a character for the public.

I like Claudia Winkleman and a few others mentioned but most of you aren't wrong!

David Walliams, we don't see the real him again he plays a character for the public.

From what I've heard the real him is worse!

🤮 Blourgh

Of course I’m sure she wouldn’t be unpleasant in view of the public at work on tv!

Lenny Henry
Jim Carey in films.

We squeezed past each other in a narrow corridor on the way to the loo, no cameras or public about and she was just the same.

HelloStarlings · 10/02/2024 19:15

I forgot Claudia Winkleman. She just OVER-plays the ditzy clueless floozie act when in reality she’s an attractive oxbridge graduate (and knows it).

MamaGarl85 · 10/02/2024 19:20

Tom Hanks... absolutely no idea why...just seems too good to be true!

Davinia McCall annoys the hell out of me

Ben Affleck comes across really horrible in his relationship with Jennifer Lopez.
Also the one that goes out with Nicole Scherzinger who was a rugby player. He’s horrible and moody as well and the way they treat their beautiful partners is very disrespectful.
I don’t see the appeal in Elton John at all. I don’t like his voice and he is quite weird. I appreciate he is generous though.
David Williams - always was creepy.
Stephen Fry - clever and witty but also creepy.
Miriam Margolyes - very silly.
I don’t like any of the itv daytime people especially the Loose Women.
Lots more, they just popped into my head.

All of the above (for the entire thread . . . ) but you are the first to mention Steophen Fry.

I can't stand him - the smugness is suffocating.

And to him I will add Alan Davies (A-hole) and Alexander Armstrong. His smarmy voice ruins Classic FM for me.

Yes! Stephen Fry! I'm a bit surprised he hasn't been mentioned more often. I guess he is not quite as ubiquitous as he was a few years ago, which is a good thing.

Self-absorbed, smug, and most importantly, not a very interesting thinking. Someone said he's a non intellectual's idea of an intellectual, and I think that's about right. Just because he's got a posh voice and went to Cambridge, it doesn't make him all that.

SinnerBoy · 10/02/2024 18:16

One person who’s a very z list celeb is Gemma Collins.

Z List?!! When did she get promoted?

😂

Bungle from Rainbow. Big blithering fool.

If you're having Bungle, I demand Peppa Pig. (aka That Damn Pig in Chateau Viper)

Edited

Agree - he's not a tenth as clever as he thinks he is,

SinnerBoy · 10/02/2024 19:31

I only mentioned Bungle because he was the butt of my favourite childhood joke! But yes, Peppa Pig needs the bacon treatment!

Amanda Holden is unwatchable.

But can't believe no one has so far mentioned the unbearable Caroline Quentin?

There are some individuals we don't even want to think about . . . <boak>

When she licked that lad's face on Strictly Envy <- (not envy)

I do quite like Stephen Fry. Partly because he wrote the most brilliant Xmas panto I saw 15 years ago! Plus I think what you see is what you get more or less, even if it’s not to your taste. With some of the annoying people it’s about the fakeness.

Ok 🤷🏻😆 (and what were you expecting her to do when she squeezed past you to the loo?! 😂😂)

I still get the same vibe off her!

It’s interesting so many people say DT as he makes my flesh crawl.

I saw him in Much Ado in London years ago and he was awful. Very hammy. He starred alongside Catherine Tate and whilst she wasn’t great either, she was better than him.

I wonder if it’s because he is soo confident when on TV/radio being interviewed? It’s like he “knows” he’s a great actor, has lots of famous people as friends and can pick and choose roles. Very smug and trying too hard to be sincere and humble.

Something makes me shudder when I see him which is weird, isn’t it?

In the interests of full disclosure - I know nothing about the acting profession.

However I imagine that theatre work is light years away from TV/ film - not only having to get stuff right first time, but also the techniques required to convey emotion etc to the audience, and voice techniques required.

He may be a very good TV actor, but sh1te on stage - and too arrogant to be aware of it.

Not what I meant. I was merely musing that I probably would have joined in when I first joined MN but it's one of the things that has changed about me over time. I think a few years of working with vulnerable people has changed the way I approach everything. I'm not old I don't think!

And people saying they don't like people because of xyz sounds quite benign. But these threads degenerate into comments about appearance, talent, predilections and so on. I guess on a forum designed to make lives easier, being rude about people seems off brand. This isn't a private conversation. It's the internet.

I don't like it. I think that's okay to admit.

Martin Freeman - everyone else I can find a reason for - but I even like his acting mostly just don't want to watch interview and wouldn't want anything to do with him in RL.

I don't like Lucy Worsley - but that's because I met her and found her bit off in person. Same reason why love Carol Vorderman despite not been keen on her TV/radio work- she set up mathsfactor reason my DC are looking or doing maths A-levels - but when they met her as part of that she was absolutely lovely to them.

Nooooooo - not Lucy Worsley . . . . <weeps>

I worship her very hair slide . . .

HelloStarlings · 10/02/2024 19:49

I am trying not to be mean - but it’s like getting 30 years of irritation off my chest!

Probabaly the main reasons I don’t like people are they are overrated (Kidman) or fake (Lorraine Kelly) or superior (Caitlin Moran) or just pointless…

I feel a bit guilty as I’m sure most if not all of them are fine, decent people in real life - kind to their pets, have loving families, stop at zebra crossings and lots lots more. There are some much much worse people in everyday life.

So yh it’s a bit of a strange one. Most of them I don’t wish any ill. Only a couple their come uppance.
