This is why you can’t really tell much about someone by their last purchases! I started cello lessons at the age of 8 then went on to study medicine. My family are east coast of Scotland miners and taxi drivers and my mum and dad spent every spare penny giving my brother and I every opportunity they could (bro is a flautist and a uni lecturer now!)
Saying that my last 5 purchases are food and petrol and school disco tickets for the kids. My mortgage payment bounced this month though…..I’m a GP with many years of experience who was almost bankrupted last year through running a sole partner practice and getting myself into financial difficulty personally funding locum GP’s to provide enough appointments as the government funding isn’t enough to provide a sufficient service.
I’m slowly digging myself out of that hole now I’ve seen sense and am now locuming. According to the daily mail and a lot of posters on here though my last 5 purchases should include caviar and a holiday to the Maldives.

PickledOnionsRodger · 07/02/2024 22:59

I'm so sorry @jumpyjuniper I was really shocked when a friend mentioned to me recently how many GPs were on the verge of going bankrupt. To have that hanging over you with all the other responsibilities is really tough.

I’ve just had surgery so been indulging in some retail therapy as a pick me up, this is not a regular list sadly.

  • some new makeup and other bits from Superdrug
  • new pyjamas for post op from next
  • some new wool
  • a second hand River Island summerdress from vinted
  • washing machine pods
  • B&Js ice cream as on Clubcard prices
  • a £3 bunch of tulips from tesco
  • some magazines (first time I’ve bought some in years!)
  • a latte
  • some of the nice protein bars DP likes as they were also on Clubcard prices

I have missed out all the usual weekly shop items as they are standard weekly buys, the pods are usually monthly so included them for that reason!

jumpyjuniper · 07/02/2024 23:12

Thank you for your kind words. I’m a tough old bird but it does smart seeing how the press and government are demonising GP’s and how this is rubbing off on the general public. Never mind. I haven’t had a full week off since last Easter but I should be in a better position come this Easter!
oh I forgot to add that I did pay 70 quid in Jan for my eldests violin lessons!

Stick-on LED strip lights for dd’s mirror
2 prescriptions
painkillers
electric car charging cable
dd’s driving lesson
roll of ‘chalkboard’ sticky-backed plastic

Think this shows we are a slightly sickly household containing teenagers, with eco pretensions, currently having a very minor home improvement frenzy. Which would be about right.
