I understand and am in general agreement until your last sentence. What do you mean?

ArloAndLucy · 04/02/2024 19:21

No nationalists no more and people don't comply to law
People should be willing to get licences and registration their dogs

and young should be willing to go to war! What on earth become of us how can you say this is a country now.

Everything isn't a conspiracy!

What I find so upsetting about this is that the grandmother knew they were dangerous but she will have have felt she had to visit because it was her grandson.

Yes and her poor grandson will have witnessed the start of the attack before he ran outside to get help.

That poor young lad. I hope he gets lots of help. Lost his Mum 2 years ago I believe, and the dad sounds like a hideous person. He will need therapy.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 04/02/2024 19:24

I grew up near this part of the country, Clacton has been rough since the 80's 90's, it's always been the worst town on that bit of the coast. Jaywick is such an interesting place, it's not social housing, all privately owned. The history of it, back to the east end holiday makers and blitz refugees is worth looking into. It's the closest the UK comes to a shanty town but on the most beautiful beach and with a really close knit community.

I am not surprised this happened here though. There is an element of 'independence' from the locals where normal rules and laws don't apply in the same way.

So sad for the lady who sadly died and her Grandson.

Google picture of it, it’s like nothing you have ever imagined existing in the U.K. It’s like something out of a zombie apocalypse movie.

I've just walked around it, courtesy of Google streetview.

Jeez Louise.

Slightly off topic but my friend used to live in this exact street and going from my nice quiet village to hers for the first time was a massive shock!

The house next door burned down the first night I was there because a gang of yobs were using it as a squat/drug den and burned it to hide the evidence when they realised the police were on their way. It was horrible 20 years ago and I can't imagine it's improved since. 😬

This is a horrible tragedy, and there will be pockets of bad owners who wont comply with the law.

the first article says both adult dogs were pts in the house. I am a little surprised by that. I’m not sure it’s relevant but I thought the dogs would be taken to the vets for some reason.

The dogs were out of control, They had just mauled a woman to death, who was going to go in there and put them in a van and transfer them to the vets? No doubt it wouldn't have been safe to let the medical crew in to try and help the woman without sticking a shotgun through the window and shooting the dogs. Shame they didn't shoot the bloody lowlife POS that owned them while they were there.

Teado · 04/02/2024 19:34

I’m worried about the child. I hope someone is taking care of him.

usernamewhatwhat · 04/02/2024 19:39

I think licences are a good idea and my mum says they used to be needed. Don't know why they stopped them.

One of the papers said this man wasn't just an owner. He was breeding the dogs to sell. If he was a breeder he obviously didn't want his dogs licenced if it's now illegal to sell them. When pit bulls were banned there was a man in the same street DH used to live who was illegally breeding and selling. He was dealing drugs too so don't think he cared about laws. More needs to be done to stop the illegal breeders. Even when it's a legal breed there should be better checking of breeders

"It seems pitbulls, similar to expensive jewellery, are frequently utilised by individuals of lower socioeconomic status as symbols of wealth and avenues to make additional income."

Looks like he was breeding them. A 'side hustle.'

Every XL Bully should be forcibly removed from their owners property and shot, I know I have said this before but I really cannot stand those dogs.

And the dogs put down too !

DaisyDaffodil · 04/02/2024 16:32

I’ve just read this.

That poor child lost his mum 2 years ago and has now lost his grandmother under horrific circumstances. My heart goes out to him.

And his dad with any luck - absolutely awful for the child!

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 04/02/2024 19:47

That poor woman and that poor little boy. What a lot he's been through in the last couple of years. I hope they throw the book at his father.

BoxOfPaints · 04/02/2024 19:14

I bet your new neighbours in the nice part of town love having you (and the dogs large enough to hold your interest) around.

Quite. As a PP said, it rings of “small hand guns just don’t hold my interest, I prefer AK47s, it’s just the way I am”.

I have an acquaintance who’s a police officer for a force covering Jaywick - some of the stories he’s come out with in the past are jaw-dropping.

Not seen him for a while, but I don’t expect things are any better than 5 years ago when we last caught up. Awful place

There was a documentary about Jaywick a few years back. Sorry can't remember what it was called and may well be on YouTube, but the poverty there is indescribable.

ThisOldThang · 04/02/2024 19:53

puncheur · 04/02/2024 18:59

Jaywick is all private housing. Even the roads are privately owned (and unmaintained). Google picture of it, it’s like nothing you have ever imagined existing in the U.K. It’s like something out of a zombie apocalypse movie.

I've had a look on Google Maps and it looks completely fine.

Seriously, I think the exact manner and location of the putting-to-sleep is, by a wide margin, the least important aspect of this hideous incident.

BeadedBubbles · 04/02/2024 19:57

@Seasaltsquall - It's called, 'Jaywick - the most deprived town in Britain'. I remember watching it. It is indeed on YouTube.

Louise0808 · 04/02/2024 19:58

@BoxOfPaints
I cant say I've heard anything negative about them. The immediate neighbours visit. At first they asked questions etc which is sensible when you meet any dog. It's absolutely fine that you do not like me or my type of dog. Have a nice day

I thought Scotland was about to bring in the same rules?

This is something both countries should have agreed on and implemented at the same time.

Not until July. The numpties that are the snp choose not to implement the ban in line with Westminster simply because to keep their wee ned followers they can't be seen to ever agree with Westminster, it was as simple as that but they have now had to agree to the same rules as not one of the fuckwits could grasp that dogs from the south would be sent across the border. They were told it would happen over and over again.

Seasaltsquall · 04/02/2024 20:00

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 04/02/2024 14:28

The social deprivation, the ‘deed not breed’ or ‘owner not dog’ and all other arguments are irrelevant.

Nobody should be allowed to keep these sorts of dogs as pets and, like a pp said, the dogs should be taken away and destroyed. There are other breeds and types of big dogs that should go with the XL Bullies.

The issue is more or less exactly like that for firearms. It doesn’t matter how responsible some owners are. If any owners aren’t responsible people are injured and killed. Often children.

There is no justification for keeping a dog capable of killing an adult. None.

I agree. A radio presenter on LBC was making exactly that point last week during a phone-in. I would bet my life there has never been a death caused by an aggressive Golden Retriever, or Newfoundland. It's just not in their DNA.

Clacton used to be quite respectable when my Grandparents lived there in the 60’s 70”s and early 80’s.
Looks like the area has gone downhill massively

Edited

I grew up there in that era, my parents continued to live there. Clacton was fine - Jaywick never was. Apart from it being shabby 'chalets', it was an area which had already by then experienced tragedy and devastation when it was flooded in the 50s.

Go look at brooklands - that’s Jaywick “proper”
