Can you do a press up and how old are you?

I’m 55 and do an awesome plank. But my press-up is an apologetic little dip you’d hardly notice. I don’t know hoe you get better at it…

64, and I have done one press up, once, at a party in the 80s. I have no plans to do more.

ShowOfHands · 03/02/2024 22:17

43 and yes.

I can do 25 comfortably. But I work out a lot and do a lot of weight training and body weight exercises.

Dacadactyl · 03/02/2024 22:18

I can do 3 and am 38. A few years ago I could do 15 in one go but I've really let myself go exercise wise and I'm heavier than I want to be.

Paw2024 · 03/02/2024 22:50

@ConcertaFirstTimer have you tried with a resistance band? It helped me as a progression

KohlaParasaurus · 03/02/2024 22:55

59, yes, sets of 20 full press ups before I start losing form. Press ups are apparently a movement in which inflexibility is an advantage, and I'm not at all flexible.

RJnomore1 · 03/02/2024 22:58

47 and yes. Also inflexible interestingly!

pull ups however are and always have been a completely different matter

Much of the strength for press-ups comes from your back and triceps

Meadowfinch · 03/02/2024 23:20

Yes I can do 10 proper press-ups, it's a regular part of our karate class. I'm 60.

QuestionableMouse · 03/02/2024 23:24

No, 38, but have a fucked shoulder.

PickAChew · 03/02/2024 23:24

50s. Never managed a press up. Forward roll was my limit. Ended up with a painful torticollis when an arsehole of a gym teacher bullied me into attempting a backwards roll. Turns out that I have rather unstable joints.

Holidayhell22 · 03/02/2024 23:25

I can manage a couple then have to drop to my knees.
I’m 56. In my 40s I could do full press ups. It’s got a lot harder as I’ve gone through the menopause and gotten older.

Lysianthus · 03/02/2024 23:26

58, yes. Planks, press-ups, weights, bench presses,

Dr told me I was obese a couple of years ago. I'm very fit (skiing, HiIT classes, tennis) and yet.....
I ignored dr and carry on regardless.

Fizbosshoes · 03/02/2024 23:28

I could probably do 20 press ups....but I've never been able to do a sit up
I'm 46

bruffin · 03/02/2024 23:30

Age 61 and can do 1 maybe 2.

TeeBee · 03/02/2024 23:34

Yes, 51

Anoisagusaris · 04/02/2024 01:15

I l’m fat and unfit but can do planks and sit ups and lots of pilates moves, but have never been able to do press ups.

idontlikealdi · 04/02/2024 08:33

44 and yes but it took about a year of training to get off my knees and do it properly

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 04/02/2024 08:38

62 , regular gym goer including lots of body pump.

My press-ups are dire. I can occasionally manage 3 or 4 in succession, but that’s rare. And I have never been able to do a narrow tricep push up.
But I could squat for Scotland.

Deliadidit · 04/02/2024 08:43

In my mid 50’s and yes but that’s because I’ve exercised since young and never stopped doing them.

Whu · 04/02/2024 08:48

Late thirties and yes I can do many press-ups. It’s pull-ups that are a challenge for me.

Wednesday6 · 04/02/2024 10:43

I've never been able to do it... normal weight okay plank

FMW · 04/02/2024 11:04

Yes - several proper ones - body pump devotee.
