Name fashion - guess my age

GuessThatGranny · 03/02/2024 21:15

We all know certain names date people to certain decades.

So I wondered, in the spirit of retro names etc, if you can guess my age by my grandparents’ names.

They were called:

Elizabeth
Jane
John
Allan

I'd say you're in your early 30s.
Grandparents born in the 50s, parents in the 70s, you in the 90s.

Elizabeth - like Queenie so born 1926, parents 1940s/50s, you 1970s/80s?

1975

KirstenBlest · 03/02/2024 23:11

Elizabeth, Jane and John were very popular up to about 1970, so could be any age. My grandparents' names are not a giveaway to their ages. At least one of their names is on your list.

Depending on their age when they had your parents could make a big difference. Families often had many children born over about 20 years.
My grandfathers were born in the 19th century but had married women much younger, and both my parents were born to 'older mothers'.

ALongHardWinter · 03/02/2024 23:19

I'd say late 30s.

GuessThatGranny · 04/02/2024 13:27

One of you has it spot on.

Grandparents all born in the early 1900s, and I’m now mid fifties. Just shows, that while we think names tie to a decade actually hard to guess.

It was me! Your grandparents' names are fairly classic and aren't linked with a particular decade. If you had said Gary, Tracey, Paul and Julie, we'd have said that you were probably under 12yo.

murasaki · 04/02/2024 14:32

Those are all fairly classic, so hard to guess, it could have been a wide range. Try mine?

Horace, Kathleen, Ronald and Phyllis.

Similar to my grandparents names so I’m guessing 45

KirstenBlest · 04/02/2024 18:36

Horace, Kathleen, Ronald and Phyllis sound like names from the 1930s to me, so your parents might have been born in the late1950s and had you in the early 80s.
about 39-42?

murasaki · 04/02/2024 18:56

@Hermanfromguesswho nearly bang on, 46. Horace and Kathleen were in their 40s when they had my mum, and the dobs across the 4 is 1904 to 1916. I always felt they sounded older.... Horace hated it and was always known as Bill!

murasaki · 04/02/2024 18:58

@KirstenBlest my youngest sister is 42 so your guess counts too.

MissingMoominMamma · 04/02/2024 19:03

Oooh, I like this game!

Jessie, Joseph, Dorothy and Maurice.
