Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just about to drink my first cuppa of the day, curled up in my kitchen spot. It looks quite grey outside so I won't be moving for a while.

The washer's on for it's first load and there's a second sorted for when that's done. There's also a bit of dry washing on the radiator to fold when I get to it. Other than that, I don't plan to do much around the house today.

We're off for a wander round a local shopping outlet today - I want to nip in the B&M and make-up shops out there. We might get the bus to the big Asda & call into McDonald's for a hot drink, to walk round the lake with, to get there I think.

I'm leaving a stew in the slow cooker for the day, for when we get in, & will cook some part baked rolls to go with it 😋 Hopefully there'll be enough for tomorrow too! I'll have a glass of wine with mine.

Later on I'll pick up my book, or Murdle (still struggling with puzzle 39) & dd2 will probably play with whatever make up she picks today. Dd1 will probably play games online with a boy she likes 😊

What about all of you? 🙂

Stew sounds blooming lush! Loving the big Asda shop as well. What book are you reading? I am reading The Bone Field - 30p from the library book sale 😀

Today, me and DDs (9&6) are on the hunt for Korean donuts as a couple of local bakeries stock them. I will do some studying later for my final 2 trimesters of my Masters in Creative Writing! I am pitching my 12k word piece. I know what it will be about but am trying to plug some story holes.

DH and I snuck in a quick "snuggle" after we sent the DDs town to watch TV 😉

Cloud44 · 03/02/2024 08:41

Love these posts! Partner at work, I’m having a lazy start to the morning still in bed having cat cuddles!! Normally up by now so feeling a bit guilty! Hoping to catch up with a friend later , need to do a couple of house chores and want to fit in a bit of yoga.

Crunchymum · 03/02/2024 08:42

Morning @lucysmam I hope you are feeling well?

I did all the washing yesterday, so it will be ready for ironing tomorrow.

It's grey here too but we've got quite a full on day.

I've got a hospital appointment shortly (yes on a Saturday!) so I'm taking DD1 with me so we can hit Primark after as she has some birthday money to spend. It was meant to be "just" Primark but we are now also hitting Lush and Claire's too.

DP is swimming with DD2 and has to drop the eldest at a party / pick him up.

Then we have early dinner plans for a family birthday. There'll be 25 of us and we are going for Tapas.

I've promised to take my two nieces home with us for a sleep over so I need find the blow up beds and dress the spare duvets etc I have popcorn / dips / nachos and a few films lined up. The 4 girls can sleep in the living room.

piscofrisco · 03/02/2024 08:44

Morning @lucysmam and all. No kids this weekend as they are with their respective other parents, but we do have three big dogs staying with us whilst our friends are away, on top of our own two. I've been up early, fed them all and let them out, now back in bed with a cup of tea and dh.

Dh is suffering with a bad bout of depression/anxiety just now so we are going to have a quiet weekend (can't go far anyway due to doggies). We will try to do some gentle bits in the garden, take the dogs for a walk in the woods, then cook something nice and probably complicated for dinner (he loves cooking and it tends to help him when he is feeling rubbish). And that will be the lot for today I think-but it's not a bad way to spend a Saturday anyway.

Have a nice day all Smile

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 03/02/2024 08:45

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I like the sound of your stew. Xtraincome I also like the sound of Korean donuts! I've had a coffee and two slices of raisin/cranberry/pistachio bread. I'm about to have a second coffee then it'll be an Aldi trip for food. I don't need much because Tesco delivered on Wednesday. I'll change bedding and do the housework. I live alone so it shouldn't take long. I'll play around with a pastel drawing of a snowdrop head I'm working on. I ordered tools to help the fine detail so I'll see what(if anything) they do. A burger with salad for dinner. Enjoy your day

DominoRules · 03/02/2024 08:45

I’m having a cuppa and toast after a lovely early dog walk. Off to football for DS2 shortly then this afternoon I’m going to see the musical I Should Be So Lucky and out for dinner for a very dear friends birthday, can’t wait!!

mondaytosunday · 03/02/2024 08:45

I've fed cats let the dogs out back in gone back to bed. Daughter is asleep still (28, will be for a while), son (who doesn't live with us but texts every day) says he's about to catch the bus for work.
DD is off for just under a month work experience in Portugal on Monday so I expect I'll be doing a few loads of laundry! Other than that I'm supposed to have crochet her a top so need to crack on with that.

piscofrisco · 03/02/2024 08:46

@Crunchymum jealous of your primark visit. I've seen loads about their new home stuff that I want to check out as it all looks really nice-but our newest one with a decent home bit is an hour away.

AntonFeckoff · 03/02/2024 08:47

What are Korean doughnuts? They sound very intriguing.

I’m ill at the moment, which isn’t like me at all, so lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself and wishing I had someone to bring me things so I could stay here all day.

Crishell · 03/02/2024 08:50

We usually have lazy Saturday mornings. My husband is clearing out the garage though this morning as someone is coming to convert our two garage doors into one big door.

Me and my DD are sat watching the new Beauty and the Beast for the 4000th time, with her narrating it all the way through as usual, which is sweet. I'm drinking coffee, browsing on here, then I'm going to go meet a friend at soft play and have a good catch up. She's just found out she's pregnant with her second which is exciting.

Other than that nothing else rest of the day. I'll maybe do some exam prep as I've got a hobby-related exam coming up, and maybe declutter the spare bedroom. Been meaning to do that for a while.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/02/2024 08:52

Morning all! I've got lots of work to do this weekend, but so far I've got up, put the breadmaker on to make a nice loaf for lunch and then curled up in the living room with the dog to do some knitting... but just sitting here on MN instead. Dh is making a pheasant and cider casserole for dinner. We will probably go for a dog walk and the weather looks ok. Ds was going to go skateboarding with his friends but he's really tired and has a cricked neck so he's just going to chill out at home.

JoleneTookHerMan · 03/02/2024 08:52

I had so many lovely plans for today..make a nice stew in slow cooker, take kids out for something nice to eat for lunch, we have tickets for a family fun swimming session at the local pools, come home and whilst kids play on tablets, settle down with my book (The Housemaid).

Instead, I am in bed feeling like death warmed up having just tested positive with Covid.

FlorencenotRatchet · 03/02/2024 08:57

Morning @lucysmam and all.
It's going to be a quiet one for me today.
Currently in bed recovering from a vomiting and diarrhoea bug. Thankfully the worst is over and just contemplating having my first cup of tea for 2 days.
Enjoy your day everyone.

Decafflatteplease · 03/02/2024 08:58

Morning @lucysmam and all!

We are off to the park this morning, feed the ducks, then a wander round the village shops, might get some cakes etc as a little treat. Teens are staying here to do homework, there's just so much of it at the moment 🙄

Not sure about the afternoon, probably just pottering.

Moussaka for dinner / fish fingers / jacket potatoes for DC.

Then gladiators we all like that! It's on a bit later tonight so will make sure little ones are bathed etc and they can have supper watching it.

Wine and TV for DH and I later on.

Escapetosomewhere · 03/02/2024 09:01

DH just bought me a coffee and I can hear him tidying the kitchen 🙂
I’ll stick the washing on and be a bit aimless for a while. Id quite like to get on with some hobbies. Friends may come by to start prepping the allotment.
good idea to stick something in the slow cooker! Never occurs to me to cook dinner, till…dinner.
DS will probably be playing video games. He gets a bit bored but I have no idea how to help. As he refuses to come out!

Tiddlywinks63 · 03/02/2024 09:04

Good morning everyone, it’s a dreary damp start here so DH will take the dog out for a long walk while I get on with having a clear out - I have far too much stuff 🙄
We’ll have gammon and mash for lunch then DH wants to watch the rugby so I will do some more coloured pencils tutorials online or enjoy a podcast while finishing knitting a pair of socks.

Bouledeneige · 03/02/2024 09:06

I'm sitting in bed with some toast, OJ and coffee. In a while I will go for my weekly visit to the care home to see my 94 yr old father and try to cheer him up with chat about news and literature.

Then I will go and meet up with a friend for a coffee and sandwich - as we do every other weekend - and exchange gossip. She has a Dad in similar circumstances. I will pop into some shops and take my necklace to be mended.

Later I will go home and potter and put some washing on. Then my DD, neice and I will go out for tapas and to see comedy in a pub club near us. I will be paying obvs!

Peridot1 · 03/02/2024 09:07

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

You reminded me to put some washing on so that’s done.

Stew sounds lovely. Might put that on the menu for during the week. We are having Cajun Dirty Rice from one of the Pinch of Nom books for dinner tonight.

Get well vibes to all of you who are ill.

Quiet day here for us. DS went back to Dublin to uni on Monday having been here for two months. I will strip his bed today - been meaning to do it all week.

Hoping DH will tidy the garage a bit so I can get to the treadmill. If not I’ll go to the gym. I also need to try on some things I bought in M&S yesterday and I suspect a few will be going back.

I also need to do a couple of emails to the joiner who has sent through some drawings of things we are having done in the house soon.

RabbitsRock · 03/02/2024 09:08

Good morning lucysmam & everyone. In bed & have had about half my cuppa but it’s gone cold. Will have a shower & wash my hair when DH finishes then do the dishwasher & see if there’s enough for a load of washing. As I said in last night’s thread, I’m recuperating from keyhole surgery so not doing a lot. Might have a takeaway for tea. Definitely going to watch Gladiators & I quite like the Ant & Dec quiz, whatever it’s called.

Goldenbrowntexturelikesun · 03/02/2024 09:09

Taking my dd15 prom dress shopping.

OldTinHat · 03/02/2024 09:11

Good morning @lucylucysmam and all!

I've booked a lino printing course for this weekend so I'll be heading off in a minute. Just got to put my lunch in a bag.

Had a panic earlier because my phone fell down the back of a radiator, happily still playing an audi book. I thought I'd have to. All someone to take the radiator off then realised I didn't have a phone! Anyway, 20 minutes later, with the help of a mop and long handled duster, I managed to push it out of the side. Phew!

Right, must go! Have a lovely day everybody!

devildeepbluesea · 03/02/2024 09:13

Morning everyone.
Wet and windy dog walk done, weights done (just finished week 5 of Caroline Girvan’s Iron series). Just enjoying a pastry and a capucchino before heading upstairs for a sheet mask then a long shower.

DD will pop in for lunch before going to her theatre rehearsal.

I have friends coming to stay and we’re going into town to watch the rugby. We’ll be in Cardiff which will be mayhem and huge fun - Wales v Scotland is always the best day! Will probably finish the night with curry sauce and chips 😋

Icequeen01 · 03/02/2024 09:15

DH just getting ready to go to golf. I'm sitting having my breakfast with one of my cats snuggled up next to me. Will shortly get ready as want to drop my car off at the car wash for an inside and outside clean as it's filthy. Whilst they are doing that I am going to get my nails done. Then back home to do some washing/hoovering whilst I wait for DH to get back.

Once he's home we are going to do our big monthly shop at Tesco. DS works at Tesco and this is the 15% off weekend for staff which usually saves us about £70. I will then cook dinner - salmon in chilli sauce tonight. DM will come over as she's elderly and eats with us every evening if we are in and we will find a film to watch. We've been out the last 2 Saturdays so looking forward to a night in.

lucysmam · 03/02/2024 09:16

@Xtraincome I'm reading Shatter Me - dd2 picked the series for me, for Christmas, from The Works, and then the follow up series for my birthday. So I have lots to keep me occupied.

@Crunchymum I am indeed! Bit of a cold, like pretty much everyone else, but otherwise good thanks!

@piscofrisco I hope your dh is feeling much brighter soon. Your plans for the day sound nice and steady 😊

@JoleneTookHerMan I hope you're feeling better quickly 💐

@Escapetosomewhere I really don't use it enough & it's perfect for days when you're out all day or just know you cba to cook later on! How old is your ds? When dd2 gets like that I just don't give her the choice - we're usually going further than I'm comfortable with leaving her on her own (on purpose).

Naturally woke before 6, so have already had much coffee, read, second lot of washing on only shirts to go and had a lovely peaceful morning bath.

House/garden jobs today. Hopefully with plenty of time for more reading
Friends round for roast tomorrow so want an easy, welcoming house with no jobs.

Eldest wants to make dinner mind so we shall see. And will attempt to clear homework today.
