If you were on Come dine with me...

Just for fun (and for inspiration) If you were to go on Come Dine with Me, what would you cook for your starter, main and dessert?

I'm planning to cook a 3 course meal to celebrate something with DH and I'm in need of some inspiration.

I try to add some variety to our weekly meals anyway and I enjoy cooking but I'd like to do something a bit special and perhaps make an effort with the presentation.

French onion soup

Chateaubriand
potato dauphinoise
green beans

fruit salad and cream

Snoopystick · 02/02/2024 19:23

Hot Chinese style salmon with salad leaves.

Beef stew with garlic potatoes, oven baked carrots and either broccoli or green beans.

Lemon drizzle cake with ice cream.

Your menu sounds delicious but we all know that you won't win with a fruit salad and ice cream dessert

Mine would be seared scallops (with lemon butter and shallots) -easy starter, sounds and tastes impressive,

slow cooked lamb shanks with rosemary roast potatoes and green beans, - mostly prepped in advance

followed by Eton mess - easy but tasty and light.

Ha true. Unless they add 'surprise' to the dessert on the menu and make their own ice cream

Starter - can of Stella

Main - Super Noodles, choice of chicken or curry, served with sliced white bread and butter for noodle sandwiches

Dessert - Angel Delight and tinned fruit cocktail

AnImaginaryCat · 02/02/2024 20:33

You can't do fruit salad and cream!! Everyone would be outraged. I suggest if you do that you give it a weird name, so that at least one of the guests can't say it.

Martinni · 02/02/2024 20:34

Starter - garlic mushrooms on sourdough toast.
Main -tartiflette with green salad. (Can prep in advance, delicious it is my favourite meal)
Dessert - key lime pie.

2in13 · 02/02/2024 20:35

The other menus are lovely but super noodles are a clear winner here

Home made key lime pie is delicious

DiamondGazette · 02/02/2024 20:37

Starter: Fig and goat's cheese filo parcels

Main course: Roast pork shoulder with cinnamon and clementines

Dessert: Almond cheesecake meringue nests

Do I win?

febbabies2023 · 02/02/2024 20:39

Ooooh I love a good menu choice!

Mine would be:
Starter - seared scallops, crispy pancetta, lambs lettuce and a lemon and garlic sauce
Main - pan fried duck, potato fondant, honey glazed carrots and a red wine jus
Dessert - sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream

🤤

5/10. Fruit salad is a cop out.

NoKateMoss · 02/02/2024 20:43

Warm goats cheese with apple to start

Chicken shawarma

Lemon tart

TheGoddessFreyja · 02/02/2024 20:52
  • Beer Battered Mushrooms with garlic mayo (probably would do a little rocket salad on the side)
  • Ribeye Steak with dauphinous potatoes, asparagus or tenderstem brocoli with peppercorn sauce
  • White chocolate cheesecake with a Shortbread base instead of digestives

❤️

AnImaginaryCat · 02/02/2024 20:56

Sorry i didn't put my menu, just insulted the fryit salad choice.

I'd insist everyone wears 70s clothes. Then serve

Prawn cocktail

Duck a l'orange with green beans and roast potatoes

Blackforest gateau, pineapple upside-down cake and baked alaska on a trolley.

After eights and coffee to follow.

Wine selection Liebfraumilch and Blue Nun

Scallops Gratin for starter

Duck breast with a red win jus, roasted carrots, mixed greens and potato dauphinoise

Even if it was really lovely fruit and special homemade cream??

maybe I could stick some home made sponge fingers in there and call it deconstructed trifle…

Lorac23 · 02/02/2024 21:03

French onion soup with fresh crusty bread and little curls of butter

Beef OR seafood lasagne OR home made sweet and sour crispy pork or chicken balls OR tempura vegetables OR butterfly chicken in panko breadcrumbs with Yutaka curry sauce and sticky rice OR fresh pasta with pine nuts, pesto and parmesan

Sticky toffee pudding OR creme brulee with real vanilla ice cream and raspberry coulis

Love a super noodle sandwich 😋

MyCatHasStaff · 02/02/2024 21:06

Smoked salmon and prawns with a small green salad

Duck breast with baby vegetables - carrots, leeks & tenderstem broccoli

Trio of desserts - almond & raspberry trifle in a shot glass, mini salted caramel and chocolate tart, and apple crumble served in a ramekin

There’d be complaints about the cheesy potatoes, runner beans and leftover meat for the main as well. I threw that together for the kids tea the night before last. And an onion soup starter (while potentially lovely) could only be justified by a seriously impressive main and dessert

Chickenwing2 · 02/02/2024 21:21

Started- either French onion soup or Cullen skink

Main - beef wellington

Dessert - fruit crumble and choice of custard or ice cream (I know this is easy but it's the best dessert!)

2in13 · 02/02/2024 21:27

@NoKateMoss Surely chateaubriand and dauphinoise bump it up to 6 or 7/10
