If you were on Come dine with me...

Just for fun (and for inspiration) If you were to go on Come Dine with Me, what would you cook for your starter, main and dessert?

I'm planning to cook a 3 course meal to celebrate something with DH and I'm in need of some inspiration.

I try to add some variety to our weekly meals anyway and I enjoy cooking but I'd like to do something a bit special and perhaps make an effort with the presentation.

Starter - can of Stella

Main - Super Noodles, choice of chicken or curry, served with sliced white bread and butter for noodle sandwiches

Dessert - Angel Delight and tinned fruit cocktail

You win my vote!

Comedycook · 02/02/2024 21:33

I might go 1970s..but attempt to make it more modern so

Prawn cocktail
Steak and chips
Black forest gateaux

Love a super noodle sandwich 😋

I love your menu but I’d make a couple of adjustments if you don’t mind. I’d spend a couple of hours drinking the starter which would be 3 cans of Stella. Then I’d enjoy the main course and leave the angel delight for breakfast 😋

Classic prawn cocktail with warm crusty bread
Baked lobster with garlic butter, samphire and fries
Almond and raspberry roulade 😋

Sorry i didn't put my menu, just insulted the fryit salad choice.

I'd insist everyone wears 70s clothes. Then serve

Prawn cocktail

Duck a l'orange with green beans and roast potatoes

Blackforest gateau, pineapple upside-down cake and baked alaska on a trolley.

After eights and coffee to follow.

Wine selection Liebfraumilch and Blue Nun

Wonderful! I would come dressed like Margot Ledbetter. I would rather some decent wine though...

  • Beer Battered Mushrooms with garlic mayo (probably would do a little rocket salad on the side)
  • Ribeye Steak with dauphinous potatoes, asparagus or tenderstem brocoli with peppercorn sauce
  • White chocolate cheesecake with a Shortbread base instead of digestives

❤️

This sounds delicious.

Mine would be seared scallops (with lemon butter and shallots) -easy starter, sounds and tastes impressive,

slow cooked lamb shanks with rosemary roast potatoes and green beans, - mostly prepped in advance

followed by Eton mess - easy but tasty and light.

This is my favourite so far.

martinisforeveryone · 02/02/2024 21:48

Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé with some mixed leaves
Scottish salmon with wild garlic pesto, Piedmont peppers, boulangère potatoes and green beans
Baked vanilla cheesecake topped with passion fruit sauce and a dark chocolate curl

WandaWonder · 02/02/2024 21:54

I would have to make everything including plates etc. by scratch just so when they do that voice amd snigger and go 'so did you bake the bread?' I could go yes the butter and even the plate it came on

Probably wouldn't be difficult to raise the game one the wine!!

Not actually sure you can get Blue Nun any more. -.so I might not have any choice.

JennyWreny · 02/02/2024 22:18

Whipped goats cheese and beetroot salad

Carbonnade de boeuf

Whisky and chocolate cremeux with whisky ice cream, coffee and caramel

GingerScallop · 02/02/2024 22:32

Seared scallops with ginger lace
Milk or cider braised pork belly with crackling
Creme brulee with a port braise prunes

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/02/2024 22:44

I'd go for a good old fashioned meal!

A fish pate of some sort

My nan's recipe Meat and potato pie with green veg

Some form of trifle

CharlotteStreetW1 · 02/02/2024 23:11

Mini full English - bacon lardons, cherry tomato, quails egg, cocktail sausage on a portobello mushroom (as a nod to my B&B days)

Slow cooked lamb with mash (mine is unsurpassed!) and seasonal veg

Banoffee pie (see mash) or, if I think it's a bit heavy after the starter and main, lemon posset with homemade shortbread or amaretto biscuits

(I thought Blue Nun and Black Tower were Liebfraumilch? We thought we were very sophisticated when we moved on to Niersteiner! 🤮)

AnImaginaryCat · 03/02/2024 06:14

Oh, see, you'd be that sort of guest!! Knocking off points for an innocent error just to give yourself an advantage 😒.

(Don't actually know - it very well could be.I've never actually drank it!! Being such a youngster and only born in the 70s. 😀)

This is my favourite, well second favourite after the noodle sarnies obviously.

Mine would be chilli and honey baked ricotta with grapes and prosciutto, Beef wellington with ginger and carrot purée, and strawberry pavlova for desert.

WineMakesTheWorldGoAround · 03/02/2024 06:36

Prawn cocktail.
Lamb dinner with goose fat roasted potatoes and gravy.
Vienetta ice cream (we don't 'do' dessert so that's the best I could come up with)
Loads of wine....in the hope my guests would be that pissed they massively over scored my efforts 😆

Fucking right I'd make my own butter just to be a pedantic little twat myself.
Let's go on couples come dine with me together and be the most unpalatable pair we can be. 😂

Scarydinosaurs · 02/02/2024 21:02

Even if it was really lovely fruit and special homemade cream??

maybe I could stick some home made sponge fingers in there and call it deconstructed trifle…

I’m perturbed by the idea of home made cream. Who are you milking to get that?

my menu would be

caviar with crème fraiche and blinis

roast chicken with Mediterranean vegetables and feta and little roasted potatoes

Black Forest trifle

EveryOtherNameTaken · 03/02/2024 06:53

Scallops Gratin for starter

Duck breast with a red win jus, roasted carrots, mixed greens and potato dauphinoise
Chocolate and raspberry torte or Lemon posset

Deeeelish!! I want 😋

AdaColeman · 03/02/2024 07:01

Mixed seafood gratin

Saltimbocca served with Greek style roast potatoes and fresh peas

Crepes Suzette

Lwrenn · 03/02/2024 07:19

Welcomed with cocktails and champagne.

Starter - breaded deep fried brie wedges, served on a salad of slow roasted peppers and onions and rocket, with homemade apricot chutney and a balsamic glaze.

Slow roasted miso belly pork, with glazed baby carrots, pak choi, sweet potato and roasted garlic mash with a soy sauce/red wine jus. Or, "that weird gravy thingy" if you're using its technical term given by my eldest dc.

Trio of desserts
Lemon drizzle polenta cake with a passionfruit and lime sauce and ice cream made creme fraiche so it's zingy.

Set creme diplomat like a mousse almost with a drizzle of salted caramel & pistachio tuile.

Chocolate cremeux with an amaretto and cherry compote and almond crumb.

Cheeseboard - stinking bishop/sage derby/wensleydale with cranberry/a good mature cheddar/baked camebert with different pairings, homemade bread, butter and chutneys and crackers.

Baileys coffee or hot chocolate.

You can prize that grand out my cold dead hands 😂

sashh · 03/02/2024 07:30

Starter - ones I do often.

Chicken and pork terrine - James Martin's cheatrecipe

Filo pastry parcels with salmon and cream cheese or brie with mange chutney

Courgette and coriander soup - it's vegan and can be served cold

Baked camembert with crusty bread

Main

Duck with cherry sauce, the sauce is half a jar of morello cherry jam and red wine in a pan until it reduces

Chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce - chicken breasts in the slow cooker with sliced mushrooms a tin of condensed mushroom soup and a pot of creme fraiche.

Puddings

Jam roly poly - steamed in the slow cooker (obviously not in the same slow cooker)

Lemon cheese cake

To be honest I tend to do 5 courses if I'm entertaining. So I might do the terrine as a starter, the salmon filo parcels for the fish course, the duck, followed by the cheese cake and then a cheese board.
