Just for fun (and for inspiration) If you were to go on Come Dine with Me, what would you cook for your starter, main and dessert?

I'm planning to cook a 3 course meal to celebrate something with DH and I'm in need of some inspiration.

I try to add some variety to our weekly meals anyway and I enjoy cooking but I'd like to do something a bit special and perhaps make an effort with the presentation.

French onion soup to start

Beef Wellington, dauphinoise potatoes with glazed chanterelle carrots and steamed broccoli

Eaton mess for pudding

All really easy to prepare in advance and easy to make presentable.

Ooh OR

Breaded deep fried brie with chill jam, small salad to garnish

Moules mariniere served with fresh crusty baguette

Chocolate fondue

Pineapple martinis to drink

Caprese salad and crusty bread

Spaghetti carbonara

Tiramisu

Red wine to drink

Mine would be simple!

Starter - creamy garlic mushrooms on crusty bread

Main - lasagne with garlic bread and salad

Dessert - chocolate cupcakes with toasted marshmallow frosting

I wouldn't win any awards for effort but it would be delicious 😋

This is tricky isn’t it, because you need food you can cook well and show off about a bit but nothing to scare people. Not my dream meal to cook for friends but I’d probably play safe with this.

Starter - fresh tomato soup with homemade rolls and whipped cheese to spread on the bread

Main - glazed duck breast with garlic sauté potatoes and an interesting salad

Dessert - warm caramel apple upside down cake with homemade vanilla ice cream

DyslexicPoster · 04/02/2024 10:54

I'd do a mishmash of things that dont go together but that I like

Goat cheese and caramelised onion puff pastry

Lamb biryani

Sorbet deluxe ice cream from Lidi I'd pretend I made with a home made cheese cake.

But if it was come dine with me I'd forget to buy the lamb and rice ad use chicken and cous cous probably.

Someone wouldn't like Cajun. They're like that on purpose.

They wouldn't just not like Caju, they'd hate prawns and crabs too.

Very possibly not like food that much really!

“Come Dine with Mumsnet” would make for an excellent web spin-off.

2in13 · 05/02/2024 11:20

I would watch that religiously

Dessert golden cap pudding, properly made with suet, and vanilla ice cream

Beef Stifado

Honey and rosewater baklava

Mythos beer

My family would only eat the stifado

2in13 · 05/02/2024 13:23

Are these menus making everyone else think about food all day?

@GettingStuffed you've just reminded me I have saltfish waiting to be used.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Lots of food for thought laughs dryly
