Good.

murasaki · 02/02/2024 15:28

Minus 352 days on remand, but yes, good.

RIP Brianna.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 02/02/2024 15:30

Not long enough in my opinion but watching it the sentencing was thorough and to the guidelines.

MorrisZapp · 02/02/2024 15:32

They played the entire judgement on the radio. Very clearly communicated reasons for the tariffs.

Utterly chilling details of the crime, so horrifying to think kids could cause so much pain and suffering.

I thought that was the point they become eligible for parole but the judge said it could in fact be much longer

Yeah that's exactly what I thought.
The judge was really clear & exact as to why those were the sentences handed down.

The judge did a good job in what must have been a traumatic case to work through. I assume the jurors have been excused further jury duty for life.

Westfacing · 02/02/2024 15:34

One can only admire the Judiciary - just listening to the various aspects the judge has to take into account in her decisions, with two very young defendants.

I took a sharp intake of breath at the length of the sentences - fully deserved IMO.

LSTMS30555 · 02/02/2024 15:34

@nowthelighthasgone yes they'll both have to serve the full 20 & 22 years before being considered for parole and even than it's not a definite they will ever be released.

Yes you only get a parole hearing at the end of tarriff point. if the parole board say you have not done enough to reduce the risk they pose to the public then they will be kept in prison and then reviews take place every 12 to 24 months

Sarvanga38 · 02/02/2024 15:40

I thought there might be a little more difference in the sentences, listening to the judge's foreword. It sounded to me as if even she had found it all very upsetting.

Dreadful for all concerned, no family should have to listen to that detail on their poor child.

medianewbie · 02/02/2024 15:45

So many judges hand down odd sentences, it was reassuring to hear such a clear, thorough & appropriate judgement on such an 'inexplicable' crime. RIP Brianna. May her loved ones draw some peace from today.

belvitas · 02/02/2024 15:45

didn't the judge say that jenkinson has expressed a desire to kill again?

Gooseysgirl · 02/02/2024 15:46

I listened to it, I thought the judge was excellent. The sentencing is proportionate and she gave due consideration to the reports from medical professionals.

murasaki · 02/02/2024 15:48

Hopefully because the judge was so clear re the guidelines, there won't be an appeal for shorter sentences.

fuckmyuteruslining · 02/02/2024 15:54

It seems a fair sentence to me. I'm not sure Jenkinson in particular can ever be released. That poor kid, thinking they were her friends.

I'm full of admiration for anybody who works with them. As the mother of a teen who's been very badly treated on an emotional level by so called friends I'd find it impossible.

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 15:55

I happened to turn over to Times radio and heard part of the judge’s sentencing

She was very clear and did a good job, it was horrifying though just thinking what they did

ButterCrackers · 02/02/2024 15:57

It should have been a life sentence with no option of getting out.

clarepetal · 02/02/2024 15:59

Hope they stay in longer, that poor girl.

LSTMS30555 · 02/02/2024 16:00

@belvitas I might have missed that bit but the judge said Jenkinson told Dr church that she enjoyed the killing 😣 and other doctors from her unit said she lacked emotions and empathy (psychopathic) behaviour surely?

OP posts:
Samcro · 02/02/2024 16:01

i hope they never come out. poor Brianna.

They said that since conviction, there had been the discovery of a "kill list" in Scarlett's secure unit, containing the names of staff etc. that she would like to target.

itsgettingweird · 02/02/2024 16:07

I've just got in from work. Where can I watch/listen to the judgement.

I'm glad though it's representative of the threat they pose.

And fair play to Brianna's mum for what's she said re the other parents and that they are grieving too. She's been an absolute moral tower of strength through this.

It’s on BBC News and the MEN.

They did get life sentences.
