Was it correct that the girl had been expelled from her previous school ?

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 02/02/2024 17:32

Didn't read expelled.... a managed move I believe

LSTMS30555 · 02/02/2024 17:35

Yes a final chance after she had drugged another student with a cannabis edible

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 02/02/2024 17:47

Her headteacher explained the circumstances. There was a video of her speaking on tiktok

HowDoTheyGetThroughLife · 02/02/2024 17:48

Good. The bastards deserve it.

I thought there might be a little more difference in the sentences, listening to the judge's foreword. It sounded to me as if even she had found it all very upsetting.

Dreadful for all concerned, no family should have to listen to that detail on their poor child.

I did too! The judge was very good in her statement, but I thought Scarlett was going to get a longer minimum term than she actually did from what the judge was saying

MeinKraft · 02/02/2024 17:51

I listened to this on the radio, the judge sounded close to tears at some points. Scarlett sounds evil through and through, how upsetting for all 3 families involved.

35965a · 02/02/2024 17:53

They’re both very scary people but that Scarlett is absolutely chilling

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/02/2024 17:57

And on licence for life so recall at any time after they are released

MariaLuna · 02/02/2024 18:04

Absolutely chilling. That poor child.

It beggars belief (to me) that such young people can be such cold-blooded killers.

As well as all the knife crime going on, I despair really....

cakeorwine · 02/02/2024 18:12

What drives someone to do what they did? I don't think we can ever understand that.

I can't imagine what Brianna's families are going through. RIP

ASwimADay · 02/02/2024 18:16

It's a minimum term so they'd are absolutely no guarantees they will be released after that time.

I would be very surprised if the girl in particular was ever released.

StrawberryJellyBelly · 02/02/2024 18:18

Will she be in prison or someplace like Broadmoor

theDudesmummy · 02/02/2024 19:21

@StrawberryJellyBelly

There doesn't seem to be any evidence that she would be detainable under the Mental Health Act (and she hasn't been so far), so prison (secure unit or YOI) for now, not hospital (she would not go to Broadmoor as a child anyway). That could of course change if she became mentally ill at any stage, if she was deemed detainable she would then be transferred to a hospital.

I watched the judges verdict on sky news in full. She was very clear on everything and delivered her decision in the best manner possible for such a heinous crime. If anyone has a few mins to give up then I urge you to watch or listen to her in her entire verdict. She made it very clear what she was basing her terms on and she did such a great job at it. I know that is her job but this murder was just so chilling and she had to say it all in front of the victims parents.

I heard it on the radio. She was excellent

I recently read a book by an Old Bailey judge and the process of sentencing that well is something

They did get life sentences.

No - They got 20 and 22yrs. Thats not a life sentence at all. It should be for their whole life.

Judges can only impose the sentences laid down by statute.

The judge imposes a life sentence and determines a tariff.

The judge imposes a life sentence and determines a tariff.

Then it should not be called a life sentence because it’s not for life.

It's unjustifiable to give every murderer a whole life tariff.

murasaki · 02/02/2024 22:21

When /if they are released, they will be on license for the rest of their lives and can be recalled.
It is a life sentence with a tariff for imprisonment.

StrongandNorthern · 02/02/2024 22:30

TheShellBeach · 02/02/2024 16:11

They did get life sentences.

Ghoulish.
They are all someone's kids - perpetrators and victims.
Think about that.
