I hate myself and my size. Shock of my life. I'm a lard arse.

I got weighed last night. I'm 14stones 11pounds and 5feet 1 and a half. I should be just below 9stones. I'm embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I've had my head in the sand over this for a long time.

I have aches and pains and get breathless going uphill and flights of stairs. I look like a teletubby.

I'm doing the giving up for lent thing seriously this year. No sweets cakes fizzy drinks or rubbish for 40 days then I'll address it seriously.

I'm terrified it's going to be so tough.

Sounds like your thoughts are running through my head.

dont wait for lent it will never happen start now.

have you found the root cause to your eating habits, mine is boredom and so I find if my hands are busy I don’t crave as much.

WagyuBeef · 02/02/2024 13:47

Low carb plus wegovy and the weight will fly off

Lampzade · 02/02/2024 13:52

Don’t wait for Lent
Start with a twenty minute walk ( Daily)
Small changes like cutting out the fizzy drinks and cakes
Low carb

PutMyFootIn · 02/02/2024 13:53

Honestly, just get weight loss surgery.

NotFastButFurious · 02/02/2024 13:53

No need to go low carb if you stick to a healthy balanced diet with a sensible number of calories and do some exercise!

Honestly, just get weight loss surgery.

Really? That's the only possible option you can suggest to the OP?

PutMyFootIn · 02/02/2024 14:00

It is. I speak from experience. What's your advice?

OpenEvening · 02/02/2024 14:01

My colleague has lost 6 stone in 6 months doing intermittent fasting and low (not ‘no’) carb.

Ineedanewsofa · 02/02/2024 14:05

you can’t hate yourself thinner
concentrate on what you are adding (more veg, more fruit, more water, more exercise) rather than what to take away
if weight creeps on, it’s probably only going to creep off - make changes that you can sustain forever

Reduce calorie intake and get more active even if it's just going for a half hour walk every day.
Try out a fitness class and make it sociable.
Try out personal training.
Look for what triggers you to eat what you eat and when you eat it.
Try reading the book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear and start forming good small habits that will build up to a big change.

Weight loss surgery only works if the person learns to change their eating habits.

TheaBrandt · 02/02/2024 14:08

Intermittent fasting worked for me. Just stop eating all the time basically. Have small healthy lunch and dinner and up exercise. Lost 2 stone now in healthy bmi have been since 2019

Brawcolli · 02/02/2024 14:11

Agree with pp that it’s not necessary to do low carb if you count calories/ reduce portion sizes. Lots of people find low carb unsustainable in my experience. I’m vegan so pretty high carb and lost 4 stone just walking every day and reducing calories in general.

I really agree with this.
I've always been naturally slim until the peri menopause.
It was a shock starting to put weight on. I dieted and lost it and then over the next year put it on again.
But I'm now working on a more basic reset, focusing on eating and drinking enough healthy foods. Something sustainable for the next life phase.

Yes, good idea and it might work.

Viviennemary · 02/02/2024 14:15

You need to get yourself on a sensible diet. Maybe join a slimming group. There is no point in self hatred. You are worth more than that.

CaptinKitty · 02/02/2024 14:15

Second Wegovy. I started at the same height as you and weighing in at 16st 8 at the end of March last year.

Just over 4 stone lost since then and it has been life changing. No food noise, no obsessing over what I can and can’t eat, no feeling restricted, no hating myself. Just a steady 1-2lbs loss at a healthy pace.

What happens when you stop taking it? Can you stop taking it?

loveyouradvice · 02/02/2024 14:21

You've taken the first step - recognising what you are weighing and wanting to change it. Congrats!!!

Don't stop now - start doing things, however small to improve the situation while you really care about it.

I'm another Intermittent faster - two huge benefits - it helps get rid of aches and pains as body heals itself in the long fasting window AND for me, I feel full as I eat largish meals just less of them.

Come and join us - start reading up about it - and Yes, needs serious investment of time and energy and reading threads on here is a great motivator so suggest you invest an hour or so a day doing so to keep you moving forward

Good luck - and well done

Scorchio84 · 02/02/2024 14:21

Would one of those low calorie meal/shake plans work for you? Even just for the short term to get you started & give you the boost/motivation to keep going on a healthier, more balanced diet? They are really tough but they work, I've lost most of the stone & a half I put on last year in a few weeks

CaptinKitty · 02/02/2024 14:27

Oakbeam · 02/02/2024 14:19

For weight loss, you stop once you reach your goal weight. For me, (after discussing with my friend who is a GP), I plan to continue taking it on a low dose as maintenance .

Obviously it’s like any other weight loss tool, if you don’t change your Habits long term, the weight will come back on. For me, removing all the emotional drivers for food has given me the breathing brain space to really examine how, what and why I eat and embed those changes.

Drudgeryofthissocalledlife · 02/02/2024 14:37

You could join one of the weightloss threads on here. They tend to keep you accountable and people can be really supportive towards one and other.

I've found what works for me and its just being under maintenance calories. I'm losing 1kg per month, which is not a lot in the dieting world, but over a year its 12kg (nearly 2 stone). I'd rather do it slowly and get used to that level of eating than go on hard work diets. I find it's better for my mental health as well. Being hungry is a terrible affliction 😂

I'm suggesting slow and steady wins the race. 🐌

You still have to lose weight beforehand though.

I didn't. Am assuming you're talking about the liver reduction diet? Not all surgeons ask you to do that. Mine didn't.

bahhamburgers · 02/02/2024 14:49

You can do it if you get into the right mindset.

I’ve lost 10 and a half stone now (I was 23 stone) and still going.

I had to change everything though. My entire mindset around food. I had a massive health scare and believe me, it focused me. There is no going back now to the way I used to eat/drink 3 years ago. I’ve not lost this weight by being on a “diet” with an endpoint, this is me now. I sound like a wanker, I know, but I changed almost everything about myself and what I thought.

Talktometellmeyourname · 02/02/2024 14:53

Some of the advice on here is shocking. Weigh loss surgery, wegovy? You don’t need that op, pop your details into a TDEE calculator and give calorie counting ago. Yes you have to cut down but you don’t have to cut out. And try and up your steps.
i’ve lost 5 stone doing this.
Good luck, you can do it.
