Maple syrup

I recently bought a bottle for a recipe but had forgotten how stunning maple syrup actually is. Save drinking it directly from the bottle, does anyone have any really good recipes? I'm partial to a savory/sweet combo so not just desserts!

@Higgldy maple mustard glazed ham, loads of recipes, I actually cook the ham, remove the fat, then slice it completely before bathing it, yes, literally bathing it layer by layer in a baking dish, glaze then ham, glaze then ham. None of this only on the edge attitude. Serve with crunchy roast potatoes and veg. Then fridge the left overs, we always buy either 2 hams or one large enough, and have it warmed through on part baked baguettes with some of the saved glaze to dip your decadent sandwich in.

As a side note we visited a maple syrup farm in New England in the US, very interesting how they collect it, not as mad as how they harvest cranberries though and bounce then to check their quality. That was a great holiday.

It's lovely in salad dressing. Similar vibe to honey. Ottolenghi uses it in lots of recipes.

Glaze butternut squash with it before roasting. Add to yogurt at breakfast.

I love it drizzled over plain greek yogurt. It's fantastic in baking, I had a piece of maple pecan pie once which was lush.

MrsBobtonTrent · 01/02/2024 22:44

The only rational use for maple syrup is drizzled over bacon on top of French toast.

BruceAndNosh · 01/02/2024 22:47

Pour it over breakfast bacon!

Roasted fruit - pears and nectarine or peaches. Cut into wedges. Mix couple of tbspoons white wine and maple syrup to glaze fruit. Roast for 15 mins. Add halved figs and roast for another 10 mins. Serve with creme fraiche.

ConcertaFirstTimer · 01/02/2024 22:55

Maple porridge with blueberries and finely chopped toasted pecans. Or swap the porridge for thick Greek yoghurt.

Drizzled over scotch pancakes with crispy streaky bacon, US style.

Maple glazed ham is nice.

Drizzled over warm banana bread.

On pancakes with whipped cream

toss carrots in it with butter and salt

make caramel sauce with it

substitute for golden syrup in flapjacks

yum

Walking2024now30days · 01/02/2024 23:18

On crumpets

with cheese

warmed & served to dip French toast

surely googling recipes with maple syrup would have loads!!

twobluechickens · 01/02/2024 23:20

Similar to @SeaToSki , mix it with mustard and salt and use it to glaze parsnips before roasting.

Although tbh I just pour spoonfuls of it and savour it. So delicious.

winniethepooped · 01/02/2024 23:22

Ooooh what a good thread. It's delicious!

Do you ever order "pancakes with bacon and maple syrup" (as stated word for word on menu!) at a cafe and it comes with GOLDEN SYRUP!! Or worse still Maple FLAVOURED syrup!!!?

My sister and I joke about boycotting lying cafes like this!!

Recently had a bagel with cream cheese, bacon and drizzled in maple syrup was YUM 🤤

DiscoBeat · 01/02/2024 23:25

My husband makes lovely waffles. Delicious with maple syrup and blueberries.

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/02/2024 23:38

I use it as a sauce with ice cream.

LoreleiG · 01/02/2024 23:41

I use it on, waffles, pancakes, vanilla ice cream, plain yoghurt, drizzled on a fruit salad, porridge, rice pudding.

SeaToSki · 01/02/2024 23:42

And dont accept substitutes .. maple flavored rubbish..yuck (yes American spellings as I live in a State that makes maple syrup!)

soupmaker · 01/02/2024 23:43

I make sweet and salty popcorn using rock salt and maple syrup. Delicious

MonsteraMama · 01/02/2024 23:44

Maple bacon pancakes are the breakfast of kings.

Maple and chilli glazed carrots and parsnips are gorgeous and always an addition to our roast dinners now.

And if you're partial to a bit of cheese, a nice Brie or aged Gouda on a cracker with a drizzle of maple syrup and a scrunch of smoked salt is heaven.

Notthatcatagain · 01/02/2024 23:51

Brown 2 slices of bread in the same toaster slot, layer bread (untoasted side up, butter, sliced ripe banana, crispy bacon, generous amount of maple syrup then the last slice of toast, buttered of course. On a Sunday its quite OK to replace butter with extra syrupif on low fat diet

NewName24 · 01/02/2024 23:53

Cook pancake
Pour maple syrup
Eat

Synergies · 01/02/2024 23:53

As a Canadian I can suggest:

Drizzled on vanilla ice cream

Drizzled on French toast / pancakes

Drizzled on roasted veg (carrots, parsnips, squash).

Drizzled on roasted ham.

Just keep drizzling...

LoreleiG · 01/02/2024 23:57

I reckon it would be nice drizzled over Brie on toast, or a goat’s cheese salad.

Haggisfish3 · 01/02/2024 23:59

With Yorkshire pudding and ice cream.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 02/02/2024 00:05

In coffee

GrumpyPanda · 02/02/2024 00:10

I use it with all kinds of veg. Caramelize cubed celeriac with butter and maple syrup before braising in its own juice. Also goes well with all kinds of roasted cabbage. Carrots. Squash. Often combine maple syrup and sparingly used chili flakes.

DinnaeFashYersel · 02/02/2024 00:16

Drizzled over

Porridge
Pancakes
Vanilla ice cream
