Maple syrup

I recently bought a bottle for a recipe but had forgotten how stunning maple syrup actually is. Save drinking it directly from the bottle, does anyone have any really good recipes? I'm partial to a savory/sweet combo so not just desserts!

Another vote for parsnips with maple syrup.
I like it on weetabix with warm milk.

I LOVE Crumpets! Unfortunately I can't eat them (unless blindfolded! 🙈) because I have Trypophobia, I'm sure they're amazing with Maple Syrup because even just with butter they're divine 🙁

Edited

Oh no, that's terrible. No crumpet independence!!

can you butter them yourself? Or do you need someone to do that for you?

id have a wide slice band to pop over my eyes. (And if necessary a friend to come over for crumpet dates!!

@Fifthtimelucky I only have gravy with a roast dinner or with sausages and mash. The maple mustard glaze is indeed treated like a sauce for the rest of the meal. I think like you school put me off parsley sauce because it was a terribly made one. I might have to get brave and retry it but I would only have that with fish, not my ham. I know someone who has a roast dinner, with gravy and then covers it in tomato ketchup, such a strange combination.

I love maple glazed carrots and parsnips too but no one else in the house does.

Controversial choice…. But I really like it on cucumber. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.

@BassAce that's a leap of faith, but I'll try it & report back. Do you dip it or soak it?

@Scorchio84 put the topping on the bottom and eat them upside down.

You just might be a genius! Thank you 😍

We get through expensive gallons of it - I lived in New England briefly as a child resulting in a lifelong dependency which I’ve passed onto the DC. We have it on porridge, yoghurt and pancakes, but I also use it in stir fries to balance out spice/sour/salt - so with soy sauce, lime and chilli oil.

MrsCatE · 03/02/2024 00:15

As @soupmaker I use it with popcorn. Make popcorn, add Maldon sea salt. Meanwhile, warm loads of butter in a pan add maple syrup and pour over popcorn. Ensure loads of paper towels are at hand'

Salad dressing. Apple cider vinegar, maple, and olive oil. Delicious, especially over warm salads containing beans, chickpeas etc.

@TheOccupier I love the tin eats website.

HardStareBear · 03/02/2024 07:24

A bianca pizza topped with fennel sausage, smoked mozzarella, and maple syrup was one of my favourite things about a recent trip to Canada. I've just bought ingredients to try and recreate it at home.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 03/02/2024 07:59

Agree with PP, pure maple syrup from UK supermarkets is perfectly good, and I grew up in a maple syrup-producing part of the world.

https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/maple-pecan-pie/ I never use any other recipe. Definitely toast the nuts though

Also, if you find some snow you can make maple candy 😂

Sorry to post on an older thread.....anyone from the US Have a good Maple Syrup biscuit/cookie recipe with weights in grams/ozs?

I keep finding ones with cups and then depending on what page you open on Google the amount differ 🥴🤯

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 25/02/2024 17:58

@WhatsTheEffingPoint I don't make maple syrup cookies but am intrigued. Generally I convert a lot of recipes though and maple syrup is liquid cups so is easier to convert to ml, about 235ml to a cup, a tablespoon is about 15ml.

For flour and sugar I just google each one individually because those dry conversions vary, and usually note on a piece of scrap paper. For US butter measurements, a cup is two sticks which is a 250g block minus about 25g, hopefully that's helpful.

Edit to add: brush your measuring tool with a little neutral oil before using for the syrup, it will slide out easily, no scraping or waste. This works for honey and nut butters too.

Quizine · 25/02/2024 18:09

Is it better or just as bad in the long run as sugar?

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 25/02/2024 18:17

@Quizine I don't think it's any healthier, it just has a nice flavour.

TeenLifeMum · 25/02/2024 18:27

I’ve just added maple syrup to my shop 😂

hellswelshy · 25/02/2024 18:30

This thread is divine, I feel starving now though 😄

PeridotSparkle · 25/02/2024 22:06

Pancakes & waffles obs
But yes I could totally just drink it! 🤣

PeridotSparkle · 25/02/2024 22:07

Drizzle on baked root veg
Add to home made granola

JobMatch3000 · 25/02/2024 22:16

When people say "drizzle" they mean "pour", right?
