What's your dream job?

overthinkersanonnymus · 01/02/2024 20:38

I work in finance and I bloody hate it!! It's so stressful and all I'm doing is making other people rich.

My absolute dream job is to be a midwife. I'm absolutely fascinated by pregnancy and birth.

Unfortunately I'm too old and skint to go to university 😩

It's a nice daydream 😌

My neighbour is a postie and he says there's such a shortage atm as they are all off on stress!

All off on stress isn’t a good sign!
We only get 2 postal deliveries a week, I thought it was mostly down to the fact that people get less post than years ago.
I remember when I was a kid we used to get 2 post deliveries a day.
Sadly looking at the wages for a full time postie I’m not prepared to take a cut but maybe once all of mine have finished uni…
I just like being outside 😂

ExpectantEs · 01/02/2024 23:58

A talk show host or producing the music that goes behind movies lol

But I work in IT!

Highrisk · 02/02/2024 00:00

I’d like to raise orphan kittens from home.

MeridaofClanDunBroch · 02/02/2024 00:00

Lighthouse keeper.

Daddysgirl47 · 02/02/2024 00:07

I’d love to be a wedding planner, part time of course because in dream land I’d have staff and we’d specialise in (hot) destination weddings in the Mediterranean.

SuperBored · 02/02/2024 00:08

Dominatrix. Being able to say exactly what I want to people without people complaining I am too assertive or direct and getting paid for it (probably more than I currently am paid) and not having to put up with people half arsing their jobs and then trying to shift the blame to me would be lovely.

Boomboom22 · 02/02/2024 00:18

@Marchintospring but do they know of your dream? Surely your siblings in law would not be so cruel as to put their toast racks monetary value ahead of such an amazing idea?
I think you should tell your mil now so she can write it into her will as a request, my dil to have all my toast racks on condition of running a museum for children.

LaPalmaLlama · 02/02/2024 02:46

I’ve always secretly fancied being a bounty hunter but in real life I’d be shit at it because I’m really conflict adverse so I’d be like “I’m sorry I kicked your door in. Not sure if you forgot but you’re up on 86 charges today and you’re running late. Would you mind coming to the court with me? Only if you want to though” 🤣

piscofrisco · 02/02/2024 06:17

Florist or shop window designer/stager.

StarlightLady · 02/02/2024 07:38

Dream job? Vibrater satisfaction tester! And you could work from home too. 😆

lollipoprainbow · 02/02/2024 07:39

Florist

MissMelanieH · 02/02/2024 07:40

I'd like to be a casting agent for a TV or film company. I quite often "people watch" and imagine who I'd cast as characters from books I'm reading.

I'd love to own a chateau, restore it and run an events business. Within this there would be a bookshop, upholstry workshops, cafe etc. Would have staff so I could swan about and 'supervise'.

So you want to be Angel? Me too!
Or a saddler. Or get paid to read books.

My mother in law collects toast racks. When she goes I would love to run a totally pointless toast rack museum in France. A toast rack assault course for the kids outside , different themed walks showcasing the toast racks and a lovely cafe/ shop with toast and jams of many types.
Unfortunately her actual children want to sell the lot because it’s worth a bit. Bastards.

This is my winner! 😁

BitOutOfPractice · 02/02/2024 07:46

Hosting a history podcast.

PixiePirate · 02/02/2024 07:49

I’d like to be a restorer in The Repair Shop. I’d waft about all day in the blissfully calm and serene barn, making people feel happy by restoring their treasures. I’d also enjoy perving over Will Kirk.

I am a midwife and although it isn't some amazing lifelong dream. It was something when I was looking for a new career I thought would be interesting and I would be good at, I now wouldn't do anything else for any amount of money. It is the best job I could ever imagine. Definitely love it and my dream job.

I was a call centre manager before. Better hours, better money. But I hated it!

One of my students at the moment is in her 50s. More financial help than you might think!

@00deed1988 I'm so jealous!!

And you get a uniform so you don't have to think about what you're wearing everyday!! I hate having to do that 🤣

I love the repair shop but I don't think I'd like to work there because I imagine it being drafty and cold, and there might be spiders!🤣

Yonjovi · 02/02/2024 09:42

A detective. Love a bit of true crime. I don't like the dark though, so I can only solve daytime crimes.
I actually worked as a fashion designer for 15 years which was always my dream job, never felt like a job and then I had kids and didn't want to work 24/7 or travel. Now I've retrained in something different.
I always envisaged I'd have different careers! Why not chop and change. Don't think the detective thing is going to work out though.

XmasCrumble · 02/02/2024 10:18

I'd like to design the Xmas range for M&S

Or be an author (but an anonymous one where I didn't have to market my books in public)

Or a food critic

Lovemusic82 · 02/02/2024 10:33

I have several things I would like to do (ADHD so my mind changes a lot) 🤣

I would like to work in a funeral directors.
Run a garden centre.
Run a food van.
Be a zoo keeper.

Bringbackspring · 02/02/2024 10:38

In recent years I decided I'd like to be a mountain walking guide as where I live that is a genuine possibility, I am quite good at navigation, courses are in abundance around here and I love hiking. However, I then thought I'd actually hate moaning clients who didn't realise we might get bad weather, or didn't realise they would actually be walking up hill. All of that would ruin my love of the outdoors. Plus I myself don't like walking in the rain or the fog so I'd be wanting to cancel all the time 😂I ruined my own dream by thinking it through to reality!

beguilingeyes · 02/02/2024 10:49

Backing singer for Pink Floyd. I think that ship has pretty much sailed and now I'm too old/not glamorous enough to do BVs.

Buttheywereonlysatellites51 · 02/02/2024 11:14

That's it @reesewithoutaspoon! That would be my dream too!
