What's your dream job?

I work in finance and I bloody hate it!! It's so stressful and all I'm doing is making other people rich.

My absolute dream job is to be a midwife. I'm absolutely fascinated by pregnancy and birth.

Unfortunately I'm too old and skint to go to university 😩

It's a nice daydream 😌

Can’t imagine anything worse than running a book shop or tea room or similar personally.

I want to be a public sector chief exec. 😁

Bernadinetta · 01/02/2024 22:14

Author/writer

LollipopViolet · 01/02/2024 22:15

Figure skating coach. Specialising in teaching adults, and children and adults with additional needs.

I am actually going to start on the path to this later this year, all being well.

I want one of those £100k jobs from that thread where you only have to be on standby, no real work.

🤣

reesewithoutaspoon · 01/02/2024 22:17

Working in a theatre, in costume design, alternatively would love to have the skills to do art conservation and restoration

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/02/2024 22:17

Making up languages for fantasy films! I'm a languages teacher. I'd never really thought about the fact that the job existed until I was looking up what dd could do with her linguistics degree. I'm not sure if I could do it, but it sounds amazing!

Failing that, it would be nice if someone would pay me to just learn language after language!

Vicliz24 · 01/02/2024 22:20

I'd love to be a set designer. Or have a beautiful jewellery shop on a Greek island.

Seasaltsquall · 01/02/2024 22:20

A smallholder with a spare field that I could rent out privately to dog owners. And an animal behaviourist.

SarahAndQuack · 01/02/2024 22:21

Mine.

I work in a plant nursery.

Wouldn't mind a bit more financial security, though, and the idea of owning/running a small garden centre brings me out in a cold sweat.

I loved my previous job too - I was an academic in English Lit, and that was so much fun and so rewarding.

I honestly can't think of other things I'd rather do.

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 01/02/2024 22:23

I'd love to own a chateau, restore it and run an events business. Within this there would be a bookshop, upholstry workshops, cafe etc. Would have staff so I could swan about and 'supervise'.

Plumtop11 · 01/02/2024 22:23

I'd have loved to be an archaeologist

WishesPromises · 01/02/2024 22:23

Anonymously writing a pithy weekly column for the weekend Times or Guardian.

Tiredandbored · 01/02/2024 22:24

I would love to work as a trouble-shooting PA for a high-flying boss who needs me to step in and arrange whatever it takes to get the job done. I'd be so good at my job she would pay me loads and I'd get to accompany her on her travels, enjoy all the luxuries, but ultimately not have the stress of actually being responsible for the business. In the background, but the person she turns to anytime she needs a tricky challenge sorted.

Would earn enough to retire early (thinking mid 40s) and then continue to travel and live that lifestyle but be able to have time to write an insider's tell-all view of what actually goes on behind the scenes in big business and make another mint from that.

Anobody1 · 01/02/2024 22:26

Study tropical medicine

dottiedodah · 01/02/2024 22:27

Would have loved to be a Nurse.became a nursery nurse.if a more glam role maybe a theatre actress.

aveline161 · 01/02/2024 22:31

Genealogist. Did my own and cracked a really tough mystery and loved it. Or failing that the cold case archeologist type person mentioned above! Or failing that something in food history

Nogodsnomasters · 01/02/2024 22:33

I'd love to own a second hand book shop.

Marchintospring · 01/02/2024 22:33

My mother in law collects toast racks. When she goes I would love to run a totally pointless toast rack museum in France. A toast rack assault course for the kids outside , different themed walks showcasing the toast racks and a lovely cafe/ shop with toast and jams of many types.
Unfortunately her actual children want to sell the lot because it’s worth a bit. Bastards.

SunflowerSeeds123 · 01/02/2024 22:35

Librarian.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 01/02/2024 22:37

I used to work in a bank. My dream job was to be a nurse. After my third child was born I went back into education and then secured a place to train as a nurse. I found out that I loved studying and I now have a diploma, a degree and a post grad in teaching. I consider myself very lucky that I got to pursue my dream.

LenaLamont · 01/02/2024 22:38

Columnist for a national paper - I know I'm not in the 0.2% of journalist/writers who could do it, but I would love that.

Failing that, curator or archivist.

Mimami · 01/02/2024 22:39

Tour guide

Malbecmama · 01/02/2024 22:40

I'd like to be a social worker. Can't afford to go to uni now. I already work in a welfare role, but I think I could really make a difference on the frontline.

CaptainPliskin · 01/02/2024 22:57

to be honest im not sure

00deed1988 · 01/02/2024 23:01

I am a midwife and although it isn't some amazing lifelong dream. It was something when I was looking for a new career I thought would be interesting and I would be good at, I now wouldn't do anything else for any amount of money. It is the best job I could ever imagine. Definitely love it and my dream job.

I was a call centre manager before. Better hours, better money. But I hated it!

One of my students at the moment is in her 50s. More financial help than you might think!
