Ideas for London Theatre show for DS age 13

We're coming to London in April and would love to see a show but not sure which one to go for. My DS is age 13 but he's fairly mature and into more grown up themes. Any recommendations? We've seen Wicked, The Bodyguard, The Lion King etc and while I loved the big name shows, I wouldn't mind checking out some less well known ones too.

I’m not sure when it closes but Little Big Things is incredible.

My DC (and me!) absolutely love Hamilton as well.

My 16 year old DD was desperate to see Hadestown at the Lyric. We're off at half term!

There’s a lot of buzz about Hadestown, though I haven’t seen it myself (yet).
Hamilton is obviously very big and an excellent show with a modern take on the music and dance.
The Guys and Dolls revival looks excellent.
I really want to see Standing At The Sky’s Edge but it might be a bit gritty/sweary for a 13yr old.

Hamilton!

The Play that goes Wrong at The Duchess theatre .

JassyRadlett · 29/01/2024 17:59

My 12yo (and I) both love Operation Mincemeat.

Also agree on The Play that Goes Wrong, and DS1 also loved Hamilton. I'm looking forward to Hadestown.

SIx the Musical!
No doubt. Went with 25 yo daughter and there were lots of teens with their mums or friends. It's a bit mature in content if you listen really carefully but no worse than anything you'd hear in the charts. And visually great, with strong female characters, cast and musicians.
Go!

Oh wait - it's your son! I mean he might love Six too. But perhaps Hamilton. Also banging!

EasternStandard · 29/01/2024 18:04

Ds loved Hamilton at the same age

Bsmirched · 29/01/2024 18:06

Another vote for The Play that Goes Wrong here!

PrawnDumplings · 29/01/2024 18:06

Dear England if it's still on. Fantastic theatre!

LoreleiG · 29/01/2024 18:07

Everyone’s talking about Jamie is great. Come from Away is supposed to be great too. If they are on in London. Or Hamilton.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 29/01/2024 18:08

Hamilton! Planning to take my DS 12 this year too

Westfacing · 29/01/2024 18:10

Hamilton & Dear England

pharmachameleon · 29/01/2024 18:16

Thanks so much everyone. None of these were on my radar (apart from Hamilton) so I'll check them out.

Dismaljanuary · 29/01/2024 18:20

@Newgirls why standing.. Won't that be hard going?

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 29/01/2024 18:22

Back to the future.

Standing at the skys edge is meant to be amazing and opens again in Feb (transferred from elsewhere)

Little big things

LittleMonks11 · 29/01/2024 18:25

Stranger Things

Bilingualspingual · 29/01/2024 18:33

Guys and Dolls is completely wonderful. @Dismaljanuary standing because you’re right within the action and the set moves up and down so you’re looking up and watching the actors - I’m explaining it badly but it’s really thrilling.

It's an immersive set, so you really want to be standing :)

I concur with Hamilton, Play That Goes Wrong (which is excellent) and Six.

JulesJules · 29/01/2024 18:51

Guys and Dolls is my favourite musical so I'd always recommend that, haven't seen the new revival (I would love to) - it's had excellent reviews

JollyHostess101 · 29/01/2024 18:54

Hamilton or Six for me!!

Come from Far Away is epic too but that’s closed and is touring if you could catch it locally!!
