Ideas for London Theatre show for DS age 13

We're coming to London in April and would love to see a show but not sure which one to go for. My DS is age 13 but he's fairly mature and into more grown up themes. Any recommendations? We've seen Wicked, The Bodyguard, The Lion King etc and while I loved the big name shows, I wouldn't mind checking out some less well known ones too.

Just because it's on the radio..Abba voyage. Or the stranger things play is excellent according to my DH.

Another for Operation Mincemeat - much loved by my DDs - only one they wanted to see twice!

ToWorkOrNotToWork · 29/01/2024 18:57

My 12 yo loved The Play That Went Wrong.

Or you could do a ghosts and ghouls tour of the Globe theatre - it’s only an hour long and is cheap! Compared to a London theatre ticket

Our teens all loved Back to the Future

PodcastIdeas · 29/01/2024 19:07

Stranger Things, The Play That Goes Wrong (teen almost wet himself laughing), Hamilton or Six for me too!

Tommydoes · 29/01/2024 19:09

Hamilton or Mrs Douthfire

pharmachameleon · 29/01/2024 19:12

Thanks all.
@ToWorkOrNotToWork that's a brilliant idea-I'll get that booked.

The standing tickets at guys and dolls are interactive and you’re part of the show. It’s fun honestly - for that age anyway!

SweetDreamsAreMadeOf · 29/01/2024 19:24

The War of the Worlds immersive experience! It's brilliant.

Clearinguptheclutter · 29/01/2024 19:24

Mine are slightly younger but we’re going to see Back to the future

yodaforpresident · 29/01/2024 19:30

Hadestown is amazing. Also, Back to the Future and Six. Dear Evan Hansen is coming back later this year too.

My ds 12 (almost 13) would recommend Hamilton, Operation Mincemeat or the The Play That Goes Wrong.

DamnAllTheJellyfish · 29/01/2024 20:07

Does he like harry potter? We thought the cursed child was amazing! My ds watched it at age 13 and is a big Harry potter fan but I'm not and I loved it just as much as he did.

I think your DS and my DS would get on 😁

@JassyRadlett we're off to see Operation Mincemeat again next month - we love it!

Check out the Polka theatre in Wimbledon

Donotgogentle · 29/01/2024 21:05

Another vote for Stranger Things if your DC is a fan.

Frozen was a surprise hit with my teenage DS, mainly because of the nostalgia I think.

Hamilton is also a good one for that age group.

DaffodilCharm · 29/01/2024 21:23

If you’ve mostly done musicals I’d say The Play That Goes Wrong as a change and because it’s so good.

TempleOfBloom · 29/01/2024 21:28

Operation Mincemeat

mummyof2boys30 · 29/01/2024 21:56

Back to the future. We have been 3 times

cardibach · 29/01/2024 22:53

It’s usually possible to get reasonably priced tickets but you could wait and try Today Tix app if you aren’t committed to one particular show.

Wanttobeok · 29/01/2024 23:06

Ds same age wants to see Hamilton, Six and Mean Girls

My 12yo (and I) both love Operation Mincemeat.

Also agree on The Play that Goes Wrong, and DS1 also loved Hamilton. I'm looking forward to Hadestown.

My Ds15 and I thought the same re Operation Mincemeat. Was a bit sceptical for the first 10 mins but then we LOVED it. Very clever and funny, but also moving in places.

yodaforpresident · 30/01/2024 08:38

Yes to cursed child (I had forgotten that was still on!) - long though.
