Ideas for London Theatre show for DS age 13

We're coming to London in April and would love to see a show but not sure which one to go for. My DS is age 13 but he's fairly mature and into more grown up themes. Any recommendations? We've seen Wicked, The Bodyguard, The Lion King etc and while I loved the big name shows, I wouldn't mind checking out some less well known ones too.

Stranger things is supposed to be good and might appeal

Stranger things was amazing. Really incredible set and lighting.
Cursed Child too. Probably would help to be a fan of the tv show / books / film to warrant a trip to either show!

Guys and Dolls is brilliant

Mine is going to see Back To the Future soon, that looks fantastic!

Hamilton is on Disney + so you can check it out on there to see if you like it

I did not like it

DD15 (nearly 16) is now old enough to go into the west end on her own and is going to Hadestown with a friend at Feb half term.

I spent a very stressful half hour buying the tickets many months ago.

That said, she is a theatre musical geek and so her choices might be a little left field.

She likes things that are 'off broadway' hits and word of mouth stuff with performers you or I won't have heard of!

Mrs Doubtfire is great.

Thanks everyone. We've seen Hamilton twice on Disney plus so he's not keen on that. And though he loves HP books I don't think he'll be up for The Cursed Child. I'll all home though.
I'll def get that ticket today app. Tickets are so expensive! Looking like £450 for 3 of us!

Re prices, it depends on the seats you want.

DD goes to 8 or 10 shows and plays a year and is content in the £20 seats. Thank goodness!

Restricted views rarely are restricted unless for a small child.

alwaysonadiet1 · 30/01/2024 13:46

The interactive Guys and Dolls tickets are good value. About £45 each ish.

Based on your updates I would say Operation Mincemeat is the best choice. It’s brilliant!

How? I’ve never paid more than £50 for a ticket in the West End! You don’t need ‘good’ tickets. The view is good from everywhere (unless it actually says it’s restricted).

pharmachameleon · 30/01/2024 15:02

@cardibach really? My DH is bloody obsessed with getting a good seat 🙄 It means our tickets are always a fortune and puts me off buying a ticket in the first place.
I've just booked Come From Away (with £40 seats!) as it's touring near us in Sept. Looks great.

Back to the Future - saw this in December. Really good - the effects are AMAZING!

Come From Away is fabulous.
I never get good seats. Someone bought me one once and it was t any better than the cheaper ones really. For some shows I think being higher is an advantage to see the patterns on stage (Hamilton for one). Really though, I’d rather see more shows with a less good seat than one in a blue moon.

Totally agree. I go to the theatre all the time and pretty much always cheap seats so I can see everything I want.

On most ticketing websites now you can click to see the view from the seats too. I always get on the aisle in case it’s a bit cramped. I have a knee issue and my husband sciatica so we’ve occasionally had to leave early if the seats were too cramped but even if we were to do that 1 in 5 times we’d still save loads!

cardibach · 30/01/2024 15:58

I have the ‘need to sit on the correct aisle for a dodgy knee’ constraint too @Isitisit !
Cheap seats are the best.
