Sick to death of dogs

Went to the beach today with dh and dd1.

Got jumped on by a dog off its lead. Owner said "oh. Sorry"

Two dogs ran up to us and started growling and snapping at me and dd who was playing on the sand.

Another dog ran up to us, had no idea what it's intentions were!

All off lead, all owners using their baby voices "don't do that Fido darling!"

Dog shit bags everywhere despite their being loads of bins and even free dog bags!

Absolutely so fed up of entitled dog owners and their nasty little dogs.

I can just imagine what people would say if I let my toddler run up to them and put his mucky, chocolate covered hands all over their clean clothes.

’Sorry love, if you don’t like toddlers, don’t come here”.

Absolutely!

Thinking a pet should be kept at home does not equate to 'hatred' of animals. The hyperbole and stretching in your post says more about you than anything.
Also perhaps a child might be allergic and the nursery didn't know.

As I explained to you earlier, keeping a pet at home will not prevent someone who is allergic to dogs from having a reaction. I guess that's an inconvenient truth though when you're simply trying to berate people for allowing their dogs to leave their houses.

It makes me so angry that people push their own fears onto their children. You see it everyday, I’ve seen it with extended family members.
Usually due to some bad experience themselves (like the OP) they end up with a fear of all dogs. Sometimes though, let’s face it, it’s just that they hate animals. It’s then pushed onto the children

I agree and I have a little story to add.

DS used to go to a nursery next to a park ... you could park the car at one end and walk through to the nursery. Something most parents did.
Another parent and myself would bring our dogs along- all fine and well behaved.

There was one parent who insisted that the dogs should be on a lead when this parent & DC where around due to fear. No issues there, happy to comply. However I watched this parent push their DC away from dogs minding their own business on several occasions. So definitely some fear reaction from the parent.

Then the nursery had a Pet Week and I offered to bring my dog in. (DDog had a pets as therapy certificate). All lovely and good. The DC that was apparently afraid of dogs, sat with my dog the whole time! Loved cuddling and fussing the dog, it was actually lovely to see.

And I didn't quote your post, did I? I quoted DancefloorAcrobatics reply to JamJar59.

Nothing at all to do with you!

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/01/2024 16:25

As I always say to these threads.. yes, dogs should be on leads if the owners can’t control their dogs. And yes, all responsible owners should and would pick up after their dogs!

SoreAndTired1 · 30/01/2024 16:26

DancefloorAcrobatics · 30/01/2024 11:23

🤷🏻‍♀️ it's a public park. Why shouldn't I bring my dog along?

As for the nursery, I think it's lovely if they offer young children all kinds of experiences. In our case, this included being close up and personal with a well beahaved dog.
Ever heard of school dogs or reading dogs? My old girl did all that and more!
She made a lot of adults and children laugh, smile and happy. She reached out to people in a way no human ever could. But you wouldn't know and your poor DC will never experience the joy a pet can give.

You sound like the serotype parent that projects their fear and hatred of animals onto their DC.

See? NOTHING to do with you, @Moro93 . DancefloorAcrobatics reply to JamJar59. You are not referenced anywhere in it.

@SoreAndTired1 Oh, do grow up. DancefloorAcrobatics said to read her posts correctly, plural. Her first post was quoting mine about projecting fear onto children, saying she agreed. You maybe quoted a different reply, but I’m referring to a different one.

You're the one who has made the mistake, so I think you are the one who should grow up. I only quoted one (1) post. And it had nothing even remotely to do with you nor any reference to you. I did not quote your post, nor her reply to you. I ONLY quoted her reply to JamJar59.

So don't tell me to grow up because I am asserting my right to show you're wrong. It's my right to defend myself from your false accusations because you couldn't read the thread properly. Anyone falsely accused of something would defend themselves. If I wrongly accused you I am sure you would defend yourself. You didn't even have the decency to apologise to me, instead a surly 'grow up' comment, because you're not grown up enough to own your mistake, acknowledge it, and apologise. 'Grow up' says the one not grown up enough to admit their mistake and apologise. Oh the irony!

You said I quoted DancefloorAcrobatics who was referencing you.

As you can see, that is clearly not true.

I don't like being falsely accused. No one does, I don't think.

Anyway I'm going to Hide this thread now, I've really had enough. But it's solidified my belief about dog owners, that's for sure. Even screenshot a few of the batshit crazy ones. Seeya round.

To be fair, DancefloorAcrobatics could have been referring to either so maybe wires were crossed. They did originally quote my post, and they said read my posts which means not just the one you’re referring to.

Even if I was in the wrong, I won’t be apologising or I won’t be the bigger person. After all, I’m just a neanderthal, entitled, narcissistic dog owner so I may as well play up to the stereotype.

ThursdayTomorrow · 30/01/2024 16:53

I’m with you OP. People letting their dogs run up, jump up and bark in their faces, have given my children an intense fear of dogs.
It makes my blood boil when the owners say they are just being friendly.
We have had food taken from out of my kids hands, scratches on their legs, mud up their clothes, drool on their clothes and they have been bowled over like skittles.
Dogs should be on a lead unless in a paw paddock.
With the notable exception of assistance and working dogs, in these times of climate emergency, nooner should be getting a dog - they are a luxury the planet cannot afford.

Is your life that boring that you need to screenshot from here for talking points?

MotherOfCatBoy · 30/01/2024 17:01

Just this afternoon I was walking through a local park, watching a loose dog running like mad on the grass and interacting with other dogs. (I don’t have a dog). I was enjoying it as it looked so free and happy and playful. It started to play with a chocolate Labrador who belonged to different people, also off the lead. Both dogs excited. As I drew closer and passed the people, the lab jumped up on me in play, front paws at shoulder height (I’m about 5’4). I wasn’t frightened, I didn’t react, nothing happened, and it was fine - BUT, that absolutely should not have happened as the owners should have trained it never to jump on a human. The couple who owned it were totally ineffectual and I got a vague Sorry which I waved off and carried on my way. But it left me thinking, if I was smaller/ frailer/ older, it could have been really damaging. It just shouldn’t happen and it’s irresponsible. (It’s not being off leash I mind, it’s the lack of training).
Contrast that with meeting some working farm dogs last year, spaniels, who were in the back of a pick up when we were chatting to their owner, clearly interested and would like to say Hello, but although their eyes spoke volumes they didn’t move a muscle because they were well trained and did not react until we approached them and even then were very well behaved. The discipline is the difference - the recognition that you have a responsibility to train your animal.

How strange that these things only seem to happen multiple times a day to people who hate dogs.

I love dogs and actively seek out places where they might be and yet that sort of thing never happens to me..

DancefloorAcrobatics · 30/01/2024 15:05

@SoreAndTired1
@Funnywonder for reference, please read my posts correctly. I was referring to a previous poster about parental fear being projeced onto their children.

I your world, I am obviously not allowed to take my dog to a park... just in case someone has an allergy or is scared.

Newsflash: you are correct I give a shit, while I am using a public space where dogs on / off leash are allowed.

Why are you having a go at me? I was actually supportive of your comment about taking your dog to a prearranged nursery/school session. I didn't say a word about where you choose to walk your dog. I dunno - try to be nice and all that!

Why, because I called out someone who is picking and choosing comments that they want to try and use to slag people off?

You do know your comment will be deleted, right?

Moro93 · 30/01/2024 18:20

@JamJar59 And dogs aren’t repulsive just because you dislike them.
