Things I can't be bothered with and never have

Fake tan - never done it.
Fake eyelashes.
Thick foundation that you have to blend in at the neck and chest.
Any form of waxing especially fanny waxing.
Don't get me wrong, I like to look nice and get my hair done but honestly the state of some people now - they must spend hours/days on all that.

OP posts:

Thankfully I don't need fake tan, I have a naturally darker skin tone.

Never bothered with caked on make up, eyelash/eyebrow tints, teeth whitening, cheap fashion, keeping up with the Jones etc.

Also never taken a selfie whilst posing with that weird crinkly cat bum lip pout look on my face.

I'm definitely not high maintenance!

I do dye my hair and buy decent quality natural fibre clothes that are classic and last for years.

Jellykat · 28/01/2024 22:28

I have never -
Used Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok or Instagram
Worn heels
Had a credit card
Lived with a partner
Done any of the fake tan / botox/ waxing/ false eyelashes or nails type things.

Not because i think im better then others, but because i can be arsed, couldnt afford it, and live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by sheep and cows!

Interior design. I have a hard enough job with just putting stuff away and keeping things vaguely clean and tidy around the house; somehow having the right shape sofa and the right curtain heading seems like too much to deal with. Walls are white because then I don’t have to worry about them clashing with carpets and furniture we haven’t the funds to replace.

Head massages at the hairdresser. They do nothing for me except pull at my roots which really hurts.

Competitive sports. At 5ft 3 with short stumpy legs and a cosmetically corrected squint, I am built neither to win races nor to play ball games. I have as much chance of excelling at cricket or tennis as a Shetland pony does of winning the Grand National.

Some proper ‘pick me’ energy on this thread - some women thinking they’re better than other women because they don’t ‘plaster’ themselves in make up. It’s very “I’m not like other women” 🙄

Edited

I'm worried that your disdain for women who dislike lots of make up and fake tan etc is actually preventing others from speaking truthfully about their own feelings and is actually a thinly veiled misogynistic attempt to silence the opinion of women who don't wish to confirm to current mores of fashion. Quite shocked, actually.

biscuitnut · 28/01/2024 22:41

I have never publicly attacked other women for what they choose to do to make them feel good. Fillers and the like are not for me but I don’t judge other women who choose to have them. If I think something looks awful I keep that thought where it belongs - in my head.

NewYear24 · 28/01/2024 22:44

Ironing

What 'pick me' nonsense? Do you think men routinely 'pick' and advocate for women to be: not wearing make-up, not shaving, wearing comfortable not-tight clothes, comfortable in their body? On what basis do you base this understanding?

Woahtherehoney · 28/01/2024 22:53

@PriceMeByTheYard That’s what you got from my post?! Not at all did I express any disdain for women who don’t wear make up - I think women should choose to do whatever they want and not be shamed for it either way!

By pick me I’m not at all referring to men! I mean women who think they are better than others because of the choices they make - there a few posts on this thread that seem that way. Not wearing make up or not getting false nails doesn’t make you better than other women who do!

Plantmother71 · 28/01/2024 23:01

I don’t wear much makeup, have never liked fake lashes. I’m 52 though so I’ve had a little cosmetic help to my face. Just a bit of Botox - had a lifting and tightening treatment to my hands too. I enjoy getting my nails done. I don’t use fake tan as I naturally tan in the sun, though I’m pale in winter. I’ve had legs and ‘bits’ waxed. Doesn’t hurt as much as having four kids.

I like to try and stay looking well. It makes me feel good. And if someone else wants to do things to make themself feel good then I wouldn’t judge them for that.

If someone is happy being completely natural and doesn’t want to do any of these things then no judgement either. Whatever people are happy with.

My two youngest (yr 11 and lower sixth form) one is very natural and just gets her nails done. The other is focused on appearance, uses fake tan, likes nails and eyelashes. They’re like chalk and cheese. I think they’re beautiful just as they are but hey ho.

Seasaltsquall · 28/01/2024 23:02

My cleavage or breast size in general. No interest in showing it off, no interest or concern about size, what anyone else thinks etc, Can't understand the desire for anyone to have a boob job unless they were so big they caused pain. .

lovinglaughingliving · 28/01/2024 23:03

I absolutely adore a Hollywood wax, eyebrow and upper lip wax. The rest I shave.
(I absolutely HATE having hair on my body!)
Things I can't be bothered with:

  • wearing comfortable "fashionable" clothes.
  • Having my nails done or even painted
  • Make up/fake tan
  • Jewellery

I am not a very good woman really 😂

Plantmother71 · 28/01/2024 23:06

I really am obsessed with cleaning but I wish I could just ignore it and not have to do it as I feel it is all I do! Sharing a house with two adult kids, DP, and two teens doesn’t seem to have made it easier. Clothes everywhere, and there’s always bedding to wash and ironing to be done. Stopped ironing DPs clothes as it’s all shirts and I hate ironing those.

paisley256 · 28/01/2024 23:06

Fashion. I've never ever been bothered about trends/what's in or what's not. I like what I like and couldn't give a shit if it's not this seasons look.

Upwiththelark76 · 28/01/2024 23:09

I wear fake tan, sometimes fake lashes and always wear makeup I get my hair highlighted too . I’m 48 for reference

i don’t wash fruit and veg.
I also never taken any notice of bestbefore or use by dates . I’m still alive .
Also never been bothered to go into a costa or Starbucks never saw the appeal

MrsP80 · 28/01/2024 23:11

Ironing. We have one somewhere (belongs to dh, I've never used it for anything other than hama beads).
Instagram and tiktok - I don't understand them and decided I must be too old. Have just about mastered Facebook, twitter still confuses me.
Candles. I just don't see the appeal and can imagine me forgetting about it and burning the house down....

MrsP80 · 28/01/2024 23:14

And I ignore best before dates, anything with a useby gets the sniff test.

Goldbar · 28/01/2024 23:15

I don't know why some people are knocking fake tan. Never used it myself, but a fake tan is the surely the only tan anyone should be getting nowadays.

katseyes7 · 28/01/2024 23:26
  1. *Continue reading books that I am not enjoying, I give them a good crack at the whip, but I no longer feel guilty dropping them off at the charity shop unfinished.
  2. Drinking or eating anything I don't really like because public opinion thinks I should, most cake, cupcake, cheesecake is not for me.*

This. I used to soldier on, even if l was hating what l was reading, or found it boring. I used to feel guilty (daft, l know) for not finishing a book, but god, life's too short. I love a good book, especially the ones you can't put down.
Same with food, now. I went to our lovely local coffee shop last week and chose a slice of white chocolate and raspberry cake (which looked amazing) with my coffee. This was a rare treat, l can't usually justify spending money on stuff like that, but my car was in for an MOT and I had some time to kill.
The cake was nice, but very sweet and cloying. Not so long ago l'd have just thought, sod it, and finished it, but l didn't. I left the thick end of the wedge with the thickest bit of the icing.
Felt a bit guilty at wasting money, but at least it probably saved me a million calories.

I do all this apart from thick foundation. Do they still sell thick foundation? Maybe some of the cheaper brands.
Applying strip lashes takes about 3 seconds per eye. Fake tan takes as long as body lotion to put on- hardly any time at all.
It's fine to not be arsed with certain things but when they're exclusively things to do with women's appearances/personal choices regarding their appearance and those women are dismissed as 'looking like a state'....well that's one thing I can't be bothered with and never will. To answer your question :)

Nottodaty · 29/01/2024 00:42

I get my eyebrows waxed - 30 years of waxing them they still grow back as thick & messy - Covid was hard as trying to pluck them HURTS. Waxing hurts but it’s all over quickly! My hair isn’t doing the grey gracefully- all around my face is grey it looks awful so for now I’m dye it until the rest decides to go grey.

I also have gel nails - short and neat - I don’t have the talent or patience to do it. Every so often I leave them for a few months and I feel quite self conscious by the state of them!

I can’t really do the eyelash thing - I already have hooded eyes, not sure I’d be able to see.

Ironing hate it. I actively choose things that don’t need ironing and will hang things up quickly after washing.

Babla · 29/01/2024 00:56

Fanny waxing definitely! Grin

uncomfortablydumb53 · 28/01/2024 13:57

I've never done anything in your post, apart from 6 weekly hair cuts and colour
I use concealer blusher and lipstick daily
Skin care is no more than micellar water and Cerave moisturiser
Being touched and " pampered" makes my skin crawl! but I accept I'm not the norm
Eyebrows I have Tweezermans
I wouldn't judge anyone who enjoys those things and can afford it though

I dislike personal contact and even hate going to the hairdressers. The thought of having a spa day etc brings on my hot flushes!

buttons55 · 29/01/2024 01:07

Throwing loads of parties, don't have the time or energy and don't want the stress, tend to just do low key things, love catching up with friends/family but doing low key stuff, this seems to be unusual.

Never done much to my nails as if you don't maintain they can look worse quickly. Same with eyelash extensions, if you don't maintain they look worse very quickly.
Never dyed my hair a bright/funky colour as that fades too quickly too!
Don't follow fashion just wear what suits me. Can't be bothered with heels.
Can't be bothered with social media anymore, felt like it caused me more stress than it's worth.
Matching outfits for my kids.

LaDerniereVacheFolle · 29/01/2024 01:45

Never felt the need to:
Overshare on SM.
Get tatted.
Use foundation.
Dye my hair (I like my natural colour shocker)
Tan (unless it happens naturally on hols, otherwise I'm more than content with my pale skin)
Go to Florida
Go to Australia
Turkey Teef 😬
Dubai
Add a fake body part or get a Scouse Brow.
Anti-depressants
Dinner parties!
