Story after story now of conscription being needed. I was thoroughly convinced that this is just scaremongering but the number of senior figures coming out again today warning us to prepare it really feels like they are getting us used to the idea. Also in the papers today the US is moving some of its nuclear stockpile to the UK. Getting bit nervous now I have to admit.

It’s in plain sight. The PPE scandal, Brexit, Liz Truss’s financially disastrous shenanigans and the HS2 debacle has wasted billions of pounds of taxpayers money that could have been invested in our military.

And instead of bringing these relevant facts to the table, the trolls are out in force on this thread to anger and distract us by denigrating the young people in our lives.

Any major conflict between NATO and Russia would likely go nuclear quickly. The days of large numbers of NATO forces based in Germany are long gone.

Even in the cold war the British Government understood for the UK there was in reality nothing that could be done to "save" the UK in the event of a nuclear exchange. It would not be any different now (worse if anything as the limited cold war preparedness for a nuclear exchange is long gone)

The idea there will be citizen armies clashing on the German plains is for the birds.

Ok, official Boomer here ( aged 62). If some of the comments on this thread were being thrown at us - the first generation in a long time who did not experience conscription and war on our own soil - we would be hitting MNHQ hard and fast at the ageism .

My great grandfather was conscripted in 1915 aged 42. The idea that this will be the young only.

Russia is conscripting 60+
