He did donate a bottle of wine to a school in his constituency.......

A 1000 apologies, looks like i totally misjudged him.

In January 2024 54,308 patients had a 12 hour wait to be admitted to A&E.

In January 2020 it was 2847.

In January 2015 it was 650.

In January 2011 it was 17.

17!!!

Stats nicked from this thread from Liam Thorpe at the Liverpool Echo - worth a quick read.

Gove was busy this morning blaming it all on the strikes

RafaistheKingofClay · 11/02/2024 13:29

Wonder how long they’ll persist with that argument for. They don’t seem to be convincing many people with it.

It's easy to overlook this generous gift.

Wonder how many bottles Winchester College's donation was worth 🤔

AdamRyan · 11/02/2024 13:38

Fucks sake
Country is going to the dogs and we are on the brink of catastrophic global warming and WW3.
Had enough of humanity today

Notonthestairs · 11/02/2024 13:57

"Gove was busy this morning blaming it all on the strikes"

Exactly why they are happier spending billions on paying for staff/agency cover.

It's cover for systemic issues.

I am so shocked that only 17 people had a 12 hour wait for A&E in January 2012. Height of winter pressures and still functioning well.
We've lost so much.

Best stay off MN for a bit. There are so many nasty threads right now.

(I need to take my own advice there!)

It is shocking, but it is also a handy stat to wheel out when someone trots out the line about things being worse under Labour.

DuncinToffee · 11/02/2024 16:19

Or when they 'threaten' we will go back to square one under Labour.

I spent quite a bit of time in and out of AE in the 80s and 90s and even under Thatcher, AE was never like it is now.

This iteration has really run it (& the UK) into the ground but then look at who we now call "Conservative Wets/Moderates?" Heseltine, Clarke, Major... these guys were Thatcher stalwarts back then.

The Tories have gone far to the right of Thatchers Conservatives.

There are. I'm a bit battered today tbh.

Has anyone else listened to "Things fell apart" by Mark Ronson? The last episode of Series 1 was so good and really resonated with me about online debate today

InMySpareTime · 11/02/2024 19:40

I listened to both series of Things Fell Apart (although I found John Ronson's voice grating), it's interesting hearing how gradual shifts in opinion/information can push even "reasonable" people down serious rabbit holes.

Well this is interesting

UK’s Rwanda bill ‘incompatible with human rights obligations’ | Immigration and asylum | The Guardian

The UK government’s controversial Rwanda legislation that deems the African country as a safe place to deport people to is fundamentally incompatible with Britain’s human rights obligations and places it in breach of international law, according to a damning parliamentary report.
MPs and peers from the cross-party joint committee on human rights have delivered a critical analysis of the safety of Rwanda bill, which is progressing at speed through parliament.

Indeed : James O'Brien has a whole chapter on Murdoch in his book - the very first chapter in fact.

IClaudine · 12/02/2024 08:58

Interesting to look at the particular political issues currently being discussed on MN:

Rumours that there will be a GE in May. It would be lovely if true.

Posie Parker/Kelly J Keen to stand in Starmer's seat.

Lots of benefit bashing, which makes me think the May election rumours could be true.

In the meantime, two by elections this week 😍.

IClaudine · 12/02/2024 08:59

Still no jgw1.😔 MN would not have banned her for any reason the I can think of? I really hope she is OK. I miss her satirical input.

BIossomtoes · 12/02/2024 09:06

I know. I really miss her too. I’m quite concerned about her now, it’s been a long time.

I don't know about MN not banning her. They seem quite keen to ban, and there are people on here who hit 'report' at the drop of a hat. I hope I'm wrong.

May GE would be soooooo good, the Tories have got to realise that they can't save themselves now.

Roussette · 12/02/2024 09:21

As far as banning, unless it is something really serious, don't they just 'suspend' for a week/month or whatever.
I cannot think that has happened to jgw however, I hope she's taking some time out and will return.

IClaudine · 12/02/2024 09:22

I think you have to do something bad to get a permanent ban.

Ime, just has to be is a few reported and deleted posts.

I have had a permanent ban, later changed to a temp one but basically given a final written warning.

What i do now is remove or hide the thread the moment posters make it personal, as i tend to respond in kind!

my goodness it’s only 9.30am & already this mornings posts on this thread make for very sobering reading it’s all just so bloody depressing Yy the influx over the weekend of some really nasty threads.

Have you seen this story? Labour can't replace him because there is less that two weeks to go before the by election. So it is either let him stand or have no candidate.
