I think the squark could also be for a medical emergency on board meaning they need to land quickly and be met by an ambulance but obviously they won’t publicise this.

mauvish · 21/01/2024 21:49

Yeah, my map was suggesting it had come down in a field! *Cork)

tchotchke · 21/01/2024 21:49

Wind gust recorded at Glencoe summit of 168mph!!!!!

Bimblesalong · 21/01/2024 21:49

I was wondering the same re the Cork flight. Winds are sure mucking things around. I guess cork airport arrivals board will tell the story.

eg2627 · 21/01/2024 21:49

anyone know where the SLH to glasgow flight (red) is heading

mauvish · 21/01/2024 21:50

Poss Leeds for the Sharm flight? It's turning southwest -- edit, south east! Irt's a good job I don't fly a plane for a living!!

Whatthechicken · 21/01/2024 21:50

My husband is due to land in Nashville shortly. I chose today of all days to show the kids Flight Radar! I shouldn’t have as I’m slightly obsessed now and a little more anxious (not about husband’s flight).

cakeorwine · 21/01/2024 21:50

The Amsterdam to Edinburgh and London to Edinburgh planes could have waved to each other as they just passed in opposite directions

London to Cork has frozen on my app. Stuck at 1000 feet. Had it landed?

It says it's arrived although it seemed to have overshot!

Edited

Looks like Leeds

Clearinguptheclutter · 21/01/2024 21:50

The sharm to Glasgow flight will be at the limits of a 737s range now having been in the air for nearly 7hours
no wonder its squaking
fingers crossed he’ll get into MAN or possibly LBA very soon

Bimblesalong · 21/01/2024 21:51

The wind is really climbing outside now (Chester). I’m going to have to dig the camping earplugs out I think so I can sleep.

Bimblesalong · 21/01/2024 21:51

@CharlotteStreetW1 phew!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/01/2024 21:51

Excuse my ignorance, but have you all got accounts? Cos I am looking at the free site and I don't seem to be seeing the same things you all are? planes turn red when I hover my mouse over them.

eg2627 · 21/01/2024 21:51

it’s gone past leeds though

eg2627 · 21/01/2024 21:52

I just have the free app PP

Now landed ...

Looks like Luton - Edi has given up and is heading south, maybe Newcastle?

I think Newcastle too. It’s wild here.

SecretKeeper1 · 21/01/2024 21:52

Will the Alicante to Leeds, due in 10 mins, be the first (I think) Ryanair flight to manage to land there today? Jet2 has plonked all theirs down successfully, not sure why other airlines can’t.

Currently 58mph winds at the highest passenger airport in the country. I’d rather not!

What does squawked mean please? I have silver membership on FR but I still don't know!

Good question...

FWIW every single airline on flightradar is squawking, all the time. That's a four digit code, sent out by a box on the aircraft....the identifier allows ATC to identify in crude terms which blip on their screens is which. Sadly basic flight radar doesn't let you see those squawks. For example according to one of the other tracking apps UAE 4, which is over Kent at the moment is, squawking 4647....

For some reason "it's squawking" or similar seems to have become shorthand in some circles for the urgency/emergency code of 7700, which is a specific code entered into the appropriate box onboard the aircraft to help highlight an aircraft on ATC's screens.

mauvish · 21/01/2024 21:52

I'm on the western outskirts of Sheffield, probably about equidistant (as the plane flies) between EMA, Manchester and Leeds. It sounds as though the wind is starting to ease off outside, though it's been gusting at not far off 60mph all afternoon (according to the beeb)

Have you clicked on the plane?

What's the code for the Sharm to Glasgow?
