I’ve seen various TikTok’s posts on fb ect today saying we are heading for ww3 .

do you think we are ?

OP posts:
Pootles34 · 19/01/2024 21:56

No. These people know stirring this shit up gets them more hits - it's no different to the Express saying it's going to snow all the time.

Naptrappedmummy · 19/01/2024 21:56

no

Prena · 19/01/2024 21:57

No, I believe fake news is a huge concern though plus the impact of social media on various political displcourses.

Changingplace · 19/01/2024 21:58

Not because of anything I’ve seen on TikTok but in general, I wouldn’t be shocked if it happened in my lifetime, the world is too unstable, there’s too many potential issues that could bubble over.

Igotjelly · 19/01/2024 22:00

Well if it’s on TikTok it must be true…..

In all seriousness though not at this stage, though I do think the World is more unstable than it’s been in a long while.

DoughnutB · 19/01/2024 22:01

Nah, more like conquering the galaxies

sharptoothlemonshark · 19/01/2024 22:01

No

Scutterbug · 19/01/2024 22:01

No I don’t think so at the moment.

SnapdragonToadflax · 19/01/2024 22:02

No.

Tiktok is not a news source. Why are we getting so many threads lately saying 'Tiktok says this and I'm panicking about it'... I could upload and Tiktok right now and say anything I wanted.

alwaysonadiet1 · 19/01/2024 22:08

It's not just TikTok, most newspapers are reporting on the likelihood of war with Russia.

EcoCustard · 19/01/2024 22:12

I don’t watch TikTok. However, global conflicts will widen and spread and I feel it’s inevitable the risk of a world war increases. Space will be one of the major issues too as the race to exploit its resources causes tensions. I try not to look too much but I’m agog at what’s going on around the world and few seem to be paying attention.

IHS · 19/01/2024 22:12

And the people at the centre of it all are a bunch of senile old men who're dodging their coffins and desperate to make a name for themselves before they croak it 🙄

maeveiscurious · 19/01/2024 22:14

Don't read the Daily Mail do you?

blackpanth · 19/01/2024 22:14

Nope

Curlewwoohoo · 19/01/2024 22:14

I'm increasingly feeling like there's some truth in every generation feeling like this about something. Perhaps it's part of the human psyche. Or become a part of our societies functioning.

vodkaredbullgirl · 19/01/2024 22:18

NO we are not 🙄

Oneofthesurvivors · 19/01/2024 22:18

I don't think about it. Theres no point. Nothing I can do about it.

OpalOrchid · 19/01/2024 22:20

If it's on Tik Tok and FB it must be true 🙄

StarDolphins · 19/01/2024 22:22

No o don’t think so. We’re heading for a crap society & standard of living on many levels but not war imo.

Igotjelly · 19/01/2024 22:27

Sorry really long!

On a more serious note (because I was a bit of a sarcastic twat up thread). Yes there are a number of ongoing military conflicts going on and a few other areas of tension that could erupt into conflict. The nature of the World in 2024 means they’re all interlinked to an extent but at the same time they’re all pretty separate:

  • Israel/palestine has been through cycles of violence and lesser violence for years. This latest conflagration is particularly nasty and has the potential to become a regional conflict but at present it really doesn’t look like any of the various actors want that.
  • The Houthis are in alliance with Hamas and are showing their support by attacking vessels in the Red Sea. Again neither the West nor Iran want a direct shooting match with each other.
  • Pakistan and Iran have always had a somewhat rocky relationship and often accuse each other of harbouring extremists. Many experts consider the latest flair up to be more about addressing internal Iranian politics after the funeral bombing than actually picking a fight with Pakistan.
  • Ukraine/Russia is extremely complicated (I would really recommend the long running series of threads) but the reality is we need to support Ukraine because at the end of the day it’s morally right if nothing else. I do think there is a risk of a NATO-Russia war but again at this stage I suspect it’s not something either side really want. Recent reports about NATO readying itself are nothing new, it’s what the alliance is for.
  • Taiwan is a flash point but at this stage direct military confrontation looks unlikely. For one there is no evidence of the necessary preparations for an amphibious landing. More likely are increased military drills and a potential blockade.

I think we might see the resumption of nuclear testing at some point and something akin to a Cold War whereby the world is split into blocs.

Mariposa99 · 19/01/2024 22:55

It was reported as well on Sky etc wasn’t it after the comments made by a senior figure at NATO earlier, not just TikTok. I do think his comments were slightly twisted though and it’s been made out like he said civilians will be drafted to the front line when I actually think he was referring to people being conscripted into industry to support war.

Coldilocks · 19/01/2024 22:57

Yes.

Ducksinthebath · 19/01/2024 23:02

We’re in the midst of a SpAG war but otherwise no, not quite there yet.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 19/01/2024 23:13

No - there will not be a world war in the same way as there was in the 20th century. But we are likely to see a continuation of conflicts across the world. We might also see more civil unrest globally.
