I’ve seen various TikTok’s posts on fb ect today saying we are heading for ww3 .

do you think we are ?

So we are having a world war because of tik tok, yeah it works that way

FloorWipes · 20/01/2024 09:21

I think TikTok is a bit of a red herring here because this topic is also being quite widely discussed in the press and Grant Shapps raised it in a speech this week.

The truth is that it is possible and none of us really knows.

Unabletomitigate · 20/01/2024 10:01

Yes. I have this second hand. I know a guy who works in arms sales, so he is up to date on the global situation, and has lots of contacts with various militaries in the western world, and people in his world are saying if we can get to 2027, we are safe, but things are close.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 20/01/2024 10:09

No. Maybe stay away from TikTok.

RosieMilkJug · 20/01/2024 10:10

An arms dealer as a friend?

BringMeSunshine48 · 20/01/2024 10:11

No.

Why 2027?

Firstly it’s some arms dealer who knows everything about the possibility of international conflict, resolution and diplomacy. Secondly very indiscreet to be banding it about to friends….

Thirdly I’m wondering why there is a random arbitrary 2027 date after which we’re all safe?

An arms dealer as a friend?

Probably sells spud guns.

Coldilocks · 20/01/2024 10:18

Hermittrismegistus · 20/01/2024 10:16

Probably sells spud guns.

Or glue guns, hopefully. I wouldn’t be able to speak to someone who profiteered from death, destruction, fear and intimidation.

1975wasthebest · 20/01/2024 10:18

Yes, and it’s not just on social media. As pointed out, NATO said they expect war with Russia within the next twenty years.

I read a disturbing story today in The Times about our defence capacities being relatively weak and I’m seriously thinking of emigrating.

Goldenbear · 20/01/2024 10:18

Is 2027 the year that Tik Tok has declared our safe haven year?

Acornsplop · 20/01/2024 10:20

How do you define "WW3"?

Nonplusultra · 20/01/2024 10:22

Being afraid makes us more likely to accept our govts acting in certain ways that would have had us out on the streets protesting twenty years ago.

Shoppingfiend · 20/01/2024 10:24

I don’t think there will be a war as the plebs -you and me and everyone else - has the internet and are educated and we won’t let our Govs start a war as we know how shit all the others have been.

I say educated and with internet prob excludes Taliban plebs and Houthi rebels in Yemen.

spicedlemonpie · 20/01/2024 10:41

I think they will be ww3 in the end but dont know when though.
Just something i heard as a child bizarrely.
Oh well.

IHS · 20/01/2024 10:43

Is 2027 the year when Putin's batteries run out? 😂

PiersPlowman11 · 20/01/2024 10:48

Yes, we are. The geopolitical tectonic plates are shifting and I expect to see conflicts springing up elsewhere in the world (as they seem to be doing at the moment). What that means for us in practice is hard to say, but the Korea-Taiwan-Eastern Europe hotspots will likely flare up in the coming months / years.

Anyway, there is bugger all anyone can do about it so just worry about the things you do have control over.

nomoretoriesforme · 20/01/2024 10:57

Yes

I presume if the government was going to go to war they wouldn't announce it on This Morning

DaisyDoo09 · 20/01/2024 14:42

I personally think it will happen but it won’t be for a few years.

OP posts:
curlyrebel · 20/01/2024 16:59

I worry about this too. It seems entirely possible that Trump will be re-elected and can you imagine how he will handle already fragile international situations?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/01/2024 17:00

Ah, the heavy weight, in-depth news service that is Tik Tok.

🤣🤣🤣

No

BarelyLiterate · 20/01/2024 17:10

No.

In Europe, the Ukraine war has been going on for almost 2 years now, and it’s absolutely clear that nobody on either side has any intention of allowing it to escalate. Putin might be a bastard, but he isn’t a madman.

In the Far East, China obviously wants Taiwan but it’s highly unlikely it will want to start WWIII by invading any time soon. Again, XI might be a dictator, but he isn’t a madman and the smart money must be on some sort of long-term negotiated settlement, as with Hong Kong. Western economies need to become much less dependent on Taiwanese semiconductors to enable a peaceful outcome.

The Middle East is different. A wider regional war is obviously possible, and the first steps to preventing it would be for the Israelis to get rid of the warmonger Netanyahu and for the Iranians to stop funding Hamas terrorists.

AnnoyingMildew · 20/01/2024 17:18

Rich governments get richer during times of war. It's in their interests to have multiple, remote, and separate conflicts ongoing at all times.

A World War is not in anyone's interests anymore. Too high risk of it turning nuclear (though I wouldn't rule out tactical nuclear activity). And a full blown nuclear war would cost governments too much money, whole markets would be wiped out. Not in their interests.
