If you could have a night out at the cinema, a live music gig or a theatre show, which would you prefer?

I haven’t been on a proper night out for ages and I feel like I’m missing out. I am going to make an effort to do things I really enjoy and miss like the above. For me, I think I enjoy live music the most, followed by a good film at the cinema then a theatre show although I love them all.

Probably love music

Cinema is too similar to home

PieAndLattes · 19/01/2024 21:16

Live music - can’t beat a good boogie!

IvorTheEngineDriver · 19/01/2024 21:17

None of the above.

wubwubwub · 19/01/2024 21:17

Theatre

mrsfollowill · 19/01/2024 21:19

Live music 100% no 1, then theatre close 2nd. Not so bothered with cinema as I prefer to watch films at home with easy access for loo and food and drink. We've got a big TV and I can sit there in my dressing gown and then roll into bed.

Pebbles16 · 19/01/2024 21:20

Music is the first choice (have dates in the diary as it's a priority); then theatre: cinema is not something I will make time for. I like cinema but it's ££ and rarely something I want/need to see on the big screen

Gymmum82 · 19/01/2024 21:22

Theatre first choice. Then live gig. Cinema I wouldn’t choose at all

MsRinky · 19/01/2024 21:23

Gig, with theatre a distant second. Never go to the cinema - have a projector/big screen at home, plus a comfortable sofa, wine and more importantly, no-one I haven't invited to be there with me.

TheDandyLion · 19/01/2024 21:24

Live music. There is more audience participation and collaboration than the other two.

Agecanonix · 19/01/2024 21:25

Theatre probably but not boring stuff, then it would be Cinema. I hate live music events

QueSyrahSyrah · 19/01/2024 21:25

Theatre for me, but live music for DH. We go to the cinema often anyway.

Our first baby is due in June, so we've got a weekend in London in Feb to see two plays, and DH is going again in March for two gigs. Squeezing a last few in to see us through for a while!

fishfingersandtoes · 19/01/2024 21:27

Live gig if it's any old gig and any old theatre. Wouldn't go for cinema as I'm not that into it.

PamelaParis · 19/01/2024 21:31

Theatre. I can listen to music and watch films at home. I haven't actually been to the cinema since before the pandemic.

witmum · 19/01/2024 21:32

I went to an amateur dramatics comedy performance in our village hall this week and loved it. I went alone, it cost £10 and I had a wonderful time.

Being around community is really important.

Cocolapew · 19/01/2024 21:37

Gig, as long as there's seats 😄

Precipice · 19/01/2024 21:39

Assuming interest in the plot of all and liking the music - definitely the theatre. More to enjoy in the moment of the performance. I don't care much for concerts - too loud.

PiggieWig · 19/01/2024 21:43

I love going to the theatre alone. I’m not that fussed about the cinema and prefer to go to gigs with friends, but a solo theatre trip is pretty special.

YoureRockingTheBoat · 19/01/2024 21:45

I’m fascinated by the enthusiasm for live music on this thread. I can see my local theatres, and obviously I know where the cinema is, but I hardly know how the music scene works. Are you talking about going to jazz clubs / concert halls / arena style gigs / folk sets in a dedicated pub? If I’d known it was so enjoyable, I’d have made more time for it!

DoughnutB · 19/01/2024 21:48

cinema modern films big screen

Meredusoleil · 19/01/2024 21:50

Usually theatre (only if it is a musical), then cinema. But would make an exception to go to see Abba Voyage in concert. Otherwise feel I'm too old now for the loud music at live gigs!

Isseywith3witchycats · 19/01/2024 21:52

live gig for me every time

2chocolateoranges · 19/01/2024 21:54

Theatre though it would have to be a musical!

Norrisville · 19/01/2024 21:54

Theatre, then gig

Papillon23 · 19/01/2024 21:54

Theatre, then live music then cinema for me.

BarelyLiterate · 19/01/2024 21:54

Theatre.

Cinema doesn’t really interest me. There is never anything interesting to see, just the usual generic / franchise Hollywood rubbish, and the places are always full of noisy kids who ruin everyone else’s enjoyment.
