First grey hairs - when?

Myhubbyisasweetheart · 16/01/2024 21:32

I turn 38 this year and am happily surprised that I've never had a grey hair (it's brown).

My mum got her first grey hairs at 19.

What age did you get your first silver threads?

27 and have recently at the age of 57 got my first white eyebrow 😕

Justwrong68 · 16/01/2024 22:12

I'm 55 and I only have a few, plus my natural colour is a much darker brown. What do I win?

Blomdd · 16/01/2024 22:14

I used to have a few and now have none. Explain that one!

Early/mid-30s, I think.

I'm 44 and have a magnificent Mallen streak, of which I'm very proud - my natural hair colour is dark brown and I wear it naturally curly (Type 3C!), so it stands out really well: I love it!

Looking at my parents and grandparents, the best I will achieve is salt and pepper in my late 60s/early 70s, we seem to be genetically dark-haired for a long time.

AffIt · 16/01/2024 22:20

I have, however, recently developed a few white hairs in my eyebrows and I do dye those little fuckers.

kwetu · 16/01/2024 22:21

I was 16/17 when I first noticed a couple of greys, my granddaughter has had the odd one since she was 2!

Esgaroth · 16/01/2024 22:22
  1. I've never dyed it and at 35 it's about 40% grey I'd guess. Still looks brown from a distance but very obvious close up.
TheGhostILoveTheMost · 16/01/2024 22:23

43, I have 2. They're very noticeable as there are only 2 of them and they're thick and wiry

TheDandyLion · 16/01/2024 22:23

18
Now at 38 I have a head full of silver.

HardcoreLadyType · 16/01/2024 22:24

I think I was about 6.

I’m in my 50s now, and they’re coming through thick and fast, but honestly, they don’t really worry me at all.

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 16/01/2024 22:26

I got my very first grey (wellactually white hair) at 21. 44 now I have a couple of white ones (maybe a dozen).

ReignOfError · 16/01/2024 22:28

I was very pale blonde into my early 60s, and if there were any grey hairs, they wouldn't have shown. Then I went grey in the space of about a year. It’s was gorgeous silver grey, so I think I’ve been lucky.

I’m now almost 70, and was hoping it would fade to white, but there are dark grey streaks appearing, and if that spreads I’ll be thoroughly pissed off as it won’t suit me at all.

Airyfairy99 · 16/01/2024 22:30

41 none at all. Brown hair

Snoozymoozy · 16/01/2024 22:30

16 😭

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2024 22:32

59 and none yet. I'm blonde though, so maybe they're hiding.

BIossomtoes · 16/01/2024 22:33

16 and completely grey by 40. I stopped dyeing when I was 43.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 16/01/2024 22:36

19, gave up dying it at 37, 41 and have a full head of white hair.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 16/01/2024 22:40

Early 20s

Miloandfreddy · 16/01/2024 21:35

26, it coincided with the birth of my first very colicky cross baby. 41 now and need my roots down every 4 weeks as my hair is dark brown. I get jealous of my friends with blond hair who have dark roots, grey roots are just so ageing 😢

Do you have the L'Oréal root touch up spray I find it so handy

EffortlessDelegation · 16/01/2024 22:43

30 but I'm 57 now and still only have the odd one, the rest is still dark brown.

Singleandproud · 16/01/2024 22:46

I've had the odd ones since I was 16.Got noticeably more during lockdown at 35, so much so when I went back a student asked me how I had put the tinsel in my hair, the grey is a shiny silver at the moment and I quite like it against my dark brown.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/01/2024 22:47

I’m very old and I still don’t have any. It’s genetic - my DM still wasn’t properly grey, let alone white, when she died at 97.

Liquorish · 16/01/2024 22:50

I think about 17. I wish I could’ve kept my natural colour for longer. All the women in my family have been dyeing their hair since before I was born so it must be genetic.

letmeeatinpeace · 16/01/2024 23:07

First ones mid 30s, then suddenly got loads after DC born. 2.5 yrs later and, weirdly, they seem to be retreating. Or my eyesight it getting worse.

Sceptre86 · 17/01/2024 08:18

At 16 I had one. At 27 I had a pool of them but not enough to be noticeable or dye. At 30 after I had my second child I got a head full. I'm 37 now and need to dye them every 4-6 weeks.
