Where do you put clothes that have only been once and will be worn again that week?

I don’t really like putting clothes away again if I’ve worn them but struggling to think of something that doesn’t end with a whole heap of clothes out making the room look messy before they end up in the laundry bag.

Is it mad to not put stuff away? Interested to hear in others routines / storage solutions.

Over the stair bannister which is right next to my bedroom door. If we have visitors (rarely!) I lob it on my bed

I put them inside out into the wardrobe. So unworn is normal, worn inside out.

That's what I do

So the moths thing,,, not sure I get this

I have 8 coats in the downstairs wardrobe, OH has about 10 I think. Its pretty cramped in there, its a tiny child's wardrobe that goes under the stairs.

Some are wool coats, some are 'wool' coats, some are puffer jackets, some are linen jackets, denim jackets, some are rain jackets etc

Obviously, they are never cleaned, more or less. The latest one, that I got off ebay, I meant to put it in for dry cleaning before I wore it, but couldnt be bothered and its so nice I wore it and now its sitting in there

So is this a moths risk and if not why not?

I have a dedicated drawer (the bottom drawer) that is for clothes I’ve already worn outside but don’t need washing yet. My husband and daughter have one too.
Anything that need hanging, goes separately at the end of the wardrobe.
Behind the bedroom door, we have hooks where we put our indoor lounging clothes when we’re not wearing them (dressing gown, hoody etc)

There's a whole concept about "the chair" lol

After losing an expensive coat and a number of other items to moths a few years ago I’ve been careful. Worn items don’t go back into storage until washed.

So you wash a coat each time its worn?

How does that work?

BobnLen · 14/01/2024 09:24

I have never had moths go for wool coats, maybe because mine are a mix, for example my Seasalt coat is 70% wool, a lot of coats are mixed fibres like this unless very expensive. Moths have eaten my scarves and knitwear in the past though, perhaps they are easier to eat than a coat

No. It gets hung up on the back of a door or on a peg in the hallway It goes back in the wardrobe after washing or dry cleaning.

borntobequiet · 14/01/2024 10:01

I now expect a long derail over whether washing and dry cleaning count as the same thing.

SickOfSoreFeet · 14/01/2024 10:06

Other than coats and cardigans (which I may wear twice, coats until I feel they need a wash), I never wear anything twice.

BobnLen · 14/01/2024 10:17

Most of my coats are on pegs in the spare room, I have a row of pegs on the wall by the side of the wardrobe, there is a shoe rack underneath them for out of season shoes, there is about a foot gap and 5 pegs so I can stuff quite a few there, the most used coats are downstairs in the hallway, I rotate them seasonally. DH only has about 3 coats and 2 Macs so they just live in the hallway. Only two of my coats live in the wardrobe which are both mixed fibre including wool.

cherrypickles · 14/01/2024 11:20

Depends on how long I have worn it and how often I wear it. Leggings joggers sweat pants I wear after work get left on the chest of drawers.

A dress worn for a few hours at an event goes back in

Jeans/ skirts I wear many times before washing so fold and put away

I have a row of hooks too for things to wear again before washing
