Where do you put clothes that have only been once and will be worn again that week?

I don’t really like putting clothes away again if I’ve worn them but struggling to think of something that doesn’t end with a whole heap of clothes out making the room look messy before they end up in the laundry bag.

Is it mad to not put stuff away? Interested to hear in others routines / storage solutions.

I wear my pjs (night or lounge CLOTHING) for 3 days unless Im wearing them all day, in which case they would be worn for a day and a bit.

If you're living in clothing (which PJs are) then they probably need washing more than the average.

I don't wear anything twice. I probably still do less washing than the majority of you as I rarely go out so clothes hardly get worn.

Sorry, have to ask..... are you sitting around at home with nothing on then? Hoping you are wearing something in this cold weather! But seriously, PJs/lounge clothes do still need washing sometimes, so I'd have thought it is still an issue.

Sorry, I have always called clothes and pyjamas separate things.

It's still all clothes. Just in one subgroup.
Work clothes
Home clothes
Out clothes
Pyjamas - bedclothes (ha but yeah)
Going into muddy forest with active dog clothes
Gym clothes
Underwater is still clothes practically

Cannot for the life of me fathom why some of you have “systems” to identify whether something has been worn or not! Either it’s clean enough to wear again one day therefore gets hung up in the wardrobe/ folded in a drawer, or it’s not and therefore in the laundry basket. Nothing more complicated needed surely

My test for is it clean

Is it grubby/stained
Does it smell
Has it lost its shape

I can tell this by looking at it, I dont need a system

Do you sit naked in your house then? Confused

SuffolkBargeWoman · 13/01/2024 14:20

Moths

teudent · 13/01/2024 14:20

I'm just stepping away because I never meant to derail anything by saying I don't wear things twice.

Call pyjama clothes? Whatever, I'm still washing less than if I also wore an outfit every day.

I'm not fussed how they are described but the behaviour towards disabled person here is really not nice.

Nobody needed to challenge me for not wearing clothes or saying pyjama instead of cloths (have beaver heard anyone do that) or anything. Maybe juts respect my answer

titchy · 13/01/2024 14:21

Cross posted. So you wear a fresh pair of PJs everyday. How are you doing less washing then?

BobnLen · 13/01/2024 14:21

Some stuff is sometimes a bit grubby to go back in a wardrobe like walking trousers that might have a bit of mud on the bottom but I wouldn't wash them because of that

SuffolkBargeWoman · 13/01/2024 14:23

Moths was in response to @soupfiend !
Putting part worn clothing back in an enclosed dark space with your other clothes attracts and encourages moths.

DelphiniumBlue · 13/01/2024 14:23

I have hooks on the inside of each wardrobe door, and use those to hang jumpers that I have already worn on hangers- typically I will leave them for a day or 2 to air, possibly with the door open, and then hang them back in the wardrobe proper. Or sometimes I drape them over the exercise bike.
DH thinks it's very bad to put worn clothes back in the wardrobe, so his go on the chair ( and get all crumpled) .
I think I'd like a hatstand like this to hang worn clothes on but what with the exercise bike, there's not much space.

Jackfrostnippingatmynose · 13/01/2024 14:24

I hang the "worn but not dirty" clothes for rewearing that week on a hanger on the back of a tall chair in our bedroom so they dont get scrumpled.
I also wear old Tshirts under jumpers so they don't absorb any sweat and rarely need hand washing (unless I miss my mouth when eating!) I do wash them before I put them away for the summer.

titchy · 13/01/2024 14:24

In answer to the question though, on a chair. Leggings/trackies/pj bittoms that I wear while working at home get worn three times then washed, so first time of taking they go on left hand side of chair, second time on the right side and after the final wear to the washing basket. Jumpers or sweater that get worn twice typically go on back of chair. Then to washing basket.

@soupfiend that's what I was thinking 🤣

I hang them on a hanger on my curtain rails

I do this and leave the window ajar for a a bit with the door closed

This had nothing to do with disability. Very, very unfair to try to drop that accusation of not nice behaviour.
You literally said "I don't wear anything twice" but you still have less washing, so of course people will comment on that.

BobnLen · 13/01/2024 14:26

Agree about the moths liking worn clothes in dark places

theduchessofspork · 13/01/2024 14:27

Hang them on hooks on the back of the door, or some people have one of those ladder thingies

Whataretheodds · 13/01/2024 14:27

Chair, on hanger on back of door or in the bathroom if it needs to air/steam. Then sometimes back in the wardrobe for a suit jacket, for example.

When I used to go to the gym I would also hang out gym kit to air and dry before putting it in the laundry basket (if not washing it immediately).

Lucy377 · 13/01/2024 14:27

@DelphiniumBlue I'm just glad to hear exercise bikes do get used for something useful 😂

LuciferRising · 13/01/2024 14:01

Just hang them back up and stop worrying about the small stuff ?

Smug

I like thinking about little things like this sometimes. It’s a welcome distraction from worrying about big stuff

beachlover24 · 13/01/2024 14:31

I lay them on a blanket box at the end of my bed.

I cannot stand the thought of worn clothes and completely clean clothes mixing around in the wardrobe. I know it absolutely doesn’t matter but it’s just one of my many many quirks.

Haha, it's spent time in every room in the house, but it been used about 10 times in the last 5 years! Can't bring myself to get rid of it, it's a small footprint for a bike, and of course if there was another lockdown it would come in handy. During the last lockdown my niece borrowed it and then gave it back as she didn't want to store it! So I'm very pleased there is a use for it while I'm deciding what to do.

chairdrobe!

Yep me too , esp when I get home from work i take of my uniform and put on my own clothes - and put my uniform on the back of chair , at night i put my own clothes on seat of chair and uniform back on in the morning .
If the weather is nice i put each set on the washing line for a few hours to let it air a bit .

Oh wow, I'm impressed by your organisational skills!

evtheria · 13/01/2024 14:37

I'll put it on a hanger, maybe air it outside if dry weather, or hang it on a short, separate rail that's in the bedroom. I try to rewear it within the week, because I just don't like the idea of putting it with my washed-and-unworn stuff.
