Where do you put clothes that have only been once and will be worn again that week?

I don’t really like putting clothes away again if I’ve worn them but struggling to think of something that doesn’t end with a whole heap of clothes out making the room look messy before they end up in the laundry bag.

Is it mad to not put stuff away? Interested to hear in others routines / storage solutions.

I have an older version of this from when the DC were little. It’s now next to my wardrobe.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 13/01/2024 15:10

I have a small garment rail for these clothes.

My test for is it clean

Is it grubby/stained
Does it smell
Has it lost its shape

I can tell this by looking at it, I dont need a system

Same
I just put my clothes back in drawers/wardrobe
Obviously I put underwear or sports clothes in the laundry after one wear but anything else is worn again if not sweaty/smelly/obviously dirty.
A hoodie or jeans I might wear 3 or 4 times if not obviously grubby

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/01/2024 15:14

In the wash. Because it took months to get rid of the clothes moth infestation that was traced back to DP's stash of 'still clean clothes'.

New2024 · 13/01/2024 15:16

Oh I should add that the DH has a jute trug in the bottom of the wardrobe for jumpers and tops he’s wearing again and his hoodies/fleece type stuff is on the back of the door in the spare room. Mostly because that door has a fancy long coat hook clearly used for similar process and put up by prev owners

KnittedCardi · 13/01/2024 15:22

Chairdrobe. Every so often I will do a clear off, sniffing as I go. Jeans, sweats and jumpers get several wears. TShirts, tops, a couple of days. Undies go directly to wash basket every day

@Chilicabbage

This had nothing to do with disability. Very, very unfair to try to drop that accusation of not nice behaviour.

It's relevant because it's the reasons I don't wear clothes often. Sorry I don't mean it badly but if people can't understand when I say I am disabled that means I don't able to do things the same way they should back off not like on with the clever 'you must sit naked' comments

You literally said "I don't wear anything twice" but you still have less washing, so of course people will comment on that.

Yes I juts assumed people would know when I said wash less because I wear pyjamas more that's all. I am not wearing pyjama and clothes, just pyjama so less washing.

Again, back to the disability, all dignity goes away - I get showered every other night and usually keep those pyjamas on from clean until the next night.

I tried to stay away and not get dragged on here but saying it's wrong of me to 'use' being disabled as if that's not the whole reason for the way I live is actually really not ok

Sorry but no.
You did not say anything about pyjamas nor about disability, originally you said "I wear nothing twice " which obviously in discussion about clothes will mean people assume clothes not mind read and assume you mean "outside clothes", and quite frankly staying in pjs doesn't have to mean disability, I did when I was unemployed for few months. 🤷

People are not mind readers.
No one, absolutely no one did anything bad to you here. It's absolutely understandable why people joked about the naked part.
Reread your post and then let us know how we could have guess you mean PJs and you are disabled.
"I don't wear anything twice. I probably still do less washing than the majority of you as I rarely go out so clothes hardly get worn."

While there are issue with ableism on MN, this is not one.

Nn9011 · 13/01/2024 15:30

I have a nice towel/blanket ladder that I use. It's propped up in corner of my room and doesn't take up much space. It also forces me not to keep too much on it.

greengreengrass25 · 13/01/2024 15:37

Hang them on wardrobe, skirt, trousers or place on chair or in bottom of wardrobe in a basket (jumpers, cardigans)

I always wash tops or shirts after one wear

Pudmyboy · 13/01/2024 15:38

Chilicabbage · 13/01/2024 14:06

I put them inside out into the wardrobe. So unworn is normal, worn inside out.

This is what I do too! I do hang them up outside the wardrobe for a day, (usually over the door), to air them, then they go back in

mondaytosunday · 13/01/2024 15:56

On a hook on the bathroom door, also off the end of the towel rail.

Mightily confuse me once when DH didn't rutn in the freshly washed clothes and many of my dresses were inside out😂

Cannot for the life of me fathom why some of you have “systems” to identify whether something has been worn or not! Either it’s clean enough to wear again one day therefore gets hung up in the wardrobe/ folded in a drawer, or it’s not and therefore in the laundry basket. Nothing more complicated needed surely

I was thinking exactly this!

SuffolkBargeWoman · 13/01/2024 14:23

Moths was in response to @soupfiend !
Putting part worn clothing back in an enclosed dark space with your other clothes attracts and encourages moths.

I've never experienced moths, and I've always put worn clothing back in the wardrobe.

SparklyOwls · 13/01/2024 16:05

On the floor.

You do have to bring them from somewhere afaik

Hook inside the wardrobe door

I'm just stepping away because I never meant to derail anything by saying I don't wear things twice.

Call pyjama clothes? Whatever, I'm still washing less than if I also wore an outfit every day.

I'm not fussed how they are described but the behaviour towards disabled person here is really not nice.

Nobody needed to challenge me for not wearing clothes or saying pyjama instead of cloths (have beaver heard anyone do that) or anything. Maybe juts respect my answer

I'm with you @teudent. I certainly didn't take the thread to mean PJs.

I'm also disabled and in PJs a lot of the time. I do try to.make outfits I've only had on for an hour or two last another wear if I can. They get a spritz of Febreze, aired on the curtsin rail then put back in the wardrobe. But hobbling about with a walking aid can be a hot, sweaty business at times, so some clothes are only worn once before they're washed.

madamepresident · 13/01/2024 16:18

I've got one of those over the door hanger things and hang my clothes up on there. I love I'm leggings and T-shirts during the week.

Sussudio · 13/01/2024 14:43

A small woven basket like the one at the back from Ikea. Still a little pile but it looks neater than all over the floor or on a chair and separate from the laundry basket.

I like that idea.

Atm I have the bookcase of doom - clothes to be reused are piled on the top of the (low) bookcase.

That discussion about wearing PJ during the day has the potential to become a whole ‘towel thread’ on its own with loads of people been horrified that you might wear your PJ for the night AND day (and maybe more).

As a disabled person who has been housebond, i get it though. The days when I’m getting fully dressed are hit and miss. So I have been known to wear PJ 2 or 3 nights and then spending the whole day in them too.
I do change them before going to bed but that’s because dh is doing all the washing. If I was living in my own,I’d probably not do it as often.

heartofglass23 · 13/01/2024 17:26

I have a clothes horse and could t be without it.

DilemmaDelilah · 13/01/2024 17:33

Officially... Anything that will hang up goes inside out on the hanger on the left side of my wardrobe, and anything else goes on the chair. Unofficially most things go on the chair until I eventually get around to hanging things up.

Your answer didnt make sense, so people will ask you about it

Its nothing to do with being disabled, stop being such a diva!

Xanadu58 · 13/01/2024 17:42

I've got a blanket box at the bottom of the bed , they're folded up and put there .
