Where do you put clothes that have only been once and will be worn again that week?

I don’t really like putting clothes away again if I’ve worn them but struggling to think of something that doesn’t end with a whole heap of clothes out making the room look messy before they end up in the laundry bag.

Is it mad to not put stuff away? Interested to hear in others routines / storage solutions.

I put part worn blouses on an over door hook in my bedroom so they can air
Jeans I wear until washing
My room is not big enough for a chairdrobe!

@Chilicabbage

This had nothing to do with disability. Very, very unfair to try to drop that accusation of not nice behaviour.

It's relevant because it's the reasons I don't wear clothes often. Sorry I don't mean it badly but if people can't understand when I say I am disabled that means I don't able to do things the same way they should back off not like on with the clever 'you must sit naked' comments

You literally said "I don't wear anything twice" but you still have less washing, so of course people will comment on that.

Yes I juts assumed people would know when I said wash less because I wear pyjamas more that's all. I am not wearing pyjama and clothes, just pyjama so less washing.

Again, back to the disability, all dignity goes away - I get showered every other night and usually keep those pyjamas on from clean until the next night.

I tried to stay away and not get dragged on here but saying it's wrong of me to 'use' being disabled as if that's not the whole reason for the way I live is actually really not ok

Row of hooks on the back of the bedroom door.
I only reuse things like jeans or a hoodie, everything else is clean daily.

Justia · 13/01/2024 14:41

hung up on back of door or folded/laid over chair

Myhubbyisasweetheart · 13/01/2024 14:41

I have a drawer for 'semi-worn' clothes. They go to live there, in their little limbo

deepsea9 · 13/01/2024 14:42

Jumpers, jeans etc go back in my wardrobe/ drawers.

If it is something that I will probably wear again the next day - eg a top that I have only worn for a couple of hours in the evening, it goes on the blanket box at the foot of our bed.

TeabySea · 13/01/2024 14:42

I put them away. If they've been worn all day I will hang them up somewhere to air off and to check if they're clean. If they're clean they go away.

marshmallowfinder · 13/01/2024 14:43

I have pegrail along one wall in the bedroom, so hang them up there.

Sussudio · 13/01/2024 14:43

A small woven basket like the one at the back from Ikea. Still a little pile but it looks neater than all over the floor or on a chair and separate from the laundry basket.

Lilyargin · 13/01/2024 14:44

My butler sorts them out.

NorthCliffs · 13/01/2024 14:45

The Chair, obviously.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 13/01/2024 14:46

I have a downstairs bathroom so usually get dressed in there. So when I take off something I'm going to wear again, I will try to hang it outside on the line for a 'freshen' (weather dependent) and then hang it on the Dolly Maid airer in the middle room outside the bathroom until I wear it again. Can only do this if the outfit is going to be worn fairly quickly though as I can't stand having stuff hanging around for too long (in which case I'd probably put it right away in the cupboard).

I’m slightly worried I’ll now be judged for wearing a pair of trousers twice before washing, like the towels threads! If I don’t come back, you know why.

What is the 'towels' thread?!

whatsappdoc · 13/01/2024 14:47

I have a used clothes drawer. Can't bear to see clothes out on hangers, chairs etc. It gets completely cleared out every couple of weeks for washing.

DarkAcademia · 13/01/2024 14:48

I hang them up again. I tend to wear a lot of base layers, which can go in the wash more often, and only wash my "good" clothes when they are actually dirty or smelly. So on any given day, I might wear a dress, or skirt & cashmere jumper, for instance, and will almost always wear a uniqlo base layer or something underneath, so the base layer and tights can go in the wash, and the jumper and skirt hardly EVER. My clothes are always clean, and never ever smell.

I am passionate about wearing clothes for many many years, and tend to buy more expensive clothes second hand so I can afford natural fibres and more expensive/better manufactured brands, and will honestly wash my cashmere jumpers once or twice a year. I obviously don't wear them for cooking etc. When I get home from work I hang my outer layer up (I have an open wardrobe rack), and put on a pair of leggings and sweatshirt, which can go in the wash more often.

We have a valet hanger that is on the outside of the wardrobe. Like this

Me too, same one. It’s perfect.

my husband has a vintage valet stand.

minipie · 13/01/2024 14:51

Chairdrobe here.

New2024 · 13/01/2024 14:53

Skirts and jackets/blazers are a separate category as they won’t be sweaty or soiled on the same way unless it’s very hot weather - so they go in the wardrobe

I wear my jeans and trousers in rotation - so the chosen pairs for that week live in a cloth cube on the blanket box.

Tops/jumpers/bras - same process, except that the bras sit at one end of underwear drawer.

Scarves - it’s rare one stays directly around my neck for much of a day. I have a little basket with the 3 or 4 on the go and the others I’ve not worn live in a basket in the wardrobe.

Socks and undies don’t get more than one wear.

WormHoleInSpace · 13/01/2024 14:53

@threebean , there is always a ongoing debate somewhere on MN , ' How many times do you use a towel before it gets washed ? , do you share towels with other family members ? ' it often includes how many times you change your bedding too

NellyWest · 13/01/2024 14:54

THE chair. I never actually sit on it but it holds day old clothes so well sometimes I find them two weeks later.

Tinkerbyebye · 13/01/2024 14:56

On a chair in the bedroom

megletthesecond · 13/01/2024 14:57

Hooks behind the bedroom door. It's mostly jeans and sweaters. Maybe running outdoors running leggings if not muddy.

madeinmanc · 13/01/2024 15:00

I've got a clothes rail for them to hang on. I think being aired does them good, but having them in sight reminds me to wear them again. There's no way I'd ever put them back with clean clothes, that would make the clean clothes smell.

Nice 👍🏼 I keep my socks and scarves in similar ones. They are B and M - I bought them a while back purely because they had a matching to the bedroom colour on the trim. They have lasted well, been marvellous for the socks as no more reaching to the back of the drawer

therealcookiemonster · 13/01/2024 15:01

I have a seperate wardrobe for outside clothes that I will wear again. indoor clothes that I will wear again either get folded and put back in the normal wardrobe or put on a hanger placed back in the wardrobe.
I might wear a dress or trousers twice (if only worn for a few hours at a time). but vests/tops/leggings always get washed straight after wearing.
