2 landing attempts and still not down.

I think it's windy there

I fly to Madeira often and couldn't land in two occasions, had to go back to mainland and try the following day. The main problem in Madeira is the wind and the feeling of landing there when is windy is that you're going to crash.

TAP doesn't risk it as much as other companies when it's windy (they had a fatal crash in Madeira in the 80's) and that's why sometimes they don't land while others do.

Madeira airport used to be terrifying, wedged between sea and cliff, but I think it has been improved

It certainly was. Remember being thrown forward as the plane had to stop very quickly.

Same this morning the Lisbon flight is currently on the 3rd attempt but a Düsseldorf flight is also landing. I am strangely invested now.

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 13/01/2024 09:43

Oooh and the Nantes flight is also here!

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 13/01/2024 09:45

2000 ft apart. Mumsnet has turned me into some strange things.

They’re all 3000 feet apart though, height-wise.

Morning! I can't believe I've finally found my people. I thought I was alone in the world with my perusal of flight radar!

LinesmanMinnelli · 13/01/2024 10:12

I'm sad enough that I've got one of their antennas attached to my roof so I feed into the data...

LinesmanMinnelli · 13/01/2024 10:14

Must be some awful weather at the airport

solomonsfish85 · 13/01/2024 10:15

I've flown into Funchal on a clear day - made you catch your breath! Isn't it there that they have an awful statue of Christiano Ronaldo?

LinesmanMinnelli · 13/01/2024 10:20

On the app pull down from the search bar/the line just under it.

I’ve had a subscription for years and never knew the app did this! Thanks 😄

Singleandproud · 13/01/2024 10:22

I was looking to see if they had a live feed at the airport but couldn't find one but this shows why it's a bit dicey Landing in Madeira I thought coming into Gibraltar was iff but I think I'd rather that.

I remember landing at Madeira airport, terrifying. I think it’s quite common that they have to turn around
