Things that have too many or too few in a packet

I was pondering this as I opened a box of my current preferred biscuits. Nairn's dark chocolate oatcakes. I know all of the Nairns come in packs of 5 but still.

I don't need 5. I mean I would happily eat 5 and I did in the end and there were 5 in the packet. I'm trying to shed a few pounds (or just be a bit better than normal in Jan). I would be absolutely fine with 3. But I had to eat the other 2 and always will due to lack of willpower. I wouldn't eat 3 then eat 2 more if they came in 3s.

It got me thinking about other food items where there are too many or too few. Too many crisps in a grab bag too but I'll always eat all of them because they are THERE.

Any other examples?

How odd - I came on here to mention Nairns Oatcakes and Flatbreads! So I agree.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 10/01/2024 15:45

Haha maybe they are the only culprits then (and grab bags of walkers obviously)

Bacon wheat crunchies. You get about 11 of the things in a packet. Waste of packaging, just charge me more and fill the goddam packet up you bastards.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 10/01/2024 15:46

Wheat crunchies. About 8 in a packet. Ridiculous

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 10/01/2024 15:51

Oooh 2 votes for Nairns and 2 for wheat crunchies. I have not had in years but that sounds pathetic.

I’d like M&S Swiss Mountain Bar in a smaller size, like the other Swiss Bars. Once I open one, it has to be finished…

Jaffa cakes Sad

wineandmaltesershappyme · 10/01/2024 15:59

Jaffa cakes
Maltesers - need a share bag just for me 😂

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 10/01/2024 16:06

Yes to maltesers and the 'share bags'

Also - I don't consider myself to be someone who loves big portions of things but I bought a chicken korma for 2 from M & S the other night to share with my teen DD.

It does NOT serve 2. 2 hamsters maybe but not 2 adults. I wonder if they now put less in or maybe my portion sizes are way out. But I don't think they are. Good job I had bought a back up Chicken Saag!

Crumpets.

Why is there 9?? You eat them in 2s?

AgnesX · 10/01/2024 16:14

There's mostly too much of something if you're on your own or only eating alone.

If I bought big bags if crisps, bread and whole cakes I'd scoff the lot. Hot cross buns being the prime example.

bobomomo · 10/01/2024 16:16

Those sharing bags of crisps that say serve 4 or 6 - well they serve the number of people sat on the sofa, typically two.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 10/01/2024 16:19

@storminabuttercup

I love crumpets and have never considered this! Maybe they are saying we should be eating them in 3s 🤔

Any cake from a supermarket. They say it serves 8. So how do me and DH have a perfect amount each🤔😂

Wictc · 10/01/2024 16:23

Tortillas (the small corn taco ones). Too many in a packet for 2, not enough for 4.

KissTheRains · 10/01/2024 16:27

Dairy Milk Chocolate Fingers....

They need to at least triple how many are in a box... I'm always disappointed when I open the box and there's not as many as I'd hoped

Darklane · 10/01/2024 16:30

Paracetemol. What use are 16 for a family of four with colds or flu

Mumoftwo1312 · 10/01/2024 16:33

Tins of chocolate biscuits "white milk and dark", always have a stingy ratio of white chocolate.

I want a selection box of just white chocolate biscuits and I have ready money!

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 10/01/2024 16:38

Tinned Hot dogs or hot dog rolls depending on which way you look at is. A typical tin has 8 hot dogs but usually the rolls come in packs of 6

This reminds me of Father of the Bride with Steve Martin

OneTuTuThree · 10/01/2024 16:40

Anything with odd rather than even numbers.
So if a pack of something has 5, you're almost always going to have 1 left over.
It drives me mad.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 10/01/2024 16:48

Garlic bread slices from Sainsbury's. 9????

evtheria · 10/01/2024 16:48

Those biscuits that have 'jam and cream' in the centre between two pieces. I know there's going to be about 6 in a packet but I still feel disappointed and miffed each time I open one...

I usually struggle more with jars or tubs of stuff eg pastes, dips - that I have to use within 2 days. Cue me eating humus by the spoonful when I just want a bit on the side.

VimtoVimto · 10/01/2024 16:49

I agree with Nairns oatcakes. I bought some Marmite and Cheese ones and they come in individual serving pack of six. Ideally I’d like them to be in packs of four.

RaininSummer · 10/01/2024 16:50

I agree with the kat biscuits and the wheat crunches. I also think there are too many wraps in the packets as I can't eat them in time and they freeze badly getting all stuck together. Just put loads out for the birds.
