Voting to 'Get the Tories Out'

1000 replies

DewHopper · 06/01/2024 09:55

Pro Labour posters are all over this platform telling posters to vote for whoever gets the Tories out. It does not seem to matter who it is as long as voting for them gets the Tories out nationally.

It's a worrying voting strategy from my pov but I tend to vote at constituency level. If I had an excellent Tory MP who cared about the things I cared about and served their constituents well, I would vote for them. Similarly Labour ( I would absolutely vote for Rosie Duffield) or Independent.

Do those people who will just vote for anyone as longs as this will oust the Tories - and what could be a very good MP - ever consider the effects of this locally? They may have got the Tories out at a national level but saddled themselves with a useless MP who does nothing for the locality.

Take for example women's rights. I am a gender critical woman and care very deeply about the erosion of women's single sex spaces etc. I am sure that many of the 'Tories out at all costs' people feel the same. The pro Labour people keep telling us that Starmer will be better for women's rights BUT if you vote on a single issue - getting the Tories out - you may well elect a hopeless constituency MP who is TWAW and who will be standing up to every pro woman move that Starmer makes. I worry that there will be a lot of these in the next parliament.

So should we be voting on the single issue - get the Tories out? I don't think so - AIBU?

Why are you dancing on the head of a pin over this? Why is is so important to you that grown men get to piss next to little girls and women?

It's progressive to put women in our place innit? Don't matter if our religious beliefs mean we are on a urinary leash. Progress is giving the men what they want regardless of the harms to women.

lifeturnsonadime · 06/01/2024 19:05

BIossomtoes · 06/01/2024 19:03

That sign is permanent.

Again this is so easily changed if you care about women having single sex spaces. The cleaner, as part of their task, can put the sign up at the start of cleaning and then remove it at the end. Simple.

I’m not sure why it’s important either

DewHopper · 06/01/2024 19:05

EasternStandard you will get nowhere with those posters who are welcoming in men in to women's and girls' loos. I have no idea what their justification is for wanting this to happen but it cannot be coming from a good place.

I see the usual crowd is out with the pointing finger to tell women that their voting concerns aren't the correct voting issues again 🙄

Not just that, but that their voting concerns don't count and nobody cares - which is why they feel compelled to spend all their time marching up and down the boards and telling women how little their concerns matter. Fucking yawn.

jgw1 · 06/01/2024 19:07

lifeturnsonadime · 06/01/2024 19:01

So if I get @jgw1 right, because males clean toilets we should allow all males in toilets and never have single sex toilets?

How is that fair to women of religious minorities, or don't they matter so much?

If you make it law that no man shall ever go in female toilets, and presumably no woman in male toilets, every organisation will need two cleaners. Is that what you are proposing?

No, I am proposing that the cleaner puts the sign up at the start of the shift and removes it at the end. Perhaps with a time that they will exit the toilets.

No rocket science.

Maybe you can answer my question? I will repeat: I am interested to know why you are so invested in grown men being able to piss next to women and little girls.

So you are happy with some men entering women's toilets. I am glad we have clarified that.

Can we move the discussion forward to changing rooms.

I have a disabled friend who likes swimming. If I were to take him to the swimming baths, should we a) use the male changing room b) use the female changing room or c) use the family changing rooms that says clearly that it is for parents/carers and children under the age of 8?

That works both ways. We’re constantly bombarded by single issue voters who tell us it’s the only thing that matters. Fuck education, health, climate change, police, the judiciary, it’s all about one thing.

My answer would be discuss this with the staff and see what accommodation they can make for you and your friend.

'If you can't bring yourself to vote for the most likely candidate to beat the Tories then you will be complicit if we end up with Another five years of conservative rule.'

Enough of the emotional blackmail. No, Labour are complicit because what they're offering is bad for me, for women & for the country. I, as a voter, can't change any of the parties; Labour are the only ones who can make Labour an attractive proposition. And I'm not going to be a turkey voting for Christmas.

Not comparable as much as you think it is

For some reason you and others are attracted to a thread where the op has a clear interest in gender ideology

Your motive is to shut down all discussion on the topic

Post about what you want no one is stopping you 🤷‍♂️

I would lobby for disabled changing facilities.

New builds will have them by law https://www.gov.uk/government/news/changing-places-toilets-for-severely-disabled-people-to-be-compulsory-in-new-public-buildings and I think that existing buildings can be lobbied to provide them?

Why do disabled males matter more than women?

Always the males matter more.

Ok I shall simplify.

Do you think that men, however they identify, should be allowed in to single sex loos designed for women and girls?

They tell us ad nauseum and hijack every single political thread. I know exactly why single issue voters intend to vote the way they choose. Let them crack on, they can vote for Lord Buckethead as far as I’m concerned but I’m so tired of hearing about it. It’s beyond tedious.

Desecratedcoconut · 06/01/2024 19:19

And around the merry-go-round we go ... I'll ask what you think you'll be getting from Labour that's worth handing in the category of woman as a sex class. In the last thread we were told that Starmer would be super unhappy about not being able to change anything, he'd look a bit sad and empathize more...

You might find women's rights to single sex spaces and provisions tedious.

Many of us think they are essential and will continue to raise awareness and ask questions of the party that seeks to earn our votes as women.

So you would discriminate against someone who is disabled by putting additional obstacles in the way of them accessing a public facility. Fair enough.
