Another who found Julie Walters to be absolutely lovely.

Also Tom Wilkinson (rip), John Hannah, The Hoff, Samantha Barks, all lovely people.

I met Rod Stewart outside a pub in Sussex he was a lovely guy - friendly, down to earth.

I was with my hubby, when he saw me & hubby together after I had got a photo with him, he waved at the both of us.

Boris Johnson - exactly as blustering and charismatic with it as he comes across on TV - although very good at making it clear that as a working class not very attractive young woman I was not in any way in the sphere of humanity that he considered worth any consideration (or possibly human) - compared to the upper class people I was predominantly with at the time.

Paul Daniels was an utter cunt - just obsessed with hating his background and how rich he was. His magic close up was bloody mind-blowing though.

Was at school with Lauren Laverne - used to pinch her gameboy to play Tetris under the desk in lessons.

Also knew Liz Carr when she was in her 20's. Don't have any positive recollections of her. Found her really mean and nasty.

Sorry to hear that. I have met her a couple of times and she was really lovely. She must have mellowed.

Back in the 1990's my local mp was Donald Dewar (who became Scotlands very 1st First Minister) - he was very tall, quite swiftly spoken and reticent but nice (awful taste in suits mind - always wore brown ones).

My mum used to volunteer for the samaritans years ago and the youngish married couple from Take The High Road who were married in real life used to vunteer for them too.

Used to see James McPherson (Taggart) in my local supermarket a lot years ago (his wife is the skinniest person I have seen). Never spoke to him though.

A few years ago I saw a Scottish TV antique expert (Anita Manning) in my local Home Bargains store - felt like saying to her not sure you'd be able to find any antiques in here!!! But didn't.

Unfortunately not met anyone really famous - just local Scottish/Glaswegian ones!!!!

Do tell who the young marrieds from 'Take the High Road' were! I've just started watching the re-runs on STV (getting a bit of an addict - I'm thinking of joining the Mrs Mack fan club - how sad is that? 😂). I didn't know any of them were married in real life - it wouldn't be TJ and Carol, by any chance?

I've heard the same about Paul Daniels. Apparently he once went to a Police event in aid of charity and was coming the 'don't you know who I am act?' there - which did not go down well. I think he was so far up himself he'd virtually disappeared.

CatMum27 · 06/01/2024 22:06

Can confirm that James Norton is absolutely lovely. He and Robson Green came to film at my workplace a few years ago and were both utterly charming.

Lifeetc · 06/01/2024 22:19

Jimmy Carr, total knob
Darragh O'Brien, awesome
Mark Addy,funny, loud,generous.
Not a celebrity but infamous
Maxine Carr under whatever new name she was meant to have. (At work, not a choice, no I did not speak to her)

Snuggleyou · 06/01/2024 22:22

I have a secret aversion towards Hannah Waddingham even though people on MN seem to adore her. She epitomises what I dislike about celebs - all fake sincerity, big glittery gowns, all look at me and loud singing - it reminds me of the women who used to try to outsing each other at the church I was forced to go to as a child.

She looks very hard as well. Reminds me of that Tania character from Footballers Wives.

@Crinkle77 I think she is trying a bit of DARVO in that article. It doesn't surprise me, there has always been something that niggled at me about her. She also looks much older than she is.

Snuggleyou · 06/01/2024 23:30

Jonathan Ross in Harrods elevator in 1993 outlandish bright purple suit, staring at me, I was a very young adult.

Ricky Tomlinson in front of me cashing a cheque at the post office, late 90s. Very down to earth he wasn’t drawing attention to himself like some do. Staff went gaga when he left.

I caught the eye of Fred the weatherman when I was a child at a charity event (pre scandal)

Kylie is stunning and kind, don’t understand people saying she’s not pretty.

Kylie's backing singer Roxy (also Kim Wilde’s little sister) happy to chat lovely and complimentary.

Robert Carlisle is tiny.

Lana Parrilla stunning in the flesh and very American.

Sinbad off Brookside happy to chat and take pics.

An actress off Tracey Beaker and played a nurse in Doctors (don’t know her name), stood next to us at Manchester pride, full of dirty looks and distain for everyone.

Razor ruddock is a virtual giant and nearly knocked me over stood in-front of me in my local paper shop, trying to buy Marlboro cigs (which they didn’t stock)
Really posh vintage car he had too.

Various Hollyoaks cast over the years.

Second cousin caught Micheal Jackson’s black trilby when he played Liverpool in the late 80s, my friend and I were picking his curly black hairs out and putting them in our purse as a keepsake to show our school friends, his hair gel smelled phenomenal. Also other cousin was mad into dancing and got pulled out of the crowd to dance with him.

By proxy mum sat next to Pamela Anderson and some cast of Baywatch in Dunkin Donuts in the 90s apparently they were chatty and friendly.

Mum saw seal (then Adamski) getting in a limo.

I’ve met loads through my previous line of work. My eyes are currently falling out through tiredness but some memorables:
-Stuart Hall, TV presenter (well before his prison sentence) very charming but absolutely stank of stale whiskey at 9am
-Alice Evans, former actress and ex wife of Ioan Gruffudd, very broad and overbearing with terrible breath and awful shoes
-Gareth Gates, Pop Idol runner up. Pushed up against me at a function and let’s just say he was ‘pleased to meet me’
-Tony Blair, short with bouffant hair
I have loads more!

Glasgowgal200 · 06/01/2024 23:44

Can't really remember their names but could be Tamara Kennedy & Richard Greenwood who played the Ross-Gifford?

Cosycover · 06/01/2024 23:56

Met some of Girls Aloud in a club bathroom. ❄️❄️❄️

PinkyBlueMe · 07/01/2024 00:35

Alex Kingston - I was an extra in something she had a minor part in before she was famous, she was rude and snotty. Looked down on everyone.
Prince Edward - down to earth and very pleasant.
John Altman (Nick Cotton) - unassuming and pleasant.

I hope Cheryl kept her hands to herself.

I saw Olivia Colman having coffee in the bar of the hotel she was staying in, in Dorset whilst filming Broadchurch. She was very smiley and seemed totally normal. Apparently lovely to everyone during the filming.

Paris Hilton

I don't understand this post. Who called who ugly?

Snuggleyou · 07/01/2024 10:00

Sorry I thought I’d quoted the pp I was replying to. Paris Hilton was awful to Sharleen Spiteri from Texas the band.

Themountainwithsnowonit · 07/01/2024 10:55

The worst I've ever met was John McCrirrick. I walked into a hotel reception and he was standing there with a famous jockey. He was shouting and screaming as there was no-one at the reception desk (it was a small hotel so obviously they'd just popped away for a moment).

He was screaming 'slave, slave, someone find me a slave' at the top of his voice. A vile man. He and the jockey then sat in the lounge being loud, obnoxious and sexist.

AlpacinoAlpaca · 07/01/2024 10:56

Was Sharleen staying at The Hilton, Paris, Texas? I'm confused.
