Anyone actually excited about a Keir / Labour govt?

1000 replies

roarrfeckingroar · 04/01/2024 17:37

I'm typically a Tory voter (one nation Conservative, just right of centre, nothing radical) and gender critical, so I'm wary of a Labour government. I worry they'll leave the country worse than it is now.

However, I absolutely agree we need a change. Things can't get much worse, can they? Idiots like Boris and Truss have made a mockery of what I understand of the Conservatives - namely economic competence - and I can't vote for them this time. I don't know who I will vote for.

Listening to LBC this evening, I hear a Labour MP talk about how Starmer is offering an "exciting programme" of change and I just don't buy it. Maybe he will he better, maybe he won't, but my real question is is anyone genuinely excited about Labour, or just looking forward to the back of the Tories?

I care about a lot of things. I have watched all these years of the current government clowns destroy everything good about the UK. I want them out. I'm much more pissed off about Brexit because that will impact my children much more than the trans issue in real time.

Ok back to ‘trans issue’ not so much sex based rights

And in your view Starmer won’t deliver on it but fine

MyopicBunny · 05/01/2024 19:18

@lifeturnsonadime nobody is silencing anyone. However, there is no reasonable person that votes for a party based upon one isolated issue.

Not when the NHS is on its knees and schools are underfunded.

EasternStandard · 05/01/2024 19:19

keir cervix starmer

About sums him up yep

Well, like it or not, plenty of trans men do under go penile surgery.

So Starmer is technically correct, though his 0.1 % was a bit out.

But tbh its completely missing the boat, women's rights are being removed be it in the work place, sport, in public services and both parties need to be held accountable not just one party, a party that hasn't been in power for almost 14 years.

I really don't get why people only pull up Labour but, and i ve read the posts by the main GC posters, no criticism of the Tories, so can only assume they have political motives and aren't really bothered about womens rights at all.

It's called phalloplasty and it is abuse imo. How medics get away with this I shall never know.

This is so wrong that I had to google Tufton St. So that's me out. Over on the feminist threads, however, we can generally spot the activists & other fakes.

Wait - you don’t know what Tufton Street is but think you can spot activists? How, if you don’t know where many of them come from? Or enough about politics to have basic general knowledge?

lifeturnsonadime · 05/01/2024 19:13

I have no idea why you tell such lies.

It doesn't add anything to the thread.

The Labour Party, as the opposition, should be able to right the wrongs of the last 13 years to women. That they won't doesn't make me either a Tory voter, I am not, or rich, I am not.

If we can't hold the opposition to account on important issues in the run up to a General Election then when can we? It is undemocratic for you to attempt to silence those of us who care about women's right's and want the Labour Party to do better by claiming things that are untrue.

Which lies are you refering to?

Ok, I think we have reached the limit of your comprehension skills quite quickly, so probably best to leave it there.

Let me try to make a parallel...

If you have a teacher who has consistently over the years implemented teaching that has achieved the best outcomes for students across all subjects, compared to a 2nd teacher who has implemented a different style of teaching that has achieved less satisfactory results for their students - who would choose to teach students going forward, and who would you trust most in their decision making?

I think most people would choose the first, as they have demonstrated a good track record of decisions on teaching and achieving outcomes for their students.

Now they might make a decision on maths teaching that is in no way directly causative to the increased achievements of students studying French, but because they have demonstrated consistently good overall decision-making they have created an overall environment that is conducive to the attainment and well-being of all.

And this plays out in the league table, as that teacher's students continue to have the best outcomes in French and in maths.

No causation between the maths decision and the French performance outcome required. Just good decision making in general at the top.

That is what, I believe, these countries are doing...they have great track records for women and I don't believe they are all suddenly making bad decisions that will massively adversely affect women, and the global gender gap report certainly doesn't bear this out.

Maybe they didn't get the sarcasm?

jgw1 · 05/01/2024 19:23

Lonelycrab · 05/01/2024 19:16

I presume Dr NO is trans?

Properly laughing!

So, 29 pages in all we seem to have is keir cervix starmer and his transmageddon, purely based on speculation about what might or might not happen even though labour haven’t been in power for a long long time. I see.

Also his policies A: haven’t been clear … and…B are obviously clear
Confused
WTAF. Is that all govt supporters have?

It’s no wonder that the Tories are looking at a historic defeat, and it’s imo long long overdue.

The conservatives need to work out if they’re actually going to conserve anything, rather than smash it up, and also work out if the union is important- it was originally in their name after all and it’s looking more fragile than ever.

Tories have always been two parties within a party fighting it out like rats in a sack. And here we are, nothing has been achieved in 14 years. For the good of the country they need to go.

Edited

You are mistaken.
The last 14 years have seen hugely successful government, they have fulfilled their most important aims.
Those who are already so rich they have more money than anyone could possibly need have got much richer, some of them, have bought themselves places in our legislature. Those the Tories govern for are completely happy.

You just don't get it, do you? You just don't get it. It is NOT 'trans issue', it is a WOMENS RIGHTS issue. Men entering womens safe spaces, whether they identify as men, or identify as women. It's a matter of MEN. Not 'trans'. Because we have no problem with trans men (women) in our spaces.

This should prove to you the issue is about Males. Men, in womens spaces. Regardless of how they identify. It's about womens rights. Trans is irrelevant to the issue. The only place they are relevant in the discussion is when men (transwomen) enter our spaces. It's about males. Men. Other than that, trans people are not relevant to the discussion.

I guess my jokes aren't as amusing as the Home Secretary's.

BIossomtoes · 05/01/2024 19:25

2dogsandabudgie · 05/01/2024 18:59

Blossomtoes - If Starmer is that deluded that he actually believes that some women do have a penis and he cannot bring himself to say that 100% of women don't have a penis then I think that is very worrying. Or maybe you agree with him.

The poster you responded to doesn’t care. She’s too worried about paying her bills. Like millions of other people.

DewHopper · 05/01/2024 19:25

And still they come these blinkered posters. Accusing women who are angry with the Tories (and angrier with Labour because of the betrayal) of being rich Tories who care nothing for women's rights.
Most of us are Left wing! Most of us used to vote Labour! How many fucking times do we need to say this?

MyopicBunny · 05/01/2024 19:26

Those who are already so rich they have more money than anyone could possibly need have got much richer, some of them, have bought themselves places in our legislature. Those the Tories govern for are completely happy.

Exactly right. Some of them are here, right now pretending they're going to carry on voting them in because of female spaces.

The way that the Conservatives run things is no accident. They stand for the few, not the many.

jgw1 · 05/01/2024 19:16

Don't be daft, we don't want facts in the discussion, that would destroy my cosy illusions.

Yeah, how dare a thing like facts such as men have more privilege in all areas than women do, enter the debate?

Don't women like myself know that if a man dons a dress, (penis, testicles, privilege, strength etc and all) all of a sudden women are more privileged than he is? Wow. Confused

EasternStandard · 05/01/2024 19:28

Yep well said, at least say you don’t give a shit about women’s sex based rights and use the right term.

This is exactly why I will continue to vote Tory. They know that men should have more priviledge than woman, and that is how it should be. Which is why it is a jolly good jape if a man wants to drug his wife a little.

jgw1 · 05/01/2024 19:14

Because as another poster helpfully explained earlier in the thread the law says as much.

At one time marital rape was legal. As the saying goes, the law is an ass. Just because it's legal, doesn't make it right.

EasternStandard · 05/01/2024 19:28

I think you have found the Tory party position on the issue.

MyopicBunny · 05/01/2024 19:29

@SoreAndTired1 you don't need to patronise me, thanks. I don't need to be schooled in problems with the trans movement and how it's eroding women's rights.

Why exactly is it so relevant on a thread about who the next government will be? You are the one who doesn't get it!! The Tories despise women.

That is a different discussion, is it perhaps one you would like to have?

We coulld include in the discussion consideration of why all the major UK political parties hold the same position on continuing with the status quo.

jgw1 · 05/01/2024 19:29

I think we’ve seen many posters views on the issue.

It’s brilliant you’re trying so hard for TRAs but it’s no help to women

You really don't get it. Because LABOUR are seeking our vote to form government.

Goodness gracious me! How can something so simple be so unable to be understood? It's like some people on here don't realise Labour are a candidate for election! smh

MyopicBunny · 05/01/2024 19:34

I didn't refer to it as trans rights though did I? I referred to it as the trans issue.

by which I meant

The issue of the trans movement eroding women's rights.

Are you telling me how I'm allowed to set out my views now? 😂
