Oh bless! She seemed a good woman.

I always thought she was treated far worse than she should have been. Her heart was in the right place. Sad

Just last week, she donated more than 100 Christmas presents to children:

Unfortunately your heart being in the right place (if it was) isn’t sufficient when you’re responsible for safeguarding vulnerable kids.

it’s a scandal and she’s another one that was never held to account

AgentProvocateur · 02/01/2024 20:10

61 - no age at all.

Indeed.

Exasperatednow · 02/01/2024 20:20

I presume you read what the judge said in her court case?

CurlewKate · 02/01/2024 20:22

I'm sorry she's died. But she was not right a good person.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 02/01/2024 20:22

It was very sad to see Kids Company go the way it did, although there had to be some serious management issues for it to fold the way it did. I remember seeing some of the staff talking about how they felt when it was closed down, and how devastated they were. I hope her end was peaceful.

CurlewKate · 02/01/2024 20:23

*not a good person

Exasperatednow · 02/01/2024 20:24

"The high court exonerated Batmanghelidjh, and rejected the claim that Kids Company had been mismanaged and charitable funds misspent. The judge praised her for the “enormous dedication she showed to vulnerable young people over many years” and her achievement in building a successful charity that did “incredible work”.

soupfiend · 02/01/2024 20:24

I used to use kids company a lot, referring children to them, they delivered good results for children

I saw a couple of seminars she delivered as well, was impressed

Was disappointed when it all fell apart.

Not according to the High Court.

@CurlewKate @Atethehalloweenchocs @HermioneWeasley please do your research and get your facts straight before you libel an innocent woman by confusing your opinion with the truth. The Police investigated and found no evidence of child abuse or lack of proper safeguarding and a High Court judge cleared her of any kind of charity mismanagement. She was an extraordinary woman who helped countless vulnerable and damaged children and quietly continued to do so even when people like you continued to rubbish her reputation.

heldinadream · 02/01/2024 20:39

I am sad to see this. Saw her speak once, she really had a deep passion for the injustices of child poverty. Her only 'crime' I believe was she had disdain for the rules and the system and chose to act in her own way. Never a thing looked on favourably by the powers that be.
I think she was scapegoated, personally.
RIP Camilla. 🩵💜🧡💛💚

NotSuchASmugMarriedAnymore · 02/01/2024 20:42

I remember the scandal surrounding her and feel that if she had done anything wrong there would have been evidence and she would have been prosecuted.

She WAS exonerated. She did a huge amount of work for the charity and I hope she rests in peace. so young.

mamma65432 · 02/01/2024 20:42

From the Guardian "In 2015, Batmanghelidjh and the charity’s trustees closed Kids Company after its growing financial troubles were exacerbated when a BBC report claiming sexual abuse had taken place at the charity triggered a public and media backlash. Police subsequently investigated the allegations, and found no evidence of wrongdoing.
For months she was vilified in the parts of the media, despite protesting her innocence, an extraordinary reversal of her earlier popularity with the press. The official receiver launched a high-profile and expensive attempt to ban her from holding senior roles in public life, finally culminating in a 10-week court case in 2021.
The high court exonerated Batmanghelidjh, and rejected the claim that Kids Company had been mismanaged and charitable funds misspent. The judge praised her for the “enormous dedication she showed to vulnerable young people over many years” and her achievement in building a successful charity that did “incredible work”.

So a media witch hunt basically and that's all that people remember, not that she was exonerated by the high court and the police.

HorribleHisTories15 · 02/01/2024 20:44

Camilla Batmangheildi was an incredible role model and ambassador for children's rights. It is a real loss at her passing.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 02/01/2024 20:44

How did I libel her? There are other charities which have been investigated and made it through - the fact this did not suggests some management problems. That is all I said (and also the charity commission, which she disputed and was going to take on). Get over yourself.

MargaritaThyme · 02/01/2024 20:44

It’s clear that a great deal of, to use the politest euphemism possible, ‘financial mismanagement’ was swept under the carpet at Kids Company because of Batmanghelidjh’s political & media connections and powerful friends. Someone less well-connected might have found themselves facing serious criminal charges.

Cincinnatus · 02/01/2024 20:44

Too young.

LuluBlakey1 · 02/01/2024 20:44

I think she ran the charity with some questionable ways of handling funds- they may not have bern dishonest but they were very questionable. This Guardian article and the links explain some interesting points. Charisma is not a replacement for rigour and competency.
