Anyone have Insomnia before going back to work tomorrow?to work

I'm still awake again.
Slept beautifully all last week.
Now it looks like no sleep again as I have work tomorrow. Normally get the Sunday night jitters. Then sleep badly all week.
I've taken magnesium, had a bath
Am I doomed to spend all my working life with little sleep?!
Anyone else awake?

I used to be the same. It woukd normally start a few days before I actually returned to work. Do you enjoy your job?

hazandduck · 02/01/2024 01:13

Yep me. To make matters worse DH and the kids are still off tomorrow! I napped all afternoon like a fool! Just trying to read and make myself sleepy…

Any new books for Christmas you could try
to unwind with?

I am awake... Sitting with my mum in a&e. If I was anywhere near a bed I would be fast asleep. 😴

Everyone here isn't in school tomorrow either.
I might have a look at kindle unlimited and see if I can find a new book.
I've just got up as I thought staying in bed will make it worse to the disgust of the animals who were on the sofa!

Have you tried repeating your go to bed routine again.

My other fall asleep method is closing my eyes and when I start to see the swirly colours I concentrate on the darkest spots. It sounds woo but I find it really effective. Because you are focusing on something it stills your brain whirling.

Unescorted · 02/01/2024 01:22

Hopefully.... She has a bed and I have never been so jealous in my life.

SparkleyMud · 02/01/2024 01:25

I can't sleep due to sinus pain and have to be up early with my two young ones. I'm praying for a GP app tomorrow but I'm not hopeful

Rafting2022 · 02/01/2024 01:25

Yep - same here. Slept great all the time I’ve been off and had some lovely lie-ins. Fell asleep for 45 minutes earlier tonight and now reckon I’ll be awake till at least 4am and wake knackered to the 6.30 alarm.

It’s shit isn’t it.

Unescorted · 02/01/2024 01:26

And another fall asleep method is playing a really dull podcast on a subject that I can keep half an ear on. Just at the volume that is loud enough but not too loud. Again it works by giving you something to concentrate on so you can ignore the mind chuntering

Sparkly that sounds rubbish. Have you got any menthol/ peppermint essence in the cupboard. If so boil the kettle and put the water and pepper mint in a bowl. Hold your head over it and drape a towel over your head and bowl. Inhale and snotty dribble.

Hey OP, your animals are GORGEOUS!!!

I get insomnia before back to work too. I take a Kirkland sleep aid. They are antihistamines and you can buy them from the Kirkland website. They work, it’s amazing. They truly let you drift to sleep. Recommended.

CavalierApproach · 02/01/2024 01:37

Me! Wide awake.

I’m not worried about work itself, which I enjoy, I’m worried about having to get up early as I have to fight my natural rhythm so hard to do that.

Stressedgiraffe · 02/01/2024 01:38

I'll take a look at Kirkland.
Usually I sleep 10-3 during the week then get up. Tonight nothing I just lay there from 10-1.
Thanks they are good boys

Yep, I'm awake and wondering when I'll get to sleep. Which is making me.worried I won't get up for work. I am hoping I'll be so tired tomorrow that I'll sleep.

Whattodowithit88 · 02/01/2024 01:55

Have you tried sleeping tablets? They help you drift off.

Or you could try hayfever tablets, they knock me out for the entire night but be careful with those, different brands affect different people, I take one and sleep like a baby and wake up feeling rested, my sister took one and struggled to keep her eyes open for two days! Luckily it was during the holidays when she didn’t have work so it didn’t matter but like I said everyone is different, some people take hayfever tablets and it has no effect at all.

this works for me, definitely because the mind is busy. My go to I s the dark histories podcast by Ben cutmore. The content can be a bit dark, but I don’t listen to the content just his wonderfully soporific voice. So many podcasters fall over themselves to be crazy and energetic but Ben is very soothing. Nice!
also like boring books for bedtime, and mindset change, a very good meditation app. All good as they guys talk normally. I can’t stand the softly whispering ladies!

Enko · 02/01/2024 02:00

I'm awake but half my own fault. Also dhs who never let's me sleep on but Monday morning decided to so I slept to 11 am so I'm just not tired. Got to be up at 6.30 too

NewYearGnome · 02/01/2024 02:01

Oh yes! Wide awake here, ruddy Ddog is snoring loudly😠
I’m not in work in the morning, but I’m up at 3-45am to take DP to his lorry depot.
Had a lovely hour and half sleep on sofa this afternoon, under a pile of lovely soft throws and my feet in Ddogs fur, but paying the price now as can’t sleep at all🫤

doodlepants · 02/01/2024 02:02

I have a funny tummy so am awake. I think it's all the food over the last few weeks :( DH snoring beautifully.

HalloweenIsDone · 02/01/2024 02:55

I'm awake. Do you think it's better to get up and do something rather than laying in bed hoping to fall asleep? Some people saying laying is still getting rest others say get up and come back to bed later 🤷🏼‍♀️

Daysie · 02/01/2024 03:10

Yes me!

Aphotoaday · 02/01/2024 03:18

Have given up trying to sleep. Now having a cup of tea and listening to the rain. Today will be fun.

Struthless · 02/01/2024 03:24

Yep, same. Slept well during the holiday, right on cue i'm up in the night because of work :( its really shitty at the moment, has been for months, two job interviews this week so fingers crossed something gives soon!
