Anyone else ‘Blitzing’ today.

All in all we’ve had a good Christmas but today I feel ready to blitz the house and get ready for a New Year.

Dd16 is at work and has a party tonight so we’ll be a taxi service, so just finished the last open bottle of Christmas fizz with breakfast as Buck’s Fizz. Most of the Christmas food has been eaten already bar done cheese and chocs.
Planning on both Dry January and No Spend January.

I had lots of lovely presents including lots of books so hopefully by doing dry January I’ll feel more like reading in the evenings.

Today will be changing the beds, taking down the decorations and just generally giving everywhere a clean fresh feel before going back to work/ school on Tuesday.

Its also pouring outside so not conducive to a day out 😬.

Anyone else planning much the same today?

Yes! No waiting for epiphany here. We are back at school/work on Wednesday and I love the feeling of new year with a clean tidy house. Planning to toast 2024 with some alcohol free Kylie wine (surprisingly nice).
Im feeling unreasonably excited about this.

ListenLinda · 31/12/2023 09:21

Yep, about to make a start shortly! DDs bedroom is first on my list, after she opened all her new craft stuff and its scattered everywhere. She will be helping me, she is 6 so knows how to help but definately needs supervision.
then i’m going to strip all the beds, put the christmas tree down and away & hoover top to bottom.

The rest of the house has been done this week so nothing too much needs doing elsewhere.

Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2023 09:21

@MsAnnFrope - Where’s the Kylie wine from please? I’ve only ever tried one AF one and it was rank.

@Nearlyadoctor i get it in tesco or Morrisons. it’s pink and fizzy so not what I’d necessarily normally drink but good for occasions like NYE!
I find AF beer much better than wine and I’m getting better at finding good mocktails!

Dontsparethehorses · 31/12/2023 09:26

This was me yesterday and I highly recommend it ❤️

Mirrorballsocial · 31/12/2023 09:28

Absolutely not! New year is part of Christmas for us.

Marshtit · 31/12/2023 09:28

not really,
planning on a lazy day although i can see mess which i might feel impelled to clean

Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2023 09:29

@MsAnnFrope thanks I’ll look out for it - generally prefer fizz anyway.

We put the decorations away the day before yesterday as we have loads and the kids wanted more room. yesterday we then did :
cleaned the kitchen cupboards the fronts
all the skirting boards
the oven
the microwaves
all the mugs
all the glasses
all the cutlery
the inside of the tumble dryer
the radiators inside and outside
The dogs (plural) beds and all their bedding
deep cleaned all the sofas and chairs cushions off and polished them (leather)
put all the recycling and cardboard out for recycling
deep cleaned all the drains and all the sinks except outside drains (we give them a deep clean once a year)

today
Long dog walk
theatre for panto
Clean outside drain

clean fridge if time 🕰️

love a good clean in the holidays

Brownhairdontcare · 31/12/2023 09:30

We're hosting a get together tonight so I blitzed and de-Christmased yesterday! Would normally take the tree down on NYD but it took up too much living room space 😆so had to disappear a couple of days early!

GymWhale · 31/12/2023 09:32

We're taking the DC to soft play this morning to tire them out in the hope that they'll have a decent nap at lunchtime and we can crack on with getting tidied up. Our eldest isn't back to nursery until next Monday so it'll just be a general tidy up rather than a full scale deep clean but the washing will be done, beds changed, bathroom cleaned and sweep/hoover throughout.

Whaleandsnail6 · 31/12/2023 09:32

Yes. All decorations apart from Nativity scene are coming down and I'm having a good clean. We are staying out at friends house tonight so want to come back to a lovely, fresh house tomorrow. For me once new years is done, I just want to get back to normal

maddiemookins16mum · 31/12/2023 09:39

We blitzed our bedroom yesterday, filled 2 bags of clothes to go to the clothing bank.
Today is some slow cooker batch cooking and a general tidy through, take the tree down.
We’re actually at a party tonight so know tomorrow will be a chill day.

Iwishiwasasilentnight · 31/12/2023 09:40

No but I want to. Ideally I would keep the tree up and send DH and kids out so I can tidy (they never do it to my standard) and clean.

grafittiartist · 31/12/2023 09:45

Not at all.
I can't imagine NYE without the decorations up. It's to be celebrated.
Blitz later next week.

WinchSparkle80 · 31/12/2023 09:46

Upstairs to do today - helping kids find homes for new stuff.
Dust and hoover and change beds.
Downstairs de- Christmassed yesterday but kitchen be given a clean after made roast beef for lunch.

Movie this afternoon, cheese n biscuits for
tea.

Ready to chill tmrw and go for a walk, before back to work Tuesday.

muchalover · 31/12/2023 09:49

I've been working anyway so Christmas decorations will stay another week so today I am going to clean upstairs and do some of the parquet flooring.

Unihorn · 31/12/2023 09:50

Schools don't go back til the 8th in Wales so no desire to de-Christmas yet thankfully!

KinS24 · 31/12/2023 09:52

Already done it. On the 28th!

Marshtit · 31/12/2023 09:52

i dont like taking the decorations down until 12th night, is that the 6th?

EddieHoweBlackandWhiteArmy · 31/12/2023 09:53

Yes I did it at 7am this morning
I hate having decorations up for new year. We always have people at ours on NYE so the tree and bunting and lights all have to come down. Makes the tidying up tomorrow easier!

Malarandras · 31/12/2023 09:55

Nope, the 2nd is still a holiday here and not back to school and work until the 8th. So today I am going to the gym for a final workout of the year, playing the PS5, watching Oppenheimer and eating lots. Happy days!

Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2023 10:02

@Rocksonabeach - we did panto yesterday followed by cheese and cracker/ buffet tea.

I would have left the decorations up longer ( and usually do) but as the schools go back here on the 2nd and I’ve up my hours back to full time from then I want to be organised.

Sleepychicken · 31/12/2023 10:03

Yep same here, downstairs already done. Bacon sandwiches on the go while I wait for teens to surface then I’ll start upstairs. Out for a meal and cinema tonight, then making a roast tomorrow, will finish the booze, cheese and chocolates in a nice clean house ready for work on the 2nd. 😊

MistletoeandJd · 31/12/2023 10:04

So we had christmas, covid, followed by a birthday and another birthday next week! so absolutely today is blitz day! Although cleaning and tidying during the festivities it never feels clean and fresh because with 5 kids there's lots of prezzies around, packaging stacked for recycling rubbish for dump runs it just feels urghh 🤯 would love to be able to enjoy this evening with a fresh house !
