Anyone else ‘Blitzing’ today.

Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2023 09:14

All in all we’ve had a good Christmas but today I feel ready to blitz the house and get ready for a New Year.

Dd16 is at work and has a party tonight so we’ll be a taxi service, so just finished the last open bottle of Christmas fizz with breakfast as Buck’s Fizz. Most of the Christmas food has been eaten already bar done cheese and chocs.
Planning on both Dry January and No Spend January.

I had lots of lovely presents including lots of books so hopefully by doing dry January I’ll feel more like reading in the evenings.

Today will be changing the beds, taking down the decorations and just generally giving everywhere a clean fresh feel before going back to work/ school on Tuesday.

Its also pouring outside so not conducive to a day out 😬.

Anyone else planning much the same today?

Yes, it's the same for us here!

DP said this last night, we need to go into the New Year with a clean, clear house which will support a clear headspace (hopefully), lol!

Happy New Year everyone

LovelaceBiggWither · 31/12/2023 10:05

We're blitzing DH's workshop, storage cupboards and office. I'm having lots of fun, him not so much but the stuff is being sorted, being put in storage containers and being put where he can find it. I've waited for years for him to agree to this but he finally hit peak chaos and it's happening!

mynameiscalypso · 31/12/2023 10:06

I took down all the decorations yesterday and we're going to take the tree to the recycling today. Then I'll have a bit of a tidy up so it looks nice and fresh. We got some new bedding for Christmas so I may change the beds.

garlictwist · 31/12/2023 10:06

We're having a NYE party so no point cleaning today, that will be tomorrow's fun job!

Snackpocket · 31/12/2023 10:10

Probably should but seems unlikely! I‘m not taking the decorations down until tomorrow and will do a bit of general tidying and maybe clean the bathroom but that’s it. I’m planning to enjoy my last 2 days off work before normality resumes.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 31/12/2023 10:12

We’re taking all the Christmas stuff down today and having a big clean up. I don’t normally do it till 12th Night but we’re away next weekend so I want to get it done.

Our house is on the market and we’ve got a viewing booked on Tuesday so it’s got to be tidy for that anyway. We don’t do anything for new year so that’s not a consideration.

Flaskfan · 31/12/2023 10:13

Supposed to be having people (and kids) round here tonight, although dh took to his bed, ill, yesterday. I did a fairly big clean yesterday, but my house appears to need a blitz every day.

Princessbananahamock · 31/12/2023 10:14

Got some recycling to take out. However, I will obviously have to drink the contents first.
Cleaning or blitzing seems like a 2024 problem to be honest.

menopausalmare · 31/12/2023 10:15

Yep, me too. We try not to go over the top at Christmas with spending or food but you reach a point where you're fed up of the clutter. So today, the decs are coming down and a deep clean will begin, including washing and hoovering the 🚗.

thehistorymum · 31/12/2023 10:15

I want to blitz but am 29 weeks along so will get as far as I can before my back says no!

I’m off until the 8th tho so I’ve got time to do a little bit at a time. Husband loves Christmas so decs are staying a few days more!

sickbucket67 · 31/12/2023 10:16

I’m cleaning and taking down more cluttering decorations so I can dust better, but I like the tree to stay up over new years

Purplerain0505 · 31/12/2023 10:16

I’ll stick the hoover round and have a little tidy but that’s it. I’m having a slow morning and then we’re off to the pub for the afternoon! Tree is still up as it always is for NYE. It helps that we’re not back to school/work until later in the week.

handskneesandbumpsadaisy · 31/12/2023 10:18

I like the lights and decorations to stay up for NYE. It's a bit sad that my DCs are back to school/college on the second as I tend to like a gentle de-Christmas process, but will get everything done a few days earlier now.

MeinKraft · 31/12/2023 10:22

We aren't back until Thursday so I'll let the tree stay up until the 2nd. I'm itching to take it down tbh and I hate NYE but should let the children enjoy it really.

Rowgtfc72 · 31/12/2023 10:23

Just the tree to take down today then a quick clean and tidy.
Only got Christmas Day off work so can't really face the house being a tip for another working week.
Actually sorting the decorations out this year. A local charity are asking for unwanted decorations and cards. It would be nice next Christmas to just put the decorations up and not have to dig through them.
Also dumping the bottom third of the tree we've not used since we got the puppy but I've kept ' just in case'. Well never use it.

Mojodojocasahaus · 31/12/2023 10:25

Not back at school till the 8th so no rush here. Going to take down some of the decs to accommodate DH birthday cards. Full put away and bottoming on Tuesday I think

Baneofmyexistence · 31/12/2023 10:42

Yes! We took the tree and decorations down yesterday and cleaning bedrooms etc today! I feel bad as it’s the first ok weather day here in a long time but everywhere needs a good clean and sort. Definitely doing upstairs at least today!

Dibbydoos · 31/12/2023 10:48

@Nearlyadoctor we were in Thailand from end Nov until a few days before Christmas so I didn't even put up a tree - I have a plant I bought and put on my stairs window with battery operated lights on it, lol!

I am blitzing today though to get the lounge ready for NYD when we're having a turkey dinner as we didn't have one on Christmas Day as my mum won't come to our house - we have dogs - so I took her to a restaurant for a meal 🙄.

I started it yesterday so it'll be done in a few hours - i have 1/5 of a wall to paint too as I ran out of paint.

I have a cold so deciding if I'm venturing out tonight - Id prefer to stay in cisI dont like spreading germs about - my sisters local social club has a fun disco which is always a laugh, but it's a 50mins drive away...

Anyways wishing you and who read this a HNY!!

WhateverMate · 31/12/2023 10:49

I can't imagine NYE without the lights and decorations.

Ours will come down tomorrow. DH will cook a nice roast dinner while I get on with the blitzing.

happypillsareworking · 31/12/2023 10:51

Yes but we've a party tonight so it will be an absolute mess again but can't face people coming in to a messy house 🤦🏼‍♀️

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 31/12/2023 10:54

Good God no.

ChristmasEvemaddness · 31/12/2023 11:05

@Rocksonabeach how do you Depp clean drain

NeedWineNow · 31/12/2023 11:15

No, we're still on Xmas/New Year mode here which means slumping on the sofa until we need to get ready to go out this evening. May do a few bits tomorrow but due to plans we have earmarked Wednesday to take down decorations, put everything back in the loft and then we'll clean properly on Thursday, change bed etc. Helps being retired and not having to fit it all in around going back to work.

Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2023 11:15

@Dibbydoos hope you feel better soon . Happy New Year 🥳

The tree will stay up until
next weekend, but I blitzed the bedrooms yesterday. Have ordered samples of fabric for new blinds for upstairs too.
DD’s bedroom blitz generated 4 loads of washing, so today I need to sort/iron/make her put it away.
Will go up to the attic in a bit. There’s loads of stuff up there that needs to go, might just shove in a box and put on FB Marketplace.
