Anyone else ‘Blitzing’ today.

Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2023 09:14

All in all we’ve had a good Christmas but today I feel ready to blitz the house and get ready for a New Year.

Dd16 is at work and has a party tonight so we’ll be a taxi service, so just finished the last open bottle of Christmas fizz with breakfast as Buck’s Fizz. Most of the Christmas food has been eaten already bar done cheese and chocs.
Planning on both Dry January and No Spend January.

I had lots of lovely presents including lots of books so hopefully by doing dry January I’ll feel more like reading in the evenings.

Today will be changing the beds, taking down the decorations and just generally giving everywhere a clean fresh feel before going back to work/ school on Tuesday.

Its also pouring outside so not conducive to a day out 😬.

Anyone else planning much the same today?

Absolutely not. I'm going to have a nice day with the family, not fussing around tidying and cleaning.

usernother · 31/12/2023 11:56

No. We still have Xmas presents lying around, currently getting ready for tonight, still eating left over very unhealthy food from Christmas Day.

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 31/12/2023 12:09

Yup cleaning today. Starting at top working my way down. Have done upstairs bathroom, currently doing Dd bedroom. Desperate for a decent audio book to listen to. Something super funny but not sweary as kids in ear shot.

Whattheduck · 31/12/2023 12:18

Done a wash and hoovered downstairs
Going to take decorations down on Tuesday and have a good clean
Going to eat last of the cheese and pates tonight
Have lots of chocolate and biscuits left over will take some in to work

Arata · 31/12/2023 12:28

We did it 29th & 30th

All cupboards and drawers decluttered and relined with new liners
Fridges and freezer cleaned
All furniture polished and all mirrors done
Christmas decks away in plastic boxes and old ones thrown out
Wardrobes decluttered
Skirting boards and paintwork washed, windows washed and curtains changed in all rooms
All beds changed
Rugs cleaned and floors done
Dog beds changed and disinfected
Dogs bathed
Tip run done with 39 bags of shite
Clothes taken to the clothing bank

It’s a long dog walk for us this afternoon then out for dinner this evening, home, a couple of glasses of something then bed.

mrskimsneakattack · 31/12/2023 12:33

I had planned to....but its blowing a hooly out and I'm snug in bed with a book and some chocolate, the house is a tip.

Got to pop out for a couple of hours later this afternoon so hoping DH will have a tidy round while I'm out if he's not napping!

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 31/12/2023 12:36

Yes, but not the whole house. Downstairs is already reasonably clean and very tidy. It's quiet easy to keep on top of down here.
I need to do DDs bedroom today though. Needs hoovering, polishing, bedding changing and (worst of all) sorting through her boxes of random crap so that we can put away her new things. I'm dreading that job, but we have some plastic boxes and black bags and it'll feel much better once it's done.

I should do DS's room too but it is absolutely disgusting, so I don't want to. Mostly because if I do it today, it'll only be disgusting again tomorrow as he lives in it permanently, only coming out to forage for food. I'm waiting until he goes back to school, then I'll sort his room out so it'll be nice for 5 minutes before he gets home.

SerafinasGoose · 31/12/2023 12:38

Trees down yesterday and furniture, mirrors kitchen and oven cleaned. Today fresh bedding.

Love my trees and lights but I personally don't like to see them still up in January.

Justgivemehotchocolate · 31/12/2023 13:09

Not intentionally, I went to make a cup of tea, thought I’d put a quick wash in the machine while I waiting for the kettle to boil and remembered the washing machine needed degunking first, and one tidying thing led to another and 3 hours later I’ve finally got that cup of tea 😄

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 31/12/2023 13:28

The tree and decorations came down on Friday,, DH vacuumed through so the house is reasonably tidy. Tomorrow I will strip the beds, finish getting the laundry done, generally get everything sorted, I’ll also give the kitchen a good clean this week.
We’re retired so thankfully no return to work 👏

Jasmine876 · 31/12/2023 13:45

I worked nightshift right through Xmas and feel so disorganised still. I’ve had a long lie today and plan on doing some housework and getting the tree down before we have a mini party in the house with kids tonight. I love going into the new year with a clean house.

ActuallyChristmas · 31/12/2023 13:52

No, re decorations as it would be super weird to not have them still up at New Year.

DC 18 has transport back from a party booked.

My parents and the MIL used to visit. Only the MIL left now and she’s no longer travelling so we plan to visit her tomorrow.

Sunday is always cleaning day here. Just done that. Weather might have improved enough for afternoon walk.

Mirrorballsocial · 31/12/2023 09:28

Absolutely not! New year is part of Christmas for us.

Same!

We don't put the tree up until weekend before Xmas Day though and keep it up til 12th Night (can't remember how to spell Twelfth - is that right?)

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 31/12/2023 13:58

@Rocksonabeach You did all of that in a day??

AnnieMare · 31/12/2023 13:58

Nope! Still enjoying the festivities here. I have smartened the house and cleaned the bathroom for guests arriving though.

NYE celebrations tonight, lazy day, fire on and a cooked breakfast tomorrow.

SingingSands · 31/12/2023 14:45

We did a tip run today! Felt great having a wee clear out.

DilemmaDelilah · 31/12/2023 16:13

No, not blitzing. But we have cleared out our drawers of plastic storage boxes. Thrown away a lot, sorted some out for my daughter, and ensured everything we have left has a lid to match!
We have gradually been sorting out and cleaning cupboards for the last few weeks. Still lots to go!

HoldMeCloserTonyDancer · 31/12/2023 16:22

grafittiartist · 31/12/2023 09:45

Not at all.
I can't imagine NYE without the decorations up. It's to be celebrated.
Blitz later next week.

Agree. Need the tree up for NYE. I’ll do all the clearing up and tidying Tuesday x

Aha @Justgivemehotchocolate you clean the same way I do! Lol HNY! 🍾

EffortlessDelegation · 31/12/2023 16:53

I’ll be doing it tomorrow, ready for going back to work on Tues. Done a little bit today, just vacuuming and washing. Tomorrow is a more serious tidy up, beds changed etc.

EffortlessDelegation · 31/12/2023 16:54

Decorations all stay up till 12th Night though

Greenshake · 31/12/2023 17:04

Bit of a clean up and it feels lovely! Bed stripped and changed, tree and decorations down, washing machine on and bag of stuff for charity shop ready to go.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 31/12/2023 17:19

I also had a hefty blitz Boxing Day morning, clearing out a cupboard, sorting out my yarn stash and rearranging craft materials. Very therapeutic especially as I put a black bag of surplus yarn on the local Facebook and it went in 3 minutes!

Nineteendays · 31/12/2023 17:30

Same here, have to go into the new year with the house sorted. Decorations came down on Friday, cleaned the house yesterday and have changed all bedding today and caught up on washing. Off to a NYE party tonight and planning on doing nothing whatsoever tomorrow but chilling with the kids (although will have to walk dog).

Nearlyadoctor · 31/12/2023 18:37

Busy day but all done - DS came around and fitted our new shower screen which was a bonus.
Feels so much better with everything sorted. DH has just taken Dd to her friends to eat before her party so we’ll pick her up about 1am.
Having a curry I made earlier shortly, then a relaxing bath. Well then start the box set House of the Dragon so a chilled evening.
